Mind blowing scene. I recall NBSR using used QNS&L engines with having a exhaust plume that went a good hundred straight up as the transfer was headed west.

I seem to recall reading that railroads didn't really like the 'roadrailer' system, as it required more work to make up a train using that system, when compared with other container systems. Though, interestingly, as originally designed, the 'roadrailer' system was supposed to have a specially designed cab locomotive (similar to the canadian eco-rail) to pull it. No railroad went with this idea, and just put locomotives on it.

Fires happen often and there is Not much the Crews can do out in the Field. We see the Remnants of these Fires 🔥 all of the time on the Railroad. Thanks! 👍🙏

this is EXACTLY what the carriers wanted... EVERYONE on the head end, NO ONE on the hind end... world war 3 breaking out 782 cars back and the head end knows nothing about it... but if that's what the carriers want then fine... as long as they don't come after the crew members when everything goes sideways... (i was waiting for NS to finger the crew for that east palestine incident... fortunately they did not)

Just an interesting little item. All of the Roadrailer trailers were manufactured by Wabash National in Lafayette, IN.

At 16:00 I can clearly see it clear as day it is smoking and that’s only a sign of it because if it would’ve kept on going, the smoke would eventually turn black and then flames would burst out so we always have to let them know even if the crew is not aware of it that one of their engines is on fire and they should come to an emergency stop
@therailroadtiespiker2 күн бұрын
@@armageddonera1pack639 I had called dispatch to let the crew know and they stopped at Clymers to check it out then dropped the locomotive off in the east yard in Lafayette where they picked up to more locomotives on the point.

article X of the 1982 national agreement... (elimination of the caboose)... this is what the carriers wanted... everyone on the head end and no one on the hind end... with PSR and these now monstrous trains... there should at least be a man in the DPU monitoring for trouble
@stevenbelsky16523 күн бұрын
Im not to familiar with the Dpu system but fo the engineers in the headend engine have a computer screen showing the Dpu engine performance
@therailroadtiespiker3 күн бұрын
@@stevenbelsky1652 they should see it unless it’s not working properly. When I called dispatch he told me the crew had no idea it was hot.
@thetuch73 күн бұрын
There is a screen that shows the DPU loading in throttle or dynamic and the throttle settings but it doesn’t give alarms for failures like running hot, low oil pressure and ground relays. And certainly nothing about a fire.
