This was an incredible video and I learned something. Thank you. For the record, I think we all define weeds a little bit differently. For me, a weed is anything that subtracts more than it adds to the garden. One example. I have issues with bindweed. Yes, it's packed with nutrients, and I plan on trying out your method in the Spring/Summer. I'm sure I'll get great results. But it grows so aggressively that in my large plot, it takes many hours weekly just to keep it at bay. So the nutrients are what it adds. The labor it causes me are what it subtracts. And for me, it subtracts more than it adds. I can get nutrients anywhere. But I can't replace the hours upon hours that it takes to weed. Just my two cents. Still, your method makes it all a little less weedy. :) Thanks.

thats a great definition my friend and I can certainly understand that!!... if we are to classify a few plants as weeds they'd for sure be Bindweed, Quackgrass and Thistles!!!

I have always pulled and dropped my weeds in my garden before they went to seed. I used to get a lot of the weed henbit in my garden, which I used to make fermented plant juice. In the last three years I have researched JADAM and I'm sold on it. The only nutrient I worry about is phosphorous. Last year I dumped some organic bone meal into a Jadam 32 gallon black plastic trash can. The trash can was filled with sedum and comfrey. This year, I bought another 32 gallon black plastic trash can and filled it with tomato stalks, leaves, tomatoes and comfrey along with some sea salt and leaf mold. I'm excited to try it next year on my tomatoes and other night shades. I think your video is a great idea. You are turning lemons (weeds) into lemonade creating organic fertilizers that don't cost an arm and a leg. Innovative work for sure. Thanks and blessings to you in the name of Jesus.

Just watching your videos change my perspective and will be doing this for the rest of my career. Amazing! I never knew the role roots played. Pretty amazing! I used to loathe “weeds” until I learned how beneficial they can be. I discovered the stinging nettles that covered the area in my yard where my mower (set too low) had damaged the lawn. Those nettles I learned can be boiled into a tea and help with inflammation (my arthritis). Also, the “weed” Purslane- that also was all over my damaged lawn - is more nutritious than spinach! Now I embrace the “weeds” and consume them or use them in my compost heap.

Lizzie, Plz try this w your nettles... make a very strong tea and add about 1/4 cup at a time to Chicken soup. Adds a delicious 'mineral' taste. Don't overdo it. Taste as you go. I also mince the leaves and add them in for fiber and visual appeal. Nettle beer is still made in Europe. In the Middle ages Nettle was considered a woman's herb. Why? Because it's full of silica and that meant beautiful hair, nails and skin.

Having learned the value of active biology in the soil and leaving the non-competitive weeds alone, I now have the healthiest weeds I’ve ever seen in my life. Lol! For those that I have to control near rob plants, I cut them off at the soil surface and lay them on the garden for mulch.

I was fascinated with your introduction about why weeds always grow first. Also as to how useful weeds are in the right place. It's that old saying about weeds are only plants but in the wrong place. Fascinated by your comment about how living roots build soil. It's sandy where I live, and I noticed where ground cover plants are growing (typically invasive species) the soil is much more dirt like than the usual sandy loam. So I've learned to let such "weeds" spread, then yank them for fertilizer and mulch, while getting improved soil where the "weeds" were growing.

I made a 2 X 220 litre bins with a tap spout about 5 cm from bottom. I place on some bricks as high as a bucket so that the bucket sits comfortably under the tap spout . I place all weeds and fill with water. Usually that takes 6 months worth of weeds before using the second bin. After 6 months I start utilising the water out of spout to add 1:10 water to my garden watering. After a year I empty the solid remains and place in a compost much and allow that to break down. It now is ready for more weeds and contains some original water bacterial mix from the original batch. I simply add water if required along with weeds and cycle .

Thank you very much for all the time and effort you have put into this video and all prior videos. You provide a wealth of knowledge that I find easily accessible and readily implementable. So, onto my question: is there any benefit to pulling weeds and leaving them on the surface of land that does not readily grow plant life at the present time (i.e. dried-out, dusty land composed of grainy, light brown material)? Fresh, nutrient-rich topsoil will eventually be brought in to cover these areas of land, but in the meantime I would like to do something to improve what will become underlayment in the hope that future grass will develop deep roots. Or, am I completely off-base? Thank you in advance for your help!

thank you for the positive feedback my friend!!!.... its best to leave the weeds in the ground for now because they are feeding the soil and will not do so if they're dead... I'd suggest planting a "cover crop" immediately on that location to get living roots in the ground and begin transforming the soil... then when the cover crop dies it will all fall on top the surface and begin to decay and that will start the cycle for you... definitely a cover crop!

Get video! TY. For most people, this is life altering. Thanks!! Please consider redoing this as two shorter vids: Background (very interesting) and making the fertilizer!!! Earlier this year, I took a huge giant step: Make my own soil!! Make my own fertilizer from weeds? Perfect timing for me- Thanks again!

@@gardenlikeaviking Thanks for the kind reply: This morning I was cutting "weeds" I use to feed my chicken: I thought of your explanations these wide, flat green leaf 'weeds' were actually "mining" nutrients from the soil!! hehehe- TY for this!!

Weeds don't deserve the hate they get! They have many purposes! In my garden 90% of the plants are "weeds" the rest are grass which started to grow naturally. I very much dislike how people get rid of them and replace them with grass. Which are usually non native. So... American lawns. American lawns are the most unnatural lawns throughout the entire world! Giant monocultures.

Have you ever used a test kit to verify what the N, P, K is in the tea? I'm just curious what it would show as measurements and if it changes based on the various "weeds" you add to the tea or the amount added. Great video's in any case!!

Yes, I wonder about that myself. I haven't found any KZbinr who did this yet (both in English or Indonesian/Malaysian) on weeds fertilizer. Hopefully someone will make a video about such experiments and results from different concoctions of weeds soon. 👍 I'm totally interested and curious, if I have the time and means to do it myself, I will! Cheers.

Google dr Elaine Ingham, food soil web. You don't need to know those ratio's. As long as you make sure everything is in there and plant ready, the plant will take what is needed provided you have both your bacteria and fungi.

@@gardenlikeaviking Most awesome! The more I watch, Nate-a-thon videos, I find your lifestyle is much like mine, I love fermenting foods, I also feed all my critters wholesome fresh foods and if you are interested, I have a suggestion of two awesome holistic vets I follow, and your kitty would benefit. Mostly cats, I have three rescues, can eat what dogs eat, I have nine rescues, however there are some ingredients they should not have but dogs can, example garlic. Just an example. The two holistic vets I follow for wholesome fresh foods for our animals is Dr. Judy Morgan and Dr. Karen Becker they are the best holistic vets to follow. I found a dang female termite in one of my new rose plants I just bought that have been going belly up. I found two worms in another new rose pot, and I will continue to view your videos and perhaps you made a video how to create a worm farm and keep them happy until I get my composting going. Thank you so much for your response! Rickylu is one of my rescue Pit Bull's names, my name is Tammy. Mucho gusto!
