This song still gets to me at the end... every time. I lost my job just two days before I was supposed to see them perform in Charlotte. It wasn't just a job. I devoted my life to this place. This wasn't the first time, or fiftieth time I had fallen down. Recession, cancer, divorce, etc. Even TMR turned me down for years. Needless to say I was not in the best state of mind. But I drove five hours to the show anyway. Never saw them perform before. Any of these guys. When they did this one I was OK until the end. I got pretty emotional. Crying in the crowd like a punk. After the song, Brendan spoke about how you never know how these songs will affect people. You just write them and hope people can enjoy them. Then he turned to me and said "Thanks for staying alive." It was a shock and kind of embarrassing, but I am grateful. I think about that moment often. When I'm at the end of the rope, it reminds me of my mom, who pulls me back into the light. Brendan's song and kind words remind me I can't give up on her or the people who count on me. Even when I don't think much of myself. Thank you guys for everything.

I love the mantra "I'm here right now, I'm not dead yet" at the end of the song. It's perfect how it grows in intensity, the song starts sad but then ends full of hope. It's like shouting at the world: "I'M NOT DEAD YET!". Beautiful song :)

@@veravile1232 basically. Was a private residence/collection until it opened to the public in 1960 or something. Alex Jordan was the original owner/collector. Been there a couple times. Really quirky collections. Original house was designed by frank Lloyd wright, so features interesting architecture as well.

I saw Brendan B live in ATL at a small club years ago. He's a great solo artist too. He was actually signed to a record label before Jack White way back in 90s but the record didn't do well on mainstream charts think he got dropped then made comeback years later with Jack's help. Both being from same town very interesting story.

Would really like to see him perform solo, but I live in Europe so maybe when he releases his solo album (which he mentioned in an interview once) he will do a world wide tour. Would be amazing. But still, I saw the Raconteurs in Warsaw back in June. Couldn't hold the back the tears. Really, a dream came true that day. Sorry for my rant, I could talk about it for hours!

He's not as exciting or "interesting" as Jack White, but he's a better song writer. Straight up. I love some of Jack's solo stuff too, but it's very same-y. Brendan understands song structure. And his lyrics are just more..... I don't know......grown up? Less vague? More relatable?
