I think pronouncing Caesar with a K is how the Romans said it originally and I don't know why the legion pronounce it like that, obviously we pronounce it differently in English but if you consider the German Kaiser, that's pretty much the same word with a very similar pronunciation and obviously descends from Caesar

And they continued in some use till WW1 where they had then started putting machine guns on them but eventually they were not as useful so were retired
