Such a good idea for NYT to add a section to their website that is a preselected ‘world events’ particularly given most world events are reported in the press the following day it would certainly encourage people to be more confident on their selection. Given the jigsaw looks such nice quality its a pity they haven’t completed the piece of the puzzle on the website with the ability to view the front pages on your selection.

Some more dates worth looking at (of course one day after the actual events!): May 22, 1927: Charles Lindbergh landed in Paris, completing the first solo airplane flight across the Atlantic Ocean. November 10, 1989: East Germany opened its frontier to the west. February 12, 1990: Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years. Thank you for sharing this, Karen! Hi, Karen! I'm wondering if you would ever consider doing a video centered on puzzle artists? 'Funny' story: I recently took a trip to Target and I was so happy to find the puzzle I had been eyeing for months on the shelf. It was 'Icecream Social' 2000 piece by Buffalo Games. A second puzzle I bought that night completed a two puzzle 'collection' by the same artist, where I had the first at home, 'The Places You Will Go' and 'Wanderlust' 1500 pieces each by Buffalo Games, artist Marcy Day. The third puzzle I went home with was by Ravensburger: 'Needlework'. When I buy puzzles I especially like, I'm always interested in who the artist is. Looking at 'Icecream Social', I would have guessed it was by Aimee Stewart. However, I've 'lived' on the Buffalo Games website long enough to know that it isn't, so I searched the box and found the artist's name is Lars Stewart. I also searched the Ravensburger box and found that 'Needlework' is by . . . Lars Stewart. So, on the same night I purchased two puzzles across two brands with completely different looks and they're by the same artist! Apparently, I have a type. Haha. Anywho, I've got a collection of about 20 something puzzles and I seem to gravitate toward the same artists, most of which I seek out because I know I like their work. Many of the companies choose pieces by the same artists and some companies artist's are exclusive to their brand and are made specifically for puzzlers like you and I. I would find an open conversation about artists and their works across multiple brands a really fun and interesting video.

I can't work on a puzzle unless it's up the right way - my brain just says nope! My mum still has some puzzles we got way back in the 70's and 80's, commemorating royal events here in the UK. Theres a couple for the Queen's silver jubilee, one of Charles and Diana's engagement, and one of their wedding. I don't think anyone has done them in years but we still have them for the nostalgia as much as anything.

A strategy I use is I put the pieces in my view the way it sees the puzzle. For example, if I’m working on my puzzle at the angle you are where it’s not facing you, but my pieces are also going that direction on the table sorted, not facing me. It helps my brain not have to work harder and also so it can’t play tricks on me. It helps me spot the unique pieces faster too. Also, I actually read the text parts. In this case I would have read the paper so that when I see a piece I may be able to read enough quickly by memory of reading it and find it’s spot easier. (This tip only works if you’ve got a preview of the finished puzzle of course) I loved this video; so satisfying!! I would buy a puzzle for the signing of the ADA, that is, if it was front cover news lol also; newspaper 🤟🧩
