You can alleviate your steel issues a bit by doing portugal's colonial focus tree, which lets portugal core both it's colonies and get infrastructure factories and most important steel in them

I usually get so pissed off when it happens, that I usually grab the console command window, allowdiplo, switch side mid war, and kill the Allies for good measure. Ps, I'm Italian, so I guess that changing side mid war is part of my nation's heritage, isn't it? 😂

Portugal is 1 of my favorite trees, its so underrated. It's fun and easy, and the monarchies path is satisfying and you make the Porto Brazilian empire, you get double the satisfaction showing it to a Portuguese person to make them mad they lost brazil

Doing naval rearmament as one of your first focuses is probably the best way to go about this as you'll get free ships for just one civ factory, and you can do it like 3 times until ww2 starts, after which you're locked out of the decision

The trick is to rush the monarchist tree on the right, trigger the revolution in Brazil first, use ur divisions to quickly capitulate ur enemy, give everything to the brazilian monarchists. Then do the focuses to restore monarchy in Portugal while improving worker conditions and u will turn Portugal Monarchic without a civil war everytime. While in the brief war with Brazil research the 1st army focus to remove the unreliable army and after everything do the unite the kingdoms focus. Ez :)

The Portuguese Can get some ridiculous non core manpower bonuses, i think one spirit you can get gives you a 30% bonus once you core the african colonies. That's usually what i go for first and then rush the monarchy path to prevent the civil war.

As a regular Portugal player, you need to rush to get Brazil flipped to monarchism as quickly as possible before they have a chance to build up too many troops. Accept that they will have a civil war. Have your troops positioned in Africa so that they can cross over quickly to snake around and grab the victory points. Don't use the stir monarchist sentiment decisions because that will lower the stability needlessly. Wait until you've secured monarchism in Brazil before flipping to monarchism in Portugal. Easy path to reuniting the two kingdoms follows.

Just a tip next time, the "Stir Monarchist Sentiment in Portugal " decision gives you -1% weekly stab for the whole duration, it's goddamn terrible. You can easily fix monarchist support by just spending PP lowering support for other political factions without permanently tanking your stability.

As someone who's done the monarchist path for Portugal many times, I cringed when Alex didn't rush down the tree to get monarchism in Portugal. He also stirred monarchist sentiment in Portugal which lowers your stability and isn't worth it.

I love Portugal in hoi4 the focus tree is just Great, so I played it really often, especially the Monarchist Route. But I must say that I really cringed the way you played it😅 So first of all, the key to success is to prevent the civil war, so you need to keep your Stability up and rush brasil and the monarchist as fast as possible. You can this if you also do fascist, communist and Democratic raids, they're really helpful. Next thing you gonna do is to Naval invade the Victory points in North brasil. There are three so you invade them with your three cavalry you have. In this way you can beat them in One focus duration. You also said that you had really few pp, thats probably because of the Bad Stability. It's also always a good idea to get the politcal advisors who give You political Power.

I like the tree pretty well. If you want to expand without pissing anyone off too bad, you could always attack China to expand Portugese China. And maybe while you are in the Allies you can attack those South American countries in your focus tree.
