Deadpool isn't merely quirky and quick-witted. He's literally had his brain destroyed and rewritten a ton of times. He's in constant pain and can't die. His version of reality doesn't remotely resemble any other human being's. He's bonkers.

His past may be perpetually rewritten, but his psychology and coping mechanisms remain mostly the same and really vary only slightly by writting style. One portion of his psychology that never gets talked about that i find interesting, is how he uses his nihilism to become happy. When he feels nothing matters, he just has fun. Because nothing matters so who cares, you? Your opinion doesn't matter. So I'm going to just do what makes me happy. I like that.

Thank you for pointing out what a tool humor is. I've felt that movie-Deadpool frequently uses humor as a mask, even more than his actual mask. He does have a genuine joy and hope, but I've noticed he uses it more often to reflect the behaviors of those around him or deflect any self-doubts he has. He especially cranks it up if he knows it's bugging someone, it's good at disarming opponents (Francis/Ajax), but it's also good at knocking down walls (Logan). It might not be the best method (again, Logan), but by forcing him to engage, that's how they were able to make a connection. But he doesn't use his humor against his friends. He's much more candid with them, much more open and honest and genuinely kind. He uses humor as the bridge between them, a way to meet them on their level or whatever stage in life they are. (Not so much with the comicbook-Deadpool.)

What is the comic book Deadpool more so like?
@ThornWolf1
@ThornWolf1 12 күн бұрын
@@RenfromBespin It's a little hard to describe as his original concept truly is a joke character, meant to mock the grim-dark direction comic books were taking. The best way to put it is that he was much harsher. He lacked a lot of the humanizing moments the movies give him. It was played that his rapid healing abilities were continuously rewiring his brain, causing mental instability and psychosis. Since he was a different person moment by moment, he had true moral ambiguity. His goals and desires could and would change at any given moment, regardless of what information he had. He also didn't form many bonds, and the few he did have were arguably shaky. The real world reason for this is writers believed his series would be cancelled at any given moment because his concept was so insane. They believed whatever they did with Deadpool didn't matter because he wasn't going to last for more than a few years. When it became clear that the character and franchise wasn't going to be ended any time soon, later issues softened him and gave him a central moral code, which then carried into the movies and were enhanced by them.

I wanted to write whole essay about something that happened to me but let me just say that characters like Deadpool, Naruto etc. hit me right in the spot. Punched by terrible trauma that made me realise how life is just meaningless and how people take it to seriously. I became that "serious goof" just like Wade is. Outside, joking all the effing time, inside, caring, hopeful and understanding like no other. That's why I love this version of Deadpool so much, it's me minus the superpowers.

I do like the dynamic between the two. Deadpool, riddled with insecurities (and cancer) then Wolverine who has anger issues. In my circle of friends, one of my best friends has mild autism and has described almost the exact same thing to me. For him, he doesn't always read the room well. We all know this, and none of us care, because we know his heart is in the right place. We are in our early 40's and 50's - I think as I got older, I cared more about where someone's heart is, more than anything else. I think my friends are similar. For me, being selective with my friends, and tending the friendship (over years) worked really well.

The thing with Deadpool is that he's legit crazy and extremely quick to violence. That's why he's generally avoided by other heroes, its not just because he's annoying, he's wildy unpredictable. They've only shown in the movies how he got his powers but before that he was violently abused child who ended up killing his own father and then also killing his incredibly loving adoptive parents. In the comics he has what could be generously described as an ''inner monologue'' but really he talks to himself, he's extremely damaged but unusually decent at times. But aside from all that the main reason he's insane is that Deadpool knows he's fictional, he knows he's just a character in a comic book/movie, he knows he's not real. It's even considered to be one of his powers because he can't be mind read, or he can but his mind is such an unpleasant place to be and because anyone who dares enter his mind is struck with an immediate existental crisis when they discover that nothing is real. That's why he breaks the fourth wall, he knows he's in a comic and we're the reader.
@v.v365
@v.v365 21 күн бұрын
I think Deadpool can be that believer, that hopeful person for others, because he knows for a fact that he is in a story, and stories go in certain ways, so he knows he can help the story go in a direction that’s better for everyone around him if he just puts in the effort.
@v.v365
@v.v365 21 күн бұрын
Deadpool also knows he will walk away from every situation, due to his healing factor, so fear and anxiety don’t serve him in the kind of work he does, so he doesn’t waste time worrying about those things, that’s why he can be so ruthlessly efficient and why he can have fun in the middle of a fight.

