At a point in my career I stayed home with my 3 children and my husband worked. We only had to find a way to make 100$ a week to get right back where we were when I worked full time. No daycare, work clothes, lunches, or gas. Invaluable time raising our own children 🎉❤

Amen! I took a huge pay cut, ripple effect of Covid the plant I worked at closed. They gutted the lab so I went and worked at my kids daycare and got a HUGE discount on child care plus I had the same schedule and would see my kiddos throughout the day. I made friends with their teachers and currently teach the prek class. My youngest is still here so I will be here at least 2 years more. Our goal is to get me home but if we don't my degrees are still viable. I don't mind starting at the bottom again. I know how to make myself valuable again.

@ThePolypam , the income tax total is typically (not in Cali, but in most places) about 30% total (fed, state, ss, med, etc.). This would be about $923 per paycheck at $80,000 per year. This added to $1800 ($2723) multiplied by 26 paychecks gives $62629, not $80000. Benefits such as Healthcare are probably coming out before that, but shouldn't add up to $17371 per year.

Am I the only one going crazy? Ashley is SO far off. First, she claims her expenses are 4k but then says her rent is 2,300 and daycare is 1,250. That right there is 3,500. Then for a family of 3 I guarantee their food bill has to be be more than 500 a month and then you add on top of that the monthly utility bills, copays, gas, insurance, and other expensed. It HAS to be more than 4k. I’m glad Dave is getting her with a professional because her math is so off. I’m FAR from an expert (In fact, I’m terrible at math and I know there is something very off.) At the end of the day I wish her and the fam the absolute best in getting these finances figured out!
@ThePolypam

I am fairly certain she was not counting rent as a bill. 4,000 bills + 2,300 rent + 500 saving is close to 7,200, which squares perfectly with their take-home pay.

Ramsey viewers are getting SOFT if they think that call with Ashley was harsh. You guys must be new. That said, I bet the $160k includes year end bonuses and I think Dave thought she said $3600 per month when she said every two weeks. Now her numbers are definitely still off and she’s clearly spoilt, but I think those two factors clear up some of the confusion. But I think the big takeaway, honestly, is that anyone making $60K per year and listening to that woman would have the same disdain for her that Dave seemed to exhibit. I would have shut her off as soon as she started laughing to herself - good luck to her, she will probably be in debt the rest of her life.

Since this episode had a lot to unpack about Child Care I feel obligated to remind people of Dependant Care FSAs if you are having child care expenses! This is a huge $5,000 yearly benefit to pay Pre-Tax money for Child care expenses! If you're going to spend over $5,000 a year in daycare anyway, you might as well sign up for this with your employer to use pre-tax dollars. You will end up with more money in total, in your net paycheck + your daycare expense account than not using this benefit.

I didn't think Dave was unduly harsh with Ashley. A little impatient, maybe, but she was not clear with her numbers. She and her husband both net approximately $1,800 every two weeks, which "maths out" to $93,600 net/year. That is 58.5% that they take home WITHOUT 401k. I agree with Dave...they have WAAAAY too much taken out for taxes (unless GA taxes the bujeezus out of you). Our income is practically the same, and my husband nets 66.3%, and that's including 401k taken out. Something isn't tracking with her numbers. She wasn't clear if their $4k monthly expenses includes rent or not (Dave thought it did, Rachel didn't, and Ashley didn't clarify). I'm glad Dave is setting her up with a financial coach who can do a deep dive into the numbers and what's really going on. She definitely didn't like Dave pushing back on her, and she didn't seem open to his numbers. If they didn't jive with hers, she should have told him...well, in between him cutting her off.

I apologize I'm having trouble understanding your figure involving both the husband and wife netting 1800 every two weeks does that mean each of them gets a paycheck for $1,800 every two weeks or is that both of them combined? Because if it's both of them combined then that equates to 46,800 I also couldn't help but notice adding to my confusion here that you didn't post a timestamp. What is it about all you commenters here on the Ramsey Solutions videos that is a full show episode that you never post a timestamp involved in your comments? It's a 2-hour Plus show post a timestamp so people can quickly reference what you're talking about and be able to engage in intelligent conversation about it

@@motoryzenI 'm sorry I confused you when I said they both earn $1,800 every two weeks. I should have said they each earn $1,800 every two weeks, or better yet that she earns $1,800 every two weeks and he earns $1,800 every two weeks. That means they earn $3,600 combined every two weeks, which translates to $93,600 net/year ($1,800 + $1,800 = $3,600. $3,600 x 26 pay periods = $93,600). Does that help your math? I'm so sorry to have not been clear enough for you. 1:01:00 is a timestamp in the middle of the call. I apologize for offending you by not putting it in my original post.

11:55 to 12:09 while I completely agree with Dave's point there involving make trying to reach the point of not getting anything back as a refund and not owe anything in taxes. That is virtually impossible because if you work any job in which you might be forced to work any amount of overtime then depending on the amount of overtime hours total that year you may end up in a different tax bracket and still end up either owing or chances are getting a small refund. Nothing is perfect. Don't beat yourself up if you end up getting a refund less of 200 bucks or owing $200 or less. In my opinion that means you're doing pretty damn good for any income that's above 20 grand a year

NO MORE ASKING ABOUT GROSS PAY!! A solution for Ramsey Solutions. . . . . ONLY ask a caller what they bring home each month! "How much money hits your bank account each month?" Your phone screeners need to make sure each caller has this info calculated and ready BEFORE the call goes through to Dave. (If the caller works on commission or tips, a monthly estimate needs to be calculated.) Dave routinely underestimates for taxes and health insurance withheld, and he is too frustrated these days to deal with any call involving gross pay. Just make it easier for the hosts, the callers, and the listeners by dealing with monthly NET pay. Maybe then we can avoid the callers who laugh at Dave and waste his time, and also avoid comments from listeners who believe that a raised and impatient voice is equivalent to "abuse".

I could not agree more because in the end the taxes must be paid one way or another. So there's no point in assuming that if you make $18 an hour you're going to bring home 37,000 a year take home pay that's nonsense in the United States of America without facing prison or jail time and in the end you're still going to have to pay taxes back
@notgivingmyemail3381
@notgivingmyemail3381 5 ай бұрын
The hosts definitely fail to account for taxes a majority of the time. It would be beneficial to talk about gross pay minus taxes and health insurance, but just talking net pay by itself may not be the answer. It can fail to take several factors into account. Things like 401k deductions, allotments to other accounts, and wage garnishments could be overlooked. It would also throw off their calculations for “anything with wheels or motors” ratios.

The call from Ashley from Savannah is why I love Rachel and have a hard time listening when Dave is on. She called for help and this is the way he talks to people. Rachel has to tell him to quit. He is not a good example of how to speak to people to his daughter. Or anyone's daughter. Rachel is so much more kind and empathetic in her responses. Which helps people more. LOVE YOU RACHEL!
