The best way to please goddess lakshmi is to be devoted to Narayana. She gets pleased because of the devotion that you have for Narayana. Worshipping her without worshipping him is like pouring water into a pot full of holes. Try not to do certain things in order to not anger her: 1. Do not insult or refuse the prasadam that you get when you go to a temple or when someone offers it to you. It is equivalent to insulting god's grace. 2. If you receive a garland in a temple, wear it at least for some time. Do not put it on your vehicle without wearing it because it would be an insult. Indra put the garland he received from Maharishi Durvasa on Airavat because of which he lost his kingdom as he insulted Narayana's prasadam. 3. Do not insult food and complain openly that it doesn't taste good especially with respect to salt which is why some salt is added on the side of the plate when serving dishes traditionally in the South of India. Be grateful for the food that you have and eat it without insulting it.

Devition to Shriman Narayan pleases Maa lakshmi in a different way actually she is yogmaya and hence maya being the biggest obstracle in human liberation she removes that. She gives ultimate wealth that is spiritual wealth which leads to Shriman Narayan and u escape the cycle of birth and death. That is why Vaishnavas may look "poor" from outside but are the most wealthy, actually, like Mr Nandy said she gives the ultimate contentment and the realization that materialistic things mean nothing. That is why ppl say yo please Narayana/Shree Ram/Shree krishna, the easiest way is to please their shakti i.e Maa lakshmi/Maa sita/Radharani. If you perceive yourself as rich. You will be rich. It still doesn't contradict the fact Goddess Laxmi is the source of unlimited wealth whether one believes it or not. This wealth is defined as 16 ways in Hinduism. Rich doesn't mean just money. You should earn money dharmically. Money can be used in evil ways as well. They will face the consequences. Don't underestimate the principles of Hinduism. Karma is real for everybody who is not yet awakened. Who owns their life completely going beyond this physical reality. Karma doesn't exist for them alone. The problem with everybody is they try to understand infinity and fit the narrative within the perspective of what you know. It's bit complex and simple. I don't know how to put it in words. Western Education System has completely destroyed Hindu mindset. We start doing this comparison. It's a valid question though.
