Bill turned down the counter. I did a redraw for second runner up and the new winner is Aaron Son. Thanks to all that participated. old64goat8 hours agoWOW....I sure do appreciate that but I already have two frequency counters now, an old FLUKE and a LOADSTAR that was given to me by Don Mangold last year. As much as I appreciate this I would rather it go to someone who does not have a frequency counter. Would it be okay if you gave it to someone else, please don't misunderstand, I sure do appreciate the gift but I feel someone may need it who does not have any. Thanks and I enjoy your videos!

Buddy, I got me one of these some years ago (different sticker, same item) and the shielding IS indeed a problem...it kept coming loose. I replaced the bottom one with 0.60 mm aluminium sheet, which I bent up at the rear, in order to shield the transformer from the 'innards'. Worked well even since. And you're right...OLD64GOAT his channel is worth some time! Parts of his intro-video looks like a hostage-tape ! Gotto love an old boy with attitude ! Paddy

Just wondering about those unpopulated spots for what looks like clamping diodes on the input board. Do you think they left them out because of cost? If we ere going to put some in for ourselves, what kind would you recommend?
@rong31947 жыл бұрын
Took me a few minutes to figure out what was happening at the AC input! Looked funny, what with the red wires carrying both the hot and neutral and the offset rear connectors and the 120/220 switch wiring.
@rong31947 жыл бұрын
Also, I realized that AC connector gives you an "un-fused" connection as well as a fused connection.

Yep, a little confusing at first.

Protecting the bottom of the main PCB is a good use of "fish paper" (wonder where that moniker came from?); Heathkit used to send pieces of that along with test equipment kits where that kind of isolation was required. Just replenished my supply from a eBay seller; it's inexpensive and good insurance against inadvertent contact. Thanks for sharing Buddy and your generosity to our new counter owner! 73 - Dino KL0S

Dino Papas Fish paper was made from fish scales at one point in time, hence fish paper.

The Radio Shop Automotive gasket material from the local auto parts store works well in a pinch. They sell rolls of it.

Spectrum Analyzer Adapter for Oscilloscopes Posted on July 5, 2011 by Rend and You can build a 20-600MHZ Spectrum Monitor by FRED BAUMGARTNER - do you know of a kit to do this?

Glad someone will be happy with the new counter. Got my Victor counter working, now is my frequency generator out or is the counter out? Counter says 14.00094 and frequency generator says 14.00000. It's about the same on all frequencies except 160 and 80 meters which then it says my counter is about the same but below the frequency generator. O well it's close. Thanks for the very informative video and I will be doing the cardboard paper insulator as mine is the same with the metal foil bubbling up. Lyle

Hi. I guess these giveaways are only for folks living in the U.S.?

Would have been better off selling that counter as a kit, the assembly would have been better.

Hi there Alton I have a yaesu FT80C which was handed down to me by my late grandfather. It is not transmitting on any band, the on air light comes on it draws about 2 or 3 amps but the S Meter does not move at all. The RX works great the S meter moves on RX but no TX at all. If I tune another radio next to it to the same frequency I can hear myself on it but it has no amplification. I have been through the PA I have checked all the voltages at the initial drive, pre drivers and final transistors as per the service manual and they all check out ok. I am getting voltage to the pa as the relay clicks when I press the TX button. As this rig has real sentimental value to me I really want to get it going but no one here in Australia wants to touch it, they won’t even book it in for a look can you help me please??? and point me in the right direction

love your videos, but you should be pointing out that cheap chinese crap for what it is. Not using your reputation to advertise for them. Might be a cheap way for someone to get into electronics, but starting out with junk gear like that can also ruin someone's experience when it doesn't function properly. That update rate is redicilous. Please no more junk. More quality repairs with quality equipment like the vtvom you fixed and gave away.
@TheRadioShop7 жыл бұрын
First thanks for the honest opinion. I agree there is a lot of cheap stuff out there. I have even received stuff that I would not even do a video on. Anther is the soldering station from Dr Meter that I gave a really bad review on. But I also must say that if a piece of cheap equipment does what it specifications say, then I have no problem with it. No it is not a lab grade counter. A little slow on update when set to high resolution. But it is as accurate as my Leader that cost quite a bit. We do have to remember there are folks out there that cannot afford expensive stuff. Until Rigol, Siglent, Agilent, Keysight, or one of the higher grade companies give me free stuff to give a way ( which I really drought) then I will look for cheaper stuff that folks can afford.
