Honestly would not be a big deal they could afford a BMW even with their debt. Nobody said it has to be 100k BMW. They could get CPO or New Lease and still pay down the debt in their income. I’m not worried about this couple.

I live in the UK and I was introduced to Dave Ramsey by my American work colleague in 2006. It was the best advice I have ever received. Listen to his show daily without fail and follow his teachings.

I have friends who played around with 40k in student debt for 20yrs lol. I have another friend who has student loans from the 80s who is now mid 50s, still paying on it, normal state college and a bachelors degree smh. Im with Dave, they got the muscle, because lawyers and doc's are hard working people so this debt thing is nothing. two years will come and go sooo fast, they will be so glad they got it done and behind them.

Priorities and money cashflow skills matter. Also do people even try to pay cash or try to get scholarships any more, I feel like people are lazy and just accept 100% loans which is dumb.

What Rachel said about *creating* urgency is so important. Just because you don't *feel* the pain doesn't mean you don't have a problem. You need to see early on that something is wrong, regardless of whether it's causing you problems right then or not. It's about having a long-term view.

When I was going to school I took an accounting class, the person teaching the class was a CPA. we became friends and one day we were talking and he told me about a side class he teaches just for doctors and lawyers who have already declared bankruptcy. The class was how to survive it and not do it again. These are people that have cash flow that would embarrass a midsize corporation but don’t know how to manage their money.

It's amazing how you can recognize the ones who are going to make minimum payments, on everything, for the next twenty/thirty years. This guy wants that one and a half million dollar house with a dock on an inlet. His argument will be that he needs somewhere to park the boat he's going to get. Not to mention the cars and trucks he and his wife will be purchasing because they deserve it after all the hard work of school.

The hesitance in the caller's voice... I'm glad Dave listened to him fully though. After his hesitant "yeah", in the past I feel like Dave would usually hang up. But he actually gave this guy a chance to address his other questions about the separate payments. I hope this guy actually listens to them and calls back in two years after paying off the student loans to thank Dave and Rachel for the advice.

I was thinking the same. Not sure why he called if after becoming a lawyer he can´t figure it out how to pay of his debt with such a great income. After watching three videos and reading the baby steps a few years ago, it was clear to me, and I am not a lawyer. Do these people really deserve such an income with such a limited problem solving ability? I admit I am jealous of his income but I would not like to change into a person who can´t fugure out simple math for his income.

Not all lawyers make crazy money. She can probably make 200k a year as a CRNA but the husband will probably make 100-150k a year. Realistically I wouldn’t see their house income going above 400k a year unless they are both high earners in their fields.

I would like to know which portion of their annual income is attributable to which spouse. A CRNA salary seems pretty stable and reliable, but lawyers get fired and laid off all the time. Especially from private law firms that are dependent of constant client business.

Pay it off in three or four years. Enjoy life, take a vacation and buy a practical car if needed. No reason to go scorched earth as Dave calls it. Life is to short not to enjoy every day.

Cost of living estimate in Miami Florida 2021 was ,before taxes, around 20 percent higher than the rest of the entire state of Florida. Miami is pricey...period.. most of that percentage IS housing cost. Also..taxes.. home.owner's insurance...

I knew a top notch lawyer who died absolutely broke……. But he had a huge house and fancy cars! His brother had to tell his sister-in-lawman she was poor…..she had no idea!!! From jet set life to dead broke over night!!!

Dave never figures in the very high tax bracket they are in,, In Ontario they would be paying 50 % of their gross to tax cpp and ei premiums ..

$250K to be an attorney? He is a sucker. Never forget, no matter what law school one goes to, when one passes the bar ALL are Attorneys at law. The difference is, want to be taught by practicing attorneys or law school professors who have never been in a court room.

These calls with 100"s of thousands worth of student loan debt irritate me. It seems like every one of them are trying to find a way to not pay them! Why would a lawyer and Nurse anesthetist need to call in to find out how to pay it off??? Put your nose to the grindstone, live beneath your means and pay YOUR debt off that YOU signed up for!

That's absolutely right. Lots of professionals earning a lot of money are broke. I've been working with female medicine doctors earning great income but are spending more than they can afford. They are broke as well. What a shame. So sad to see the great potencial they have to live a great life, but they just don't 😥