I like what you said about how failure is giving up and how it’s important to have people to root for you. What made my failures hurt more was that people around me didn’t root for me. You can say they aren’t right for you all you want, but nobody wants to be alone for so long. I had to deal with failure and the loneliness that came from it. Sometimes, I feel like what makes life a joke is that it only rewards the strong and the winners. This is why I’m not a fan of characters like Deadpool. They’re a joke compared to people who have far more success or less or no baggage. Some people suffer less and get to prance around while others have pain that has nowhere to go

Humour as a defence/defusal mechanism is also especially true for neurodiverse individuals to get out of the awkward situations and interactions we get stuck in. Distracts the people around us from something we might have done or said outside their neurotypical expectations. i am so lucky to have friends who believe in me and im doing my best to be that friend to them as well. ive been the funny friend for a long long time but i noticed that before therapy it was mostly very self-depricating, very cynical humor and while i never intended to put others down i did often use backwards language to compliment people but i realized just how much words can impact how i feel about myself and how i make others feel so in recent years i do my best to really only ever say positive words even when im joking. and i also started to be more open about my feelings so i never hesitate to tell the people i love how much they mean to me. i think it makes a lot of difference, humor combined with genuine kindness, intended to lift everyone up. that said i am struggling with my new job, trying to find my footing and since im, surprise surprise not immediately perfect at it, my confidence took a dive and i almost miss my previous (awful) job where i could joke with everyone even though i didnt like them much because i was confident in myself... im sure im gonna improve soon but this transition period is super hard rn which brings me back to how much the support of my friends means to me. anyways, im rambling, wade is one of my favourite characters in the marvel universe so thank you for your video!! id love to see one about logan as well :3

…yeahh…I do this. Apparently before I started school (despite the adhd moodiness) and got the joy very quickly bullied out of me by what was so intense and prolonged with what my therapist is trying to get me to recognize as emotional abuse/neglect by my peers/teachers/community/lesser extent my parents (but they kept me there, and blamed me for not doing well and having any emotions at all, even laughter became “too much”) APPARENTLY I was “infectiously positive” and they wanted 4 Year Old Me back (y’know, the cute preschool kid who wasn’t traumatized yet, but they still didn’t have much tolerance for.) Now as an adult after a LOT of on-going therapy and finding a less conventional medication to take that at least chills out my cptsd symptoms enough for my mind to feel clearer than it has in literally half my life (which is just enough to make some progress, although there’s talk about increasing it, especially since I cannot take adhd meds like we’d hoped) …I am noticing that NOW people see me as Kind and Supportive, but apparently infectiously so. What I don’t always let them see despite saying “I’ll hold onto hope for you” because I really do get it with hope being too painful to bear is just how jaded I am-especially since I’ve always been judged harshly for it. That I’m dead tired and I need people to carry the hope for me that I’m not yet able to fully carry for myself, but I have so little trust in people. (That I’m actually a super feeler and a super analyzer, and a lot of it is because of my adhd and fearful-avoidance/cptsd, but mostly the adhd and having that as my personality to begin with even as a kid. Feeling things intensely, apparently being infectious, but also “well that’s bullshit” or “how/why?” would not have been out of place in my thought patterns (just with less swearing.)) But…yeah. If I’m in a friend group, it knits together apparently pretty quickly. Despite key people also disliking me, or I’m being pushed out as I’m apparently a bonding agent for others…so I leave. And then these groups die. Or my college choir last year. We actually did become tightly knit simply because I give everyone patience and encouragement and celebrate others’ efforts and wins, while being privately dedicated and feeling like I have to be on point at all times or very quickly, so the others admitted to trying to match that. But…I typically don’t get to have the care I give others outside my online friendship. There’s…perhaps one exception? The person I like I have literally seen them slowly transform into looking happier and more confident since we started interacting, and I’ve seen hints of their familial relationships and dynamics improving as well. They all but said I “saved them” the other day under the guise of petsitting on short notice but. What they don’t realize is…they and their family are slowly saving me too. I think I might actually believe them now about wanting to spend time together (even if it’s logistically nigh impossible), and that someone actually wants to help and support instead of being insincere or wanting to use or betray or have power over me. They were someone relatively safe to try and catch up on social skills my environment made me miss out on and all the pain involved in that. They’re the first person to see me lose it in a cptsd episode and not immediately crucify me about it, but actually stick around to continue to develop a friendship, anyway. They actually work through conflicts we have, and when there was a really bad one caused by others that hurt us both despite our best intentions, they didn’t leave, and for once someone else got in the mud to resolve things instead of letting me become the scapegoat yet again and cleaning it all up alone. And I know I never would’ve tried returning to college to finish a music degree if I wasn’t aware of their own pursuit of their own art despite how hostile our religious environment is towards artists. Just. Yeah. Those people who you feel better after talking with and spending time with? We need support and encouragement and company too. Please don’t assume we can sustain ourselves with a superhuman reservoir, or that we must be popular and included in things because we’re “so kind!!” Often we’re not, because of our own histories or assumptions others project onto us. And while we get along with a lot of people, we can just as easily be universally hated for those exact same traits.

