I never understood why my colleague’s parents paid for their college. Most didn’t seem to appreciate it. They bought their $5 frappes, went out to drink on fridays, and then complained they were broke. I am GLAD my parents did not pay for my college. It gave me better work ethic and value for my efforts.

I’ve never been impressed if a guy had an expensive vehicle because I always was wondering how much he owed on it. What did impress me though, was HOW they looked after it! Was it clean and beautifully kept? Pride of ownership and respect for the value of one’s own hard work says so much more about integrity, to me. Not concerned about the age or make of it. Not all women are swayed by flashy stuff. 🎉

I feel for Cliff. I had the same issue. My ex-husband pays zero towards college for our children, despite earning well over 6 figures. It's a really difficult situation. I work full time and a weekend job to cover the costs. I feel really torn because I don't want to drag my kids into it but it feels so unfair that their father won't make any sacrifices for them. Cliff- selfish people will reap what they sow! That is our only solace
@DeeDeebing
@DeeDeebing 9 ай бұрын
I had a parent like that. You have to operate as if you are the only parent to the child and accept that they may just be there in their body but not in investments. The emotional hardship will pass when you accept that it's just you.

Why doesn't he want to contribute? Is he paying into retirement, do you all have debt, did he pay for his own education. Just curious
@momosan11
@momosan11 9 ай бұрын
Why is she selfish? He acknowledged it was not contractual, the son is grown, and she DID assist previous years. How is she selfish if she cannot afford it for the first time and honest with her adult child about her financial situation? Clearly she doesn't want to speak with her ex if he has to send a "nice, business style certified letter" to her about a situation that literally has no legal standing to him or anyone. It's delusion to think all parents pay for college education, as Jade mentions student loan debt of $250k her and her spouse had. He states she never responded to the nice letter, then he calls a public show to try to bully her that way. Of course he will tell his son he called, creating the "see even Dave agrees she is wrong"...which in turn the son will say something to the mom...which may actually damage that relationship. She did the right thing by addressing her adult son about the situation. Appears she wants the ex spouse to leave her alone.

I make 6 figures and have 5 kids, none of whom I pay for their college. I pay for food, shelter, bought their first car and always instructed them they’re responsible for their expenses for college, or, even better, try choosing a trade you can start working in right away or have any college reimbursed. My parents didn’t cover my college, I earned my way through the past 28 years to a BSN while my employer covered my tuition.

Loved the phone call with Isaac! That’s why Dave is who he is. My beef with Jade is she’s obsessed with separating moms and kids to go to work. Now as hustling mom myself I don’t have a problem with telling moms that they can do allot while at home but she’s constantly not considering the value of being a home economist and the cost of child care.
@Teeyah2
@Teeyah2 8 ай бұрын
I respect your opinion, and of course, you have a right to one. However, when you're in a financial crisis, you have to pull out all the stops. It's not fair for you to represent Jade as if she is heartless and does not respect at home mothers. She's trying to help them come up with a solution. If there are relatives that can help with child care, then Mom can help contribute to getting the bills down. Remember, her husband called the show for help because he and his family are in crisis. Just saying.

My advice to Isaac, if you can get into a parts department within a dealership. If you are dependable, hard working you could make $60k plus with the one job and continue to work at the weekend job to get your debt cleaned up. I've worked at a dealer for 12 years, and they will reward those who put forth effort and take care of the customer.

Worth noting that if you don’t make your first few payments after you buy a car, oftentimes the dealership is on the hook for the loan. That gives you a bit of leverage on them when you go in and ask to be let out of the deal.

It was quite disturbing to hear the comment with the guy "cliff" attempting to manipulate his ex wife, and it not being addressed in a more serious manner. That's maybe why she is his ex....due to his manipulative abuse! The son is a grown adult! The ex husband is a grown adult! Notice he said she is trying to force him and the son to use "their money". Wow!!! What! While he is trying to manipulate her to use hers, even if she has to go into debt(he said she can take out loans). Hmm....He is attempting to control her, and when that didn't work, he sends her a letter about how she is ruining her adult son's life and future? How is that ok? He then started laughing about it saying he already paid or is paying it. So what was the point of him doing all that extra? He acknowledged it was not a contractual obligation. Odd how Jade, whose parents didn't pay for her college, Dave, and Cliff were highly dismissive that she ACTUALLY PAID the previous years, not because she had to, she chose to due to being in a financially sound position to do so. Things change. She communicated with her adult son and let him know that she was financially not in a position to assist him this time around. Cliff should be focused on his son, not his ex. Ex husband needs to leave her alone...it was creepy he was so fixed on her doing what he wanted...disappointing how this was addressed.

Don’t fully agree with Dave. Having no debt is great, that goes without saying. I really disagree with him on credit cards. While some people can’t handle them and go into debt, if you don’t over spend and pay it off in full then you aren’t paying the banks and it is similar to using a debit card or cash. It just requires discipline.

But she's the weakest host despite the fact sone people like her cuz she's sweet. It's apparent that she is a personality, not an expert. One example of many: Anybody who says 30year interests rates are lower than 15 year rates and has to be corrected by George isn't an expert.

My husband is a retired physician. He signed up for 2 annuity accounts in 2004 in a single life format. He is 84 and I am 71. I just found out that there is ZERO money in this type of account. If he passes away(which we all do), his pension stops and does not come to me. He has no life insurance. I never had a pension, I thought my husbands pension would cover me. He says he doesn’t remember doing this to me. The only thing I have is a home worth about 160,000 and he spent our savings. Is there any way to get any money from those two annuity accounts so that I don’t have to live on social security only? I’m quite upset about the whole scenario and scared.
@SuzanneU
@SuzanneU 7 ай бұрын
You need to talk to the annuity providers. I fear that your husband's decision is irreversible but there may be a way. A friend recently had a similar situation. Her husband set up his pension for single life. It died with him. He left nothing in savings and a bunch of debt. Dependent spouses really have to watch their own backs and secure their own futures. All you can really do now is hunker down, cut every expense to the bone, get a job, and put every penny you can scrape up into an account for yourself. If your husband is truly penitent, he will do everything he can to help you - including at least part-time work at any job he can find.

what's wrong with using a heloc to pay off credit card debt when it's lower interest?
@mattheauperry8358
@mattheauperry8358 9 ай бұрын
Because using more debt to pay off debt doesn't do anything. Paying lower interest doesn't matter when you're using the snowball method and throwing everything you can at debts to get rid of them.

@matheauperry8358 how can you say it doesn't do anything? math doesn't lie. lower interest means you pay the debt off faster, isn't that the goal here?

@alexpeighty7 you can't borrow more than 80% of your equity in a heloc which is no different from buying a house with a 20% down payment.
@mattheauperry8358
@mattheauperry8358 9 ай бұрын
@@MarkB-hm6os it only pays the debt off faster if youre making minimum payments where the interest matters over many years. If you're working to get out of debt and making far above the minimum then the interest never has a chance to accrue in the first place.

One of Ramsey’s mottos is “debt is not a money problem”. Even though people occasionally call in with complex financial problems, Dave almost always refers them to a Financial Expert. Jade is relatable, as a normal person that broke out of the “rat race” by dedicating her life to getting out of debt and never borrowing money again. All of the personalities have a specific domain because no single person could possibly compete with Dave’s 30 years of experience. Respectfully, Jade brings a unique perspective to the conversation and broadens the audience for the show.
