What always strikes me about Powder's visual hallucinations is the glitchy, scratched out faces and expressions look like the way a child would draw a monster. Which really hurts worse when she has the memories of Vi slapping her and having those effects on her face, considering the game Vi talks to Caitlyn about that she and Powder played.

I have Borderline Personality Disorder, C-PTSD from constant trauma, and ADHD. Never in my life have I related more to a character than Jinx. I experience psychosis pretty regularly. It’s brought on by stress in people with BPD. If my abandonment trauma is triggered, I get the voices telling me how worthless I am. Sometimes they’re inside my head, rarely are they outside my head but it does happen. I tend to see visual hallucinations 90% of the time, again, when I’m stressed. Missing just one night of sleep can trigger them, but so can a conversation gone bad. My point is, stress, and more specifically trauma, are the biggest triggers for psychosis in those with BPD and PTSD. BPD causes me to have delusions pretty much every day. I automatically interpret facial expressions and tone in a way that is skewed to the negative. When Jinx saw Caitlin’s face turn into an evil grin with horns, I couldn’t believe they depicted exactly what I go through incessantly! I internalized all my trauma as a child so now my brain developed in some funky ways. I see the world through a great big filter that came about from my negative life experiences and fear of rejection and abandonment. I hope this helps you guys understand her character a bit more. I implore you to look into BPD and see for yourself what I am talking about. I’m also a psych nerd so I’m speaking both from my own experience and my knowledge of mental disorders. I would be happy to elaborate in more detail my experiences if anyone is interested. :)

Hard same. I don't think I have ever related to a character so hard because of what I mentally live with daily. Thank you for writing this; it is probably the best possible explanation I have seen about living with BPD, CPTSD, and the trauma and stress we have to live with on a day to day basis. If not for my meds my psychotic episodes would be so sosososo much worse and they're easily triggered already.

On the caitlyn on the bridge bit, my interpetation is that Vi is no longer there. The last scratchy vision completely covered Vi from view. So when she opened fire, she wasn't shooting at her sister, cause in that moment she was already gone.

I am my own family's scapegoat, but I am also the older (half)sister, so I kept finding myself in bits and pieces of both Vi and Jinx. Truly, the way we each perceive the world changes the way we react and process events, which is why Jinx and Vi go very different roads in spite of having the same event as the core of their trauma, and besides their age difference, which does of course play an important part in the different roles and perceptions of each.

I feel like powder might have had psychosis her entire life but that in the beginning it was just during big, stressful, traumatic events and that she later had so much to deal with that it grew to become a constant?

One additional important scene was when Powder overheard Vi and Mylo talking and fled after she thought Vi was agreeing with Mylo. If she'd heard the full conversation, it was ultimately Vi dressing down Mylo but in that moment, she almost certainly would've concluded "Vi also doesn't believe in me". And a day later, she's ordered to stay behind by Vi

3:30 When I was younger when my mom was driving us places she would randomly tell me and my little sister to close our eyes and not open them until she says, I know some kids wouldn't have done this but I still don't know what she was seeing, probably a car accident. Jinx most like has border line personality disorder (BPD) so she has fear of abandonment- why she's always clinging to Vi sometimes Silco unstable relationships-why has trust issues with her experience unstable self image- torn between being powder vs Jinx impulsive risky behaviors -like making decisions of what she does self harm- hasn't really happened suicidal thoughts-when she actually wanted to die as powder seeing her best friend Ekko one last time and dropping the grenade intense mood swings-shown throughout chronic feelings of emptiness- mildly shown explosive anger-when she felt lied too or makes certain assumptions anxiety- shown throughout depression- shown throughout difficulty feeling empathy- again trust issues and lack of relationship building unstable plans or aspirations- shown childhood distress, childhood abuse, childhood neglect-shown throughout aside of abuse seritonin abnormalities-bever really was happy throughout her life after the evens we saw

Got to shut that suicidal the ekko scene lol. Lol yes either be brought in by the firelights aka the enemy and lose the gemstone or remove the enemy at all cost and keep gemstone. Its just a tatical choice as in the only choice.

