Man. I remember watching ASC every Sunday morning. Great stuff. I loved Steve Evans and Brock Yates. Thank you for this.

My friends older brother took us to this race. He wanted to see the 200 mph corvette. I was 15 and no idea what I was in for. Fell in love with IMSA, but it’s not the same. The variety of manufacturers, engine displacements and drivers the likes to never be seen again.

It took a couple of days to get rid of the buzzing in my ears from the Mazda’s. I think there were more Mazda’s engines than Porsche that race.

These were the glory days of IMSA. Glad I caught every race they held at Road America. Saw yesterday's race at RA and they only had 8 prototypes and 35 cars overall. Not bad but not like the old days.

Now consider that the modern "prototypes" are equivalent to LMP2 or Camel Lights, not full-blown GTP! That's why IMSA went downhill.

Exactly! The original gtp cars where amazing! Yes they also raced in other prototype classes, especially the Porsches raced all over Europe but they always did with their prototypes since the 904. The 908 and 917 basically raced in every prototype class you could imagine back then. And the cars came in so many variants, open-closed, NA-turbo, shorttail-longtail, you name. But still those times where much better and I watch the old races over and over again. Same with formula 1 for me. I don’t watch any races after the 10 cylinder engine and Michael Schumacher left, but I like the early years much more. 60s-90s where the real deal in F1 with the last hurray in the early 2000s.

Oh but the most amazing interesting thing: no BOP! There’s nothing worse than the stupid BOP stuff that ruins every interesting car developments, because yo7 can build a bad car and just get away with less weight than the others..

The Ford Probe GTP and the Corvette GTP were usually very fast but we used to place bets which one would grenade its engine first.
