I'm also exploring the therapsid/PT setup, with midi CCs you can switch waveforms to noise to do the bass/drum trick on a single track, not as efficient as sid files but there are some things to try :)

Hiya Maddi ☺️ and that new unit looks and sounds amazing! I bet you and Rich have been having a blast since it arrived and the creative possibilities just keep getting better and better. Looks like a well thought out and nicely constructed system and l would be in heaven with that many dials to turn lol 😂 I do love seeing you in your element with all the creative things you do and it comes across so well in your videos, very inspiring. All the best to you, Rich, Mr Neelix and everyone there. Have a great weekend ☺️👍🏼

Hey Jason! Haha I was definitely in my element in this one, especially when i'm close to getting my album done, then this turns up, I gotta include it also! 😀 Lol a lot of dials to turn, notice i'm very careful of the terminology 🤣or i'd get teased from certain friends Lol! i'm glad you enjoyed the video Jason, I hope yourself and Fi will have a great weekend 🙂

Looks like a nice unit for exploring the SID sound! I'm sure you will get great use of it. I've always liked the SID for bass sounds, as the filter is a bit unconventional compared to most dedicated synths. Never been a fan of the "wide open" filter sound of the SID, as it's too buzzy for my tastes and the range of filter from wide-open to closed is hard to control. But there's some nice sounds still left in it, and the ability to blend two of them into different modes opens up a set of new possibilities I think that make it useful even today - it's always been a nice "retro" sound, but new applications maybe for more modern music making. I know that's not your focus, but TherapSID has certainly tried to make it more flexible than just chiptunes and retro SID trills, which appeals I hope to a wider audience. Having the hands-on controls is a great idea too, and is nicely appealing.

Commenting midway through the video to say: noodling about on the keyboard then jump cut to the next day is very accurate to how synths affect time for the user 😅

I remeber the time when the Elektron SIDstation was more or less the only hardware SID synth out there that eventually became a highly sought after expensive piece of gear because of its low quantities and those who had it would not really wanna part from it again. I wonder how well the SwinSID works with this?

I have two SwinSID Ultimates in mine, mk2 Works just fine, makes a little beep when then channel is changed though, and is too big for the case. The mk3 version fits, as well as the fpga sid

Oh wow, I’m pleasantly surprised the voice change commands still worked over MIDI! That means you could use the dual-SID compatible chiptune trackers on your modern computer to program files if you wanted, too. I wasn’t sure if that would work considering the voice allocation limitations to the paraphony you discussed, but that means the Polyend should be able to switch waveforms too - I’m pretty sure it can send MIDI SYSEX, I think I’ve seen other people do that! That makes me think I should consider using waveform change more often on my hardware synths over MIDI too. I’d need to program the SYSEX I think but they all support it. I got a little confused in the discussion about sequencers, because trackers are the only kind of sequencer I understand! But I totally feel the same about piano roll sequencers. Trackers are a lot closer to the sheet music I grew up with, conceptually not visually. You say “play a D4, and add this effect” or “now play an A4, and slide to it” in both. Both are pretty loose about time, that being something you specify later. Piano roll is so fiddly and specific about horizontal placement and doesn’t communicate a ton of other important stuff. Also using a pencil case for all your dongles and adapters is SUCH a good idea. I recently got a nice pencil case to hold just a couple pens and pencils I didn’t want rattling around, but hadn’t considered doing the same for my adapters - which are also rattling around! I’d seen other people use a zip lock bag but that just didn’t feel right to me. What a great idea!!

I have the MEGAfm Mk.1 synth by Twisted Electrons which uses two Yamaha FM chips used in the Sega Genesis/Megadrive, absolutely love the sound of it. Alex is great for putting out really good firmware updates for these things, definitely worth keeping an eye on the downloads page.

@@MsMadLemon Limbic Bits has some great sound demos of it, the Mk1 anyway. The Mk2 version comes with a later version of Genesis chips which sound cleaner and has a different character, and uses sockets so the chips can be swapped if desired though I don't know if there's much choice out there atm.

First?? --- but WOW! i didnt expect it to need real SidChips though, BUT its a legit hardware too now!! it sounds just so CLEAN!! LOVE the tactile nature of this machine! no "click click click click...." it would be madness! this makes setting up the FLO's so much more accessible! this is nuts!!! i didnt see anything about over clocking the SIDCHIPS ;) i was wondering that if overclocked it could do some REALLY crazy Effects, but MIDI inputs too! THAT is a touch of AWESOME

Hello. How does this synth work without SID chips?
@MsMadLemon
@MsMadLemon Жыл бұрын
The whole point of the Synth is to work with SID chips.. unless you mean using SID Substitutes like ARMSID, SwinSID, BackSID etc. If so yes you can install them instead of actual SID Chips.

@@MsMadLemon So they are like oscillators? This device couldn't start working without it?
@MsMadLemon
@MsMadLemon Жыл бұрын
@@user-sx2iw2hq3l The SId chip is the Commodore 64's sound chip, it has oscillators, envelope generators, filters etc. Basically a synthesizer on a chip. Of course it has to be programmed. The TherapSID drives it.