I think that Rocky Balboa said it best: "You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

Great video, neat to see the less serious nature of someone directed and see why they are like that. I think breaking down the psychology of Jojo's Bizarre adventure characters would be really neat. From serial killers to devote priests to everyday people trying to do the right thing, I feel like there would be a lot to dissect and would interesting to hear about.

Hope is a powerful emotion. Spite may be more focused, it’s still fleeting. Deadpool finds the joy in the darkest of times, and I’ve always appreciated that.

In the comics, it’s implied that he’s a “sad clown”. Because he’s in constant pain, has a tragic backstory, and literally can’t self-delete to end it all, he’s constantly running his mouth and joking to distract from how miserable his life really is.

Interesting how you call out how nervous or anxious people sometimes use humor as a mask. In the comics, it has been said by Spider-Man that he quips at his opponents because he scared. It's something he'd never do without the Spider-Man mask on.

Theres been a few people at my job that really seemed to believe in me, while there were equal ammounts that seemed to despise me. But whenever i lifted heavy and then from the sidelines a kollegue aknowledged it, it felt awesome. I hope i was able to return the favor when he played drums. Anyway, a tiny compliment can go a huge way. Whenever you are impressed with someone, tell them. Its a beautiful gesture we all should adopt.

after beginning binging the walking dead again and seeing this show up in my feed, i got the idea for a series about the walking dead and characters psychologies over the seasons. like how growing up in the apocalypse and the events of each season would affect carl or how rick turned from a kind-ish police officer into a ruthless killer.

The only thing I might push back on is that Deadpool likes himself. He's emotionally dependent on someone else to the point that losing her was the catalyst for the entire second movie, and in some respects, the third movie. Maybe even the first. He needs that external validation and motivator, lest he become cartoonishly self-destructive. "Fake laugh, hiding real pain!" At least that's my understanding of the character.

The thing that makes deadpool deadpool and enables him to joke is: He KNOWS he is character in the story. It kinda would make anyone crazy, but instead he finds nihilistic joy in that fact, I think. Like, he knows about the plot and that he has certain level of plot armor so he may joke around. Even if he does things like wishing to sacrafice himself and so on, part of him knows that in the due time they will revive him somehow. I mean, this is deadpool for you. Merk with the mouth, parody of Deathstroke turned one of the most liked Marvel characters, pure antihero, with parts of him being villain, and a dude who is deaply hurt but also that prefers to laugh with the others rather than being laught at by others... And also a bit of pansexual icon when you think about it

I do remember one comic where a girl is about to commit self deletion, and Deadpool comes in to help talk her down and even direct her to “jump off” whatever building spider man is at knowing he’d save her. Man takes her on a ride on his motorcycle around town and eventually stops at the hospital. Man admits that he’s smart enough to know that he’s too dumb to help, and helps check her in at the hospital. This is what I love about Deadpool. Yes, he is one crass dude who doesn’t take things too seriously, but when it comes down to it, he’s a good dude who does want to help people in his own way.

Be the Deadpool that you want to see in the world. That's... _honestly,_ in a lot of ways, a kind of personal motto that I've tried to live with for quite a lot of my life. Some of it may well be the influence of my dad growing up. Since he's from England, he definitely brought the fine tradition of "piss-taking" to the States with him to incorporate into my upbringing. I was raised with the whole sense of taking nothing so seriously that I couldn't joke about it, while also... yes. Taking the important things in life seriously... but still being able to grin and joke about them. I honestly take it as a huge compliment when people tell me that I look so relaxed XD Life's too important to take it too seriously!
