Counter point, I had the exact same problem where my wife didn’t like Dave Ramsey’s method but she still worked with me to create a budget that is healthy where we pay off debt and save money every month. So you don’t have to both agree on a financial program but you both should agree on a financial plan.

So true! My wife and I did Dave's class ages ago, and we both like the ideas but we have trouble executing. This is a communication issue. He doesn’t even know what her real problem is. I’m a stan of the baby steps but I know it’s possible to win with the money with slight variations because there are testimonies everywhere. Don’t let The baby steps be the hill you die on if you can come together on what your real goals are. Also, he slipped in there that the income was $20,000...is that projected household (I hope not) but even just for the guy, that will eventually be an income issue. Maybe she doesn’t see the route to get out of debt past the lack of current resources. There’s so much that only having one side of this conversation just can’t get through, but when they start having the conversation and learning about what is really the root of the issue, they can decide if this is where they cut their losses.

When I approached my wife about Dave she told me it was ridiculous and pointless. We were just going to be broke. It was impossible for us. It’s just the way it is. We had about 40k in consumer debt plus the mortgage and no money. I pleaded with her to give it a try. Just do it for me, if it doesn’t work we can go back. She finally broke down. Fast forward only four years. We just bought a house twice the size of our old one(impossible), have no debt besides the mortgage(impossible). Three paid off vehicles and a paid off Harley and we inverted our 40k debt into a 40k of emergency and sinking funds. After about two months she completely changed her tune and today she keeps me in check. It works. There is no question. Our household income increased about 60k as well. It motivates you on all sides. And of course we are in filling those 401s.

Me and my wife are very different people when it comes to money, I am a spender and she is a saver but we are both on the same page when it comes to our financial goals. You need to make sure you are both on the same page with your goals or you will never be able to design a plan to reach them, whether that is the Dave Ramsey plan or a completely different one does not matter if you are not on the same page.

Sounds like she doesn't want to be on a budget. Her excuses are just a smokescreen. And logic is NOT going to influence her behavior. Sorry, but Dave's right, she has a princess mentality and they needs to get counseling. And walking away needs to be an option.

I think this guy needs to think about what he wants in this relationship with regards to finances. She seems to have no desire to do a budget nor does she care and when $hit hits the fan you or she will be calling back to say you’re in $100k in debt and how to get out of it !! 🙄🤷‍♀️
