The Tower is a symbol of corruption, filled with haughty nobles that sneer down on the world below - but the card shows this tower as it's being struck by lightning, toppling it, every brick and stone. It's a symbol of upheaval of evil and foolishness to make way for goodness and wisdom. It's noteworthy that this card comes after Death, and as such is on the spiritual side of things (all the cards before Death are in the realm of the physical, and all the cards after have to do with spirituality. The Emperor and The Chariot are before Death, and Temperance and The Devil come after.) The way I learned the Fool's Journey was through aeclectic.net, and Thirteen's description of The Tower is that it was built by The Fool when he was similarly haughty - in Thirteen's words: "In fact, The Fool, himself, helped build this Tower back when the most important thing to him was making his mark on the world and proving himself better than other men." But that was a lie at best - making one's mark on the world wouldn't come through some physical structure that would be lost to time, it would come through his own heart and his own deeds or not at all (note the lyric "know your deeds write better tales"). The Tower represents above all the lies in one's life, and only once the terrible structure is torn from the foundations can honesty and truth be built in its place.

@@attempt58 I bought a Tarot set with a small booklet of how to read them and fortunes. Not sure if this is the most exact meaning but it's something along the lines of: The Tower - Represents the Soul facing destruction. Normal Position: Change in a complete and sudden manner, abandonment of past relationships, unexpected events, termination, adversity, downfall, disruption, loss of stability, loss of money, loss of love and affection, terrible change, annoyance. Reverse Position: Continued oppression, living in a rut, entrapped in an unhappy situation. Tarot's pretty fun if you can find a set. Pretty spooky sometimes though... >.>
