“I don’t shine if you don’t shine” that lyric came to me this week as I was struggling with my upcoming graduation with a masters. My daughter who loved The Killers passed away a year and a half ago at 26. I don’t want all this attention because she didn’t get much fanfare for her pandemic graduation. But I feel like I got her permission with this song. Love you Lin - I’ll shine so you can shine

+mrsuns10 I guess it's up to interpretation. When you listen to the lyrics "You say you want to move on, you say I'm falling behind" and "I got the green light, I got a little fight, I'm gonna turn this thing around", it sounds very much like coming to terms that a relationship is breaking. Maybe it's not necessarily a breakup song, but it could be interpreted as a post fight song. I dunno. It's just gorgeous.
@riaunderwater9 жыл бұрын
+ellzedd41 I can definitely see that point of view! Like I said, I totally see it both ways. I can see how it is the end of the road- a couple that had their ups and downs and despite being over, he's reminiscing and giving ode to the relationship. Maybe he's replaying the high points of the relationship, when it ended and what he should have said/done in that moment. However, what you said is very strong. Like I said, I can see it being up to interpretation. That's the beautiful thing about Brandon Flower's songwriting- it makes you feel things you didn't know were capable of being felt by using a complexly beautiful set of words.

Today is May 20, 2023 and while everyday tasks are much, much harder to do, I'm still here on this ride with you beautiful people and listening to some good music as I type this. Thank you for all of the encouraging words. You are the best of humanity. Much love! Update 7/26/2024 "Yea, they come to snuff the rooster..." Beautiful souls, I just wanted to say thank you for the love. That which you give, you receive. I am still here, and celebrated 2 years post-diagnosis in June. The disease has progressed slower than they thought it may. God is great, people! Every one of you who has taken a moment of your day to send well wishes, you have no idea how much that means. That's true beauty. You guys are the best, your souls are beautiful. Never, ever let anyone dim your shine. Ever! If I never write here again, know that I love you all. We're all connected. The Killers are so underrated. The music sounds way better than most popular music these days, the lyrics have way deeper meaning than most popular music these days and they generally have way better music than the stuff these days. I thank my parents for listening to them and giving me so much nostalgia with this band and overall introducing me to some of the best music.

I'm a Rose fan and I was already a killer fan even before she covered it, but tbh I haven't listened to their songs in quite a while. So, I was pleasantly surprised when she covered it and took me instantly back to my school days. And thanks to Rose I'm re-listening their songs, lots of attachment and memories, happy ones that is. I'm rediscovering them all over again.

I can’t remember the first time I heard this song or this album, but it pulls me back to the summertime so easily. It makes it all seem so close, but at the same time so far and unreachable. You never returned that call feels so heartbroken and nostalgic. I love this song so much. I can’t describe what a gift it is to be able to listen to it. Best song in the whole world. I’m leaving this comment in part so I can come back to it in the future and continue to experience the gift this song has.

It was 2017, I was a 22 year old university student. My girlfriend decided to breakup with me cause she couldn't stand the long distance relationship anymore and she thought I had no motivation to graduate, leave the city and move to the city where she's at. This song resonates with me a lot because she didn't know what's in my mind, that I wanted to move out of my 'two-star town' as soon as possible, I really wish she could read my mind. I really want to feel the love, the fire and wish she could open the door for me, again. It has been 3 years, and thankfully I am happy with where I am now. I moved on and fell in love with a woman who wants to know what is actually inside my mind. I do wish my ex-girlfriend happiness, because without her I won't be where I am now. I don't shine, if she doesn't shine. That's my story, thank you the killers, especially Brandon, for this amazing song.

On the corner of main street Just tryin' to keep it in line You say you wanna move on, and You say I'm falling behind Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind? I never really gave up on Breakin' out of this two-star town I got the green light I got a little fight I'm gonna turn this thing around Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind? The good old days, the honest man The restless heart, the Promised Land A subtle kiss that no one sees A broken wrist and a big trapeze Oh well, I don't mind, you don't mind Cause I don't shine if you don't shine Before you go, can you read my mind? It's funny how you just break down Waiting on some sign I pull up to the front of your driveway With magic soaking my spine Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind? The teenage queen, the loaded gun The drop dead dream, the Chosen One A southern drawl, the world unseen A city wall and a trampoline Oh well, I don't mind, you don't mind 'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine Before you jump Tell me what you find When you read my mind Slipping in my faith until I fall He never returned that call Woman, open the door, don't let it sting I wanna breathe that fire again She said, I don't mind, you don't mind Cause I don't shine if you don't shine Put your back on me Put your back on me Put your back on me The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun When you read my mind
