Great video, Lipos have higher discharge rates and NIMH batteries drop voltage a lot faster under load than Lipos do but most companies include them with lower end cars since their safer to use than Lipos. I definitely plan to get one of these for me and maybe a Gorgon or a 2WD Slash BL-2S Kit for my granddad next year but i may ditch the NIMH straight out of the box and go Lipo since i've been in this hobby since 2020 and know how to use and charge lipo batteries. At high speeds, you are discharging the battery at a high current and internal battery resistance becomes a limiting factor dropping the voltage available at the motor. Looks like the Lipo you used has lower internal resistance making more voltage (power) available to the motor. When you make a power run and the battery gets warm or hot, it is because of the internal resistance of the cells.

@jonnygospel8820 күн бұрын
depending on discharge rate and how many times you ran the truck, brushed motors need to seat brushes, usually run better when broken in properly, even brushless need to seat then run better after break in
@druscanam2 ай бұрын
Voltage sag. NiMH has lower discharge so the voltage sags more under load. If the car was geared very low(small pinion) it's possible the 8.4v NiMH would be faster. But the more weight and higher gearing the more voltage sag occurs. Also when 7 cell NiMh batteries are freshly charged they can out perform in top speed a 2S lipo although they advantage using only last maybe 30 seconds at which point the lipo would quicker with the more you discharge the more advantage the lipo has. It's also possible just by doing a 50 and 75% first on the NiMH you may of dropped a couple of mph. You probably noticed when flying your drones or planes on FPV how the voltage sags under load, well on a NiMH is does it much more then a lipo basically.

We used to use nickel cadmium batteries in handheld drills a lot back in the day. We've come a long way. I still remember seeing the real world differences. For example oldschool batteries have higher internal resistance and drop fast, but they don't have as sudden a drop off. Could use a drill down to where it got slow but was still barely chugging. With modern Lipos it seems a little weaker then suddenly dies from hard dropoff. While it's holding that voltage though, it's putting out more current than the older alternative.

I'm all Arrma, and HPI now. Also... Lipos have a higher outpoiut than Nimh. That's the "C" rating. More amperage, more like a capacitor, and less like a battery. Voltage is like the amount of fuel. higher discharge rate gives you more punch nickel, metal, hydride batteries don’t have that high of a discharge rate. and the nickel metal hybrid if you have it on a charger and you pay attention to its max voltage on a smart charger its max voltage will be just a little higher than what it states so with a lithium battery except it’ll have a higher state of charge. It’s all about discharge rate. Burst rate. That’s my guess.
