What are the 8 preset repeater channels on my uv 5g pro. After I get to channel 22 the next channels are reptr 1-8? I put both of my radios on those channels and nothing came through either radio while trying to talk with the other radio close by so I’m assuming they aren’t actual channels you can talk on.? Sorry I’m new to this and just recently got my GMRS license

@nickkline2584 That's too much to answer in a comment. I will get you a good link to a video that will explain repeaters and how they work. First, if you have your gmrs license, register with MyGMRS.com and search for repeaters in your area. Then I have two videos that will kind of start you out with some basic knowledge. The 1st will be Beginners Guide to Chirp, and the 2nd will be an introduction to MyGMRS.com
Let me ask you something? How are the voice prompts on this radio? Thanks for any input you can provide.

@shaunteckno I don't have the radio in front if me but I will try to remember. Press MENU, press up arrow or down arrow to the VOICE option. Press MENU again to make a selection. Use the up and down arrows to scroll through English, Chinese, or Off. Press MENU again to store that selection. Press END or red button to leave MENU. I’ve had a UV5G plus for a few days now and just really don’t like the screen. Looking at replacing with another gmrs radio, either the 5g pro, 5R GMRS version, gmrs uv9r, or tidradio h8. Kinda want something a little tuffer and no color screen. Any suggestions??
@FirstUnitedTactical4 ай бұрын
If you want to stay budget friendly, go with a Tidradio H3 (for a small handheld) or the H8 (for a Baofeng 5g Plus size). I've never had good luck with the 5g Plus. If you want to spend a little more money, go with a Wouxun KG-935g Plus for about $149 at BuyTwoWayRadios, use this link to get to the site: www.buytwowayradios.com/?cmid=amsreGRvTmttM0k9&afid=WFdCTkoxNUhOVkk9&ats=OFk2YXZIcjQ0NkU9 But, they have a lot of good radios there, and also BetterSafeRadio.com which with this link: bettersaferadio.com/pro/first/ Coupon code: First7 Wouxun is an excellent radio, but sometimes hard to see the screen in direct sunlight. Tidradio H3 and H8 are absolute winners in my book when it comes to a budget though.

@ztc1689 Well, there's not any advantage from the H3 to H8. Larger battery I believe, but the 3 does 10x more than the 8.... I just did this video for this radio to hit the market tomorrow. Would you recommend this over the 5g plus?
@FirstUnitedTactical3 күн бұрын
@nickkline2584 My 5g Plus doesn't work as well as my 5g Pro. Neither of my 2 will transmit the normal 5 mile testing I do. This 5g Pro does it with ease. In fact, I tell viewers all the time that if they o ly have 1 radio, and it's a 5g Plus, to get another to see for themselves. That's my opinion. I have maybe 10 field tests, and I bring the 5g Plus everytime just to confirm, and not one time has it made 5 miles with the stock antenna. All other radios make it with ease. That's just my 2 cents and my 2 radios.
@FirstUnitedTactical3 күн бұрын
@nickkline2584 But honestly, If you are getting a beginner radio, I would look at the Tidradio H3. It's HAM and GMRS, and lots more features that both of the Baofeng's.
@nickkline25842 күн бұрын
@@FirstUnitedTactical I was checking out the TIDRADIO it seems a little more complicated with all the features. I’m looking for a bare bones GMRS radio. With simple features to operate without any extras. My main use will be talking with family in my local area and while on trips. Would the 5g pro work for that in your opinion. Just looking at the two screens seems like the H3 has a lot more going on than the 5G pro
@FirstUnitedTactical2 күн бұрын
@nickkline2584 The only screen difference is 1- the TIDradio is much easier to see in daylight, and 2- the Tidradio shows the channel you are on, and also that frequency. Don't let that scare you. The 5g Pro is definately more vare bones tho compared to the H3. Plus, the h3 can be programmed via Bluetooth and your phone. It's a little more complicated to program any baofeng without a computer. The Bluetooth comes in very handy if you are traveling. The software app you download to your phone uses the phones GPS to fund the closest repeaters near you, and it's a simple transfer to the radio. This is important just in case your phone dies and the radio is the only communication. The H3 will listen to CB, and transmit on GMRS and HAM. HAM is obviously the larger network where you can "always" reach someone if you need help. But, both are less than $40, so get a 5G Pro and play with it for a few months. Trust me, once you buy 1, you will end up with 50 different radios! It's an addiction, but fun addiction! Get whatever you feel comfortable with at first, then grow as your knowledge and understanding increases. My first radio was a Baofeng UV5R, which is basically the same as the 5G Pro. I loved it and didn't upgrade for months, now it collects dust....

