That's how an ellipse is defined, that is the total distance of the perimeter from the two 'centers' (foci) is constant. In a circle, you only have 1 center. (A circle is just an ellipse where the foci are at the same spot).

Not hard to calculate where a perfect sphere will go when it bounces off the wall of a perfect circle... it always goes to the same spot.

In this case it isn't a circle but a ellipsis, which means that any ball coming from one of its focus (the white mark) will bounce and reach to the other (the hole itself). Thus if the ball doesn't come from that white dot it probably won't make it to the hole as we see at the end of the video. Also if it were a perfect circle, both of the focus would be at the same place and you would have to shoot the ball from the hole (don't ask me how).

With an ellipse, the ball always find the hole bouncing one or no times which is very important as you want to prevent energy losses from the collisions that can make the ball stop.

For those of you not in the know, let me explain how it works. The secret is that the pool table is not a circle; it’s an ellipse (basically an oval). Ellipses have two foci with the unique property that the distance between them is the same as the sum of the distances between them and any singular point on the ellipse. What this guy did is he positioned the hole at one focus, and marked the location of the other with the little white dot.

This works because of the properties of ellipses. They are defined by choosing two points, called the foci, and drawing the outer edge so that the sum of the distances from any point on the outer edge to the two foci is constant.