I was wondering if you think that Powder could already be suffering from psychosis/mental illness before the first scene on the bridge. She barely reacts to her parents deaths, Vi is the one who gets upset. Could Powder have been destined to be Jinx?

People react differently to stress and trauma. Not everyone cries in those moments but many people expect that to happen as the “correct” response. Additionally, she is younger and might not react as Vi did because of this.

Judging from the tear marks on her face I would say she had already cried plenty at this point and was probably just too tired and exhausted to cry more. Or she simply did not fully understand what was going on, because she was too young.

I dissagre about how many people argue that "Powder was scapegoat of her family" she clearly is NOT, Vander supports her (and blames JUST VI) Vi supports her a lot, even Cleggor supports her in a most shy and quiet mode, (offers to go back to her, dosen't expect to do anything but stay safe, points that she is more skilled than Mylo in some fields) the only one blunty around her is Mylo and even he gests stoped by the rest of the family. No one but Mylo blamed her and that comes more from a place of frustration about how he is expected to do so much more being just some years older and she getting coddled for all the family than real hate.

How you defined trauma, saying two people can have the same event happen and one gets traumatized and another may not because its how we process events that matters is a great explanation. Its just an opinion but I can't help but roll my eyes anytime I see a comment "well, not everyone who had X happen ends up doing Y".....In other words since many didnt react a certain way we can scoff at someone who did perhaps do negative actions down the line. Its such an uneducated pov imo and it doesnt even matter in the tiniest bit that someone else reacted a different way or that two people or a thousand experienced the same event. Anytime I hear such a response I always think "So your saying they never walked in that persons shoes"...because they havent regardless if they had a similar experience....it doesnt make it the same or hold one accountable more so because another did different. I think its an easy way for one to justify turning there back on another....making there own excuse to do so.... Just an opinion.

I can't really speak to this as I am not a professional, and do not deal with these issues. While I can't say which scene is more important in the development of Jinx, I can say they both play a major roll. The thing with Powder, she got so much trauma as a child, that Jinx was inevitable.

Very important imo, the bridge comes up multiple times, it's very symbolic between piltover and undercity/zaun. It is also a transitory place, somewhere you go from one place to another, from one thing.. into something else..

She was most likely was talking about herself because of her actions in ep3 she became monster like hitting her then grabbing her and calling her a Jinx. Then saw her nose blead, came to the realization of what she has done by looking at and looked at her bloody hands, she needed to go cool off but she walked so far away in the dark tunnel where power couldn't see her making her think she left her. At least that's a closer analysis because it makes more sense imo.

I believe that you are right. Vi was the monster. She raged on Powder, which is Vi's stock response. "Something upsets me, I punch it". This is not to blame Vi. She is going through it as well. When she realizes what she's done, she escapes the situation. Vi has only two settings: fight, and walk away. She was the monster she couldn't fight off.

Did Claggor actually say anything bad about Powder? It seemed like it was only Mylo with his severe middle-child syndrome. Also, if you haven't seen the music video for Enemy, it might give you a different perspective on Powder/Vi- Vi definitely wasn't a perfect older sister, which makes her more human and a better character, IMO.

i dont really agree with the fact that vi didnt get mad at powder (4:43) because in the enemy music video we see them arguing pretty violently and One thing i noticed Is that to the side (After vi pushes powder to the ground) we can see a drawing of mylo which Is very similiar to her visions, i think powder could have correlated those moments with mylo

No. The term Sociopath and Psychopath aren't actual terms used in the medical world because it tends to just be people who have different mental illnesses mixed with a lack of empathy and sympathy so they aren't actually medically real illnesses. She has very severe schizophrenia (because of the psychosis. Seeing siblings that weren't actually there, hearing their voices telling her she's not good enough, etc etc), PTSD (from the trauma and the reliving said trauma with certain triggers like Vi) and possibly even Borderline Personality Disorder (Unstable, struggling to understand her identity, intense mood swings, explosive anger, impulsive risky behavior, and seeing everything as "they're leaving me/their intentions are bad" even if they aren't). I'm no doctor so take my word as a grain of salt but we just studied therapy and mental illness in my psych class in college this week so I should be mildly close I believe :3