How does this compare to the UV-17R Plus?
@FirstUnitedTactical5 ай бұрын
All of the Baofengs (except my 5RH) will compare very similar on transmit and receive. This video is a GRMS only radio, and the 17R Pro is a Dual Band (UHF/VHF), but I'm sure can also be unlocked to run GMRS. The 17R Pro has GPS (with other Baofeng users), which is pretty cool. The 5G Pro is a simple, very compact radio, that performs very well. It really depends on what your needs are. I've had a BTECH GMRS Pro with GPS, but it doesn't matter unless all of you have have it and are all out hiking or camping seperate from each other. If you don't do things like that, GPS doesn't matter. The size of the 17R Pro is larger though. To give you a quick summary, the 17R is a HAM radio and this 5G Pro is a GMRS radio. Both will receive a large number of frequencies and talk very well. But, the 17R is able to transmit on 2m/70cm bands, IF you have a HAM license....

@CrenshawDawg04 This is now an additional reply.... sorry! The main thing you want to look for in the H3 is getting the 771 antenna and not the Airband antenna. The 771 is a 130/440 antenna and it rocks for long distance talking. Plus, the H3 is HAM and GMRS. The 5g Pro is only gmrs. In an emergency, you can actually call out for help on Ham bands, and you don't get that option on the Baofeng 5g Pro. Sorry for all the replies. Take a look at some of my other testing videos, especially the on specifically for the H3.

@FirstUnitedTactical5 ай бұрын
You are correct. I have 4 H3's which 2 of them are faulty from the beginning shipments. My other two rock... Most of my antenna test videos from past are used with an H3. You have more options with an H3, but there are some people that absolutely dispise Tidradio, and the 5G Pro is their alternative. For a true emergency situation, the H3 will get you more communication.

@FirstUnitedTactical5 ай бұрын
@jdock32778 The bad are all done with. No more have been shipped out that I've heard. They have also had 4 or 5 updates since then, which fix most issues. 1 of mine wouldn't hold a charge, and the 2nd would not allow firmware updates, and it would not transmit over 3w. If you purchase bow, you are getting a solid radio. There's coupons codes in my descriptions on videos if you want to save 10%.

No thanks! One thing about most, if not all Chinese radios is that they have no ext. DC jacks. Can't run them from your vehicle' s battery/alternator. Nor could run them from a back up battery in your home. I have a Duracell 9Ah AGM battery in my bedroom that I can hook up to my Yaesus, my Kenwood and even my old Radio Shack HTX-202. I just have different size barrel adaptor connectors that I can quickly switch out to run any of my radios, except for a couple of Baofengs someone gave me. They don't have external power jacks, so you use their batteries only. Hams care a lot about the ability to run things in an emergency, different world from GMRS but I'm not knocking GMRS. I plan to get a GMRS license because I'm not dumb. And air band does not move me because I have at least nine radios of many different types (including ham transceivers) that get air band.
@FirstUnitedTactical5 ай бұрын
@markr.1984 The extended batteries for the UV5R's are capable of USB charging, and all accessories for the 5 series are compatible as well. No one would ever try to compare a Yaesu or Kenwood to a $34 radio, as I'm sure you were not suggesting that. I talk to HAMs and GMRS guys all the time, and around here, everyone talks on our GMRS repeaters. It's easy to get, cheap on the wallet and even the veteran Extra Class guys know. Also, around here, everyone is friendly and helps each other as much as they can. It's a good solid area for communication and knowledge. No one puts anyone down because we don't know if a cheap Chinese radio is all "that newbie" can afford. Don't forget that most of the GMRS guys coming on board have never even had CB's before, and don't know it actually stands for Constantly Broke. They will learn in their own time, but until then, we all encourage folks to get any radio, and start listening. Obviously get a license if they want to join in... Have a good night.

These newer Baofeng radios have USB-C, meaning that with the $5.00 adapter you just plug it into the cigarette lighter. However most new cars have the USB receptacle. Better, all cell phones have a USB receptacle. There are many ways to charge USB radios.
