I was 12 y/o in 1989 when I heard this song for the first time in one of my cousin’s cassettes from a San Francisco New Wave radio station, and I was hooked. Most girls my age were into the New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gipson and I was into Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, and Depeche Mode, so SO AMAZING!

Industrial deep underground dance music still kicks ass today in the 2017 and beyond! I still play it in my Jeep Wrangler at age 50. People hear it and start bobbing their heads to the beat of the new wave sounds. Old new wavers never die, they just keep on dancing....

This wasn't just in Houston. There was a club near Forum 303 mall -look it up, you'll see- in Arlington TX. It was called Club Alternative, That's the first place I got patted down. They had a tire swing, and spray paint cans on pedestals where you could paint the walls. A weird mix, and it nearly made my ears bleed, but freedom reigned. Now, they would get shut down for no handicap access (through the broken door you had to crawl through).

Well for me this stirred many emotions & i felt torn feelins everytime we would be fixin to walk out of that club cuz i knew what was comin, knew what was on the other side of those blacked out glassed doors! For me it was more than sun in my eyes it was if someone was nudging me sayin "Wendy,Wendy baby wake up,time to wake up!Sleepytimes over!👀open ur eyes!" Then well u know💥brightest sunlight shining dn on you & really no where to escape from it,guess its what a bunch of vampires would be dreadin! May i share w you a lil piece of what i felt it to be! It always started w that big beautiful church! It seemed to have a halo surroundin it💫 illuminating a perfect glow w the softest, warmest & most welcoming invitation to come walk inside!my friend, i dared not be that brave! i never walked in nor answer whom i knew was callin for me to wake up! And yes i know why! I was not right in my mind, not right in my heart & not anyway right in my soul! Just a sad mixed up gurl young barely 18 yr old gurl! Yeah that is who i REALLY was, who i hid from everybody including myself! I dared not to show just how really scared i was...of everything! You see i had just lost my mama, very suddenly, very unexpectedly, very messed up cuz we were barely speakin when she passed away! We had just had words even that very day she left this world,..no sorrys, no forgiveness,..only unfinished & only unsettled words i was now left to carry w me forever! She died on a cold Feb nite in a hospital all alone in a room by herself! I know of no other sadder way for one to die but all alone w no one there w you,..but a silent emptiness that im sure was louder than she could bare! DOES ANYONE WANT/WISH TO DIE ALL BY THEMSELVES, w out not 1 single loved one there beside to hold their hand, to kiss their cheek, to whisper a goodbye! Not a prayer was said until it was far too late! I sent her away w NOTHING!! MY MAMA, you only ever have 1 mama & who was far from perfect but she was mine! When she is gone, trust me, you come to fully understand what FOREVER really means! No longer can u run to that safe place that only she could give,..its empty now! I think its that beautiful special connection that is created in the womb,.. there is non that can compair! Its holds a delicate strength all its own! So yes this has effected me for my entire life. Esp now w being a mother myself it gave me a whole new understandin