Did you miss out on the Highland clearances? Local Scottish nobility forced clans to immigrate or starve during a period of land repossession. It's why there's such a stark difference between the land population.

Your troops didn't glitch, they were, for some reason, assigned to a fallback line way up in Yorkist territory that you had set earlier but never deleted, I believe~ You can see a few of their orders led straight to it. In reality, you were always winning the war with your strategy!

Just a note on that top quality rambler fact, the biggest factor in the change of population in Scotland was the Highland Clearances where the nobles and the English would weaken clans and evict people from their lands in the highlands. Most people immigrated to other countries, but because the highlands were no longer a great place to live since you'd probably just get kicked out the lowlands became quite developed. www.britannica.com/event/Highland-Clearances

His highlanders just going Leroy Jenkins and blitzing without orders and ending up forcing a general offensive to save them that cascaded into the complete collapse of the Yorkists all while Alex/King Robert has no idea why everyone is attacking without orders... honestly feels like one of the most historically authentic moments of the game. The course of history changed by the whims of a few gung-ho soldiers.

I can just imagine Hitler in this timeline watching Britain descend into civil war and turning to a map of continental Europe saying "It's free real estate" Also I tried this as the Jacobites and failed miserably but that was because I did the Coup immediately, I can't wait to play as the united Ireland. To clear up 2 things because I guess Alex didn't recognize what was happening. 1. Sometimes when he would attack and his units would just give up instead of de-orging. This is because his units were not reinforcing the ongoing battle. Usually he'd attack a tile being attacked by AI volunteers, his units become the reserves, but don't reinforce the battle. The AI volunteers de-org, and the battle thus ends. Incidentally this is why if he then attacked again immediately it would work, as his units were now in the battle to start with. 2. Sometimes when units fufill a command they'll re-adjust what orders they have. In this case alex told them to attack, and once they finished with that attack and took the tile, they re-adjusted and decided to append themselves to the "fallback" line that alex had drawn from Edinburgh to Glasgow. The thing about fallback lines is that the AI will attack into enemy forces to reach them. (You've probably seen this behavior if you get pushed off a fallback line, your retreating troops re-org and then immediately attack, usually to your dismay). So once his units appended themselves to the fallback line, they decided to attack forwards to reach it. Always remember to delete your fallback lines when you dont need them anymore folks!

On the lowland fact, the reason there are so little people in the highlands is because after the Jacobite rebellion those who opposed the King (mostly in the highlands) were deported throughout the empire.

I managed to unite the British Isles as the Jacobites in 1941 in this mod. It’s actually pretty easy if you exploit the Bavarian volunteer decision and use your navy to capitulate the yorkists

The change in the demographics of scotland (ie less people lived in the highlands) Alex mentioned was as a result of the highland clearances which some argue were and intentional effort to depopulate the areas of scotland that had been most traditionally opposed to british government (such as the Jacobite rebellions). Kind of an ethnic cleansing lite. Anyway nice vid
