Some more dates worth looking at (of course one day after the actual events!): May 22, 1927: Charles Lindbergh landed in Paris, completing the first solo airplane flight across the Atlantic Ocean. November 10, 1989: East Germany opened its frontier to the west. February 12, 1990: Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years. Thank you for sharing this, Karen! I am so in love with the idea of doing a puzzle with one of these front pages. I cannot decide which one I should order but definetely will! Such a good idea for NYT to add a section to their website that is a preselected ‘world events’ particularly given most world events are reported in the press the following day it would certainly encourage people to be more confident on their selection. Given the jigsaw looks such nice quality its a pity they haven’t completed the piece of the puzzle on the website with the ability to view the front pages on your selection.

As someone who spent many hours on a commuter train, I can say positively that the newspaper headlines ALWAYS look more interesting when I am reading them over somebody’s shoulder. Ha ha. If I were getting this puzzle for someone, I might want to select the front page from the day they turned 18, so the stories would be familiar to them. A strategy I use is I put the pieces in my view the way it sees the puzzle. For example, if I’m working on my puzzle at the angle you are where it’s not facing you, but my pieces are also going that direction on the table sorted, not facing me. It helps my brain not have to work harder and also so it can’t play tricks on me. It helps me spot the unique pieces faster too. Also, I actually read the text parts. In this case I would have read the paper so that when I see a piece I may be able to read enough quickly by memory of reading it and find it’s spot easier. (This tip only works if you’ve got a preview of the finished puzzle of course) I loved this video; so satisfying!! I would buy a puzzle for the signing of the ADA, that is, if it was front cover news lol also; newspaper 🤟🧩

I can't work on a puzzle unless it's up the right way - my brain just says nope! My mum still has some puzzles we got way back in the 70's and 80's, commemorating royal events here in the UK. Theres a couple for the Queen's silver jubilee, one of Charles and Diana's engagement, and one of their wedding. I don't think anyone has done them in years but we still have them for the nostalgia as much as anything.

I love the text in the puzzle, it looks like so much fun putting the stories together (kinda like a ransom note?). If it weren't so overpriced, I would love something recent and more colourful. They made several other historic front page puzzles - end of WW2, first man in space etc. It is only 500 pieces but I did the puzzle again this year and with my aging eyesight it was HARD, but still Fun. I see them on eBay pretty often. I have looked at the personalized NYT puzzles available today and I agree with you that a historic event would be more interesting than a birthday. I’d get Obama’s election in 2008. Great video as usual, Karen!