of just how hard that role can be but such an important gift to be given! Not the day to day lil tasks, oh i delight in those! Its all the many other different lil things that only a momma can know, only a momma can fix, only a momma will see or notice, only a momma can tell, only a momma can touch! For mommas, we are our childrens greatest teachers, it comes w a great power that we are given to bless, to hold, to hear, to spoil, to mold, to correct, to teach, to talk w, to laugh w, to cry w & to imprint & give to them a part of you that they will carry w them forever thruout all of their life! Strong enough to help them thru their hardest of times & soft enough to pass & share w those who they hold dear & love! It totals up to be the very best of you & unfortunatly also the not so very best of you as well,..for they see EVERYTHING! I LOVED HER ENORMOUSLY! BUT HOW COULD I HAVE SENT HER INTO ETERNITY W OUT LOOKIN IN HER EYES TELLIN HER HOW VERY SORRY I WAS FOR WHATEVER SILLY LIL THING WE HAD FUSSED OVER! I DIDNT TELL HER THAT SHE WAS THE BEST MOMMA I COULDVE EVER HAD! THAT I DIDNT KNOW HOW I WAS GONNA MAKE IT HERE W OUT HER & THAT I WOULD MISS HER TERRIBLY TIL WE ALL MEET AGAIN! THAT SHE DIDNT NEED TO WORRY CUZ I WOULD TAKE CARE OF MY TWO LIL SISTERS & WOULD ENDLESSLY SEARCH UNTIL I FOUND OUR OTHER SISTER THAT SHE NEVER STOPPED YEARNING FOR OR BEATIN HERSELF UP FOR GIVING AWAY! AND WHEN I WOULD FIND HER I WOULD TELL HER WHAT MOMMA HAD ASKED OF ME FOR YRS TO EXPLAIN TO HER & I WOULD MAKE HER UNDERSTAND THAT SHE WAS SO VERY LOVED & NEVER THROWN AWAY! I TRIED TO MAKE IT UP TO YOU MOMMA FOR LEAVING YOU W ONLY JUST THAT LAST HURT TO CARRY YOU OUT FROM THIS WORLD,..I CAN ONLY PRAY I HONORED HER BETTER AFTER DEATH AS I SHOULDVE IN LIFE! THAT SOMEHOW SHE KNOWS I TRIED MY VERY BEST! I DID EVERYTHING SHE ASKED ME TO DO ON ALL THOSE MANY NITES THAT SHE WOULD TELL ME SHE WOULD BE DYING SOON & THEN CRY HERSELF TO SLEEP IN MY ARMS,..SO I KNOW NOW SHE REALLY DID KNOW DEEP DOWN INSIDE, I JUST DIDNT! SHE MUMBLED EVERY SINGLE DETAILED INSTRUCTION DOWN TO THE TEE! I WAS JUST TOO YOUNG & NIAEVE,.. NOT ABLE TO FULLY GRASP THE WEIGHT OF ACCEPTING HER TRUTH MUCH LESS WANTING TO BELIEVE THAT SHE MIGHT JUST BE RIGHT,.. I PASSED IT OFF AS JUST ANOTHER DRUNKEN SADNESS OVER MISSING OUR DADDY WHO HAD TOO HAD PASSED AWAY NOT EVEN FOUR FULL YRS BEFORE! I HOPE I MADE HER PROUD OF ME CUZ I REMEMBERED IT ALL,.. EVEN PLAYIN HER FAVORITE SONG AT HER FUNERAL & MAKIN SURE SHE WAS BURIED W HER THICK FUZZY SOCKS KEEPING HER TOESIES WARM, I EVEN TUCKED HER IN TIGHT W HER FAVORITE BLANKEY! I HOPE THAT SHE HAS FORGIVEN ME FOR NOT BEING AT HER SIDE,..IM SORRY MOMMIE I JUST DIDNT KNOW IF I COULD GO BK IN TIME I WOULDVE CLIMBED IN THAT BED W YOU & HELD U ALL NITE! I LOVE YOU MOMMIE SO MUCH STILL,..AND ITS STILL ALWAYS TO THE MOON & BK A GAZILLION TIMES OVER & OVER FOREVER & EVER! SO NOW U WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT A HARD PILL TO SWALLOW,..AND KEPT SWALLOWIN FOR A SPELL! ONLY NUMBING THE PAIN BUT NEVER FOR LONG ENOUGH! I FINALLY FOUND MY REAL CURE WHEN I FOUND JESUS! HE RESCUED ME FROM YRS OF PUNISHING MYSELF & HE IS STILL HELPING ME LEARN HOW TO FORGIVE ME FOR BEING ME! TEACHING ME THINGS TO PASS ONTO MY PRECIOUS LIL EMME & SHOWING ME HOW TO BE HER BEST MOMMIE! AND ALWAYS LETTING ME KNOW THAT I AM STILL AM LOVED & SO IS SHE! LOVE IS A GIFT THAT SHOULD ALWAYS BE TREASURED & FOREVER BE GIVEN AWAY TO AS MANY AS YOU CAN SHARE IT WITH!
