Great video, been waiting on a good one comparing the two. I am new to GMRS and radios. For 2 weeks i have been racking my brain between these. After watching this, I believe i will be purchasing the UV-5G Plus. Really just looking for a good truck radio for emergencies as I spend alot of time fishing, hiking, and camping out in the Daniel Boone National Forest here in Kentucky without cell service. We have a repeater covering approximately 75 miles here so hopefully this connects to it no problem.

Thanks again for a very thorough and fair comparison and review. I am amazed at the great functionality of these little radios. Personally, I have no use for them - I'm not well-versed in this particular technology, and I doubt any of it is allowed in Europe - but they're certainly little marvels, that's for sure. And somehow it's sad that they'll never be repaired if anything goes wrong.

What a well done video... kudos! You helped some of my decision make a ton. I am.curious that you called aircraft bands in the review comments, but am I right that the 5G PLUS (the bigger radio) is not spaced to Rx the police or aircraft bands? Their website material does not mention it without going into an HT ham model. I thought I would ask a pro!

I picked up 2 UV-5G Pros and they both only get GMRS, FRS, and NOAA. I don’t get Ham on them at all. Didn’t think they could.

Are you sure the UV-5G Plus can receive Airband?

What about actual spectral purity? Some of the earlier modes had 3rd harmonic issues. I have the smaller unit and the battery won’t last very long on high power.
