You open a box of magic, you can draft and play a game with friends. You open a yugioh box and just pray the secrets are what you need (and maybe a collector rare). There are so many objectively useless cards printed in each rarity it’s absurd, and the reason they are useless is because there is no format to play these useless cards. Hell, there are commons so niche I sometimes question what is the purpose of it. Boxes should be like battle packs but sealed yugioh never had high demand.

10 out of 10 cards In your average Yugioh Pack be like “Postnut Clarity: normal trap If you control a rank 10 Dragon XYZ monster that detached nut buster dragon as material this turn to activate it’s effect: you can search your deck for a monster with the same attribute whose attack equals it’s own Defense (your choice, if tied) but you cannot activate that card or cards with that cards name from your hand (if it was there when this effect resolves.) or graveyard even if not)

The creator of Magic, Richard Garfield, has made many games. A laghe part of Magic's success is because he was able to solve problems without breaking everything. Tings like minimum deck size, playsey limits, ban/limited lists and expansions sets were all ideas he came up with. He showed that you can solve problems in ways that benefit both the company and consumer, you just have to get creative. It makes me sad that Konami basically always chose the easy way to make/sell cards.

Konami power crept themselves into a corner in terms of card design with stuff like Tearlements and Kashtira as the best examples. Cardfight Vanguard did something similar and they had to reboot the game with a standard format where only the new cards could be used and a premium/legacy format where everything can be used. I feel this might be what Yugioh needs to reset the power creep. If not, no one is going play new stuff unless it's as strong or stronger than the old archetypes.
@Rednu Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Cardfight Vanguard's dramatic change but I am familiar with it, and to be fair... I don't think that's the best move either lol. You're not wrong about the other things though, I'm just not sure that THAT'S the solution.

I also really dont like this concept of only like 15% of a set being playable. I also play pokemon and its a little better there cause of the weakness system but still, i feel like its a waste of money and ressources tbh..

I feel like Pokemon has no problem selling cards because people are so in love with the franchise and they are always reselling the same Pokemon, beloved by the game, just with different text and art. The thing about Pokemon is that cards don't need to be "playable" in order for their cards to sell, because the incentives to buy are numerous and exceed simply gameplay. With Yugioh, new archetypes are being made all the time with minimal marketing and without the anime as an incentive to buy them, they are at a significant disadvantage. Pokemon has a huge beginner's market because the game is simple to learn and play, and so I've bought plenty of trial deck products and sets for me and my brother to try out when I was trying to teach him the game. I have never tried to teach my brother Yugioh, I knew without spending more than a second on the thought that he would never be willing to understand it.

sometimes a booster box set only has 1 card being of Value. Most the Legendary Duelist boxes had that issue. Like Synchro Storm just "Baronne" The mako one sometimes people only just want Droplet. Maze neat Guardian Chimera finally got Reprint, Baronne, Accel Stardust some other cards to varying degree. Like the duelist box itself is playable but sometimes people just aren't interest in the archetypes the duelist boxes have and the don't have much value outside of 1 chase card.

Many of these archetypes do exist in the manga which is still holding an interest to the players...in the east. We do not have access to it as easily in the west.

"Anime Format" for anime lovers like Phantom Knights, Predaplant, Fluffal, HERO, Dark Magician, Blue-eyes... AND Battlin' Boxer would be The Bomb for Konami Selling Point as well!! 🎉 Another "Legacy Format" with decks that must have old cards for >2-3years with new supports would be nice like Stellarknight, Superheavy Samurai (Pure), Ninja or even stronger tier decks like Salamangreat... They already have Legendary boxes- all we need now is Konami to OFFICIAL Support and do Marketing for it, pleasee..

The reason the sets don't sell is bc of how random they are. Each new set has a few cards that are relevant to an archetype and the rest are considered bulk. Look at how magic does their sets each set has a mechanic for each color and enough cards in the set to make a deck and use it. Magic also has a standard rotation for these sets so as a new set comes out a set leaves making players change their decks accordingly. Yugiohs biggest problem is that players don't rly ever have to change their decks much a few card here or there bc of a ban list and they basically just keep the same deck. If they would adopt a rotation format where when a new set comes in an old one leaves , do this long enough and the games meta won't be a problem anymore bc it won't stay for long. And sure maybe this won't solve it completely but it would be a huge step in the right direction.

Without the anime, this series will continue to stagnate. The anime built hype for new cards, and made people wanna try things. It gave soul to the game. Now Yugioh is just a soul-less husk that tries to go around squeezing money out of us with it's mediocre and flat out bad packs and sets, with no face behind them. This is why I haven't really tried any new deck type recently..The newest I've played is Traptrix, and even that's old now. Nothing new really grabs my attention, or makes me wanna try it. I honestly feel sorry for Kazuki Takahashi's legacy. It's a shell of what it used to be.

I'll say this: I played DUNE sealed format at the prerelease, and it actually worked quite well. I don't think that would have worked with CYAC, PHHY, or DABL. A lot of the "useless" cards in DUNE were good for a neat limited format, and it made me think that the "useless" cards in a lot of old sets might have been made with that in mind, since sealed used to be officially supported at preleases.

I've never been to a pre-release draft but I do think it's no coincidence how they don't really take off or are regularly played at all outside of those events.

I think there’s not only too many useless cards but too many broken untouchable boss cards that players can cheese out on the first turn that prevent you from responding. Had a guy win a coin toss and cheese out a Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus with 6 unique materials on his first turn then pass. Cards like this should not exist in the first place. He burned all his resources and on the off chance I could have played around it he would have just disconnected anyway.

About Duelingbook. I tried to get my friends to play on it, but it was.... Janky. Sure, they are new to it. Even playing with 2002 era TCG cards was frustrating. They wouldn't even change phases and just target monsters to declare attacks.
@younasdar557210 ай бұрын
I do not think that alternate modes of play would do much for that battlin boxers deck. Time Wizard only works for cards released a long time go back the power creep, well in yugioh its more power warp travel but that doesn't change this. But even besides power warp travel making old cards useless the gap in power between a good deck that might win an event and the next best deck has gotten almost as big as the gap between old and new cards. So the "alternative mode of play" would be a 10K card banlist? or rotation where you rotate all the current meta stuff out and keep that one in?
@Soureika7 ай бұрын
They need a better power balancing or an official sealed format that rotates
@isidoreaerys87458 ай бұрын
Yugioh sucks for sealed because Konami rarity bumps the packs so that the core cards of main set and deck build archetypes are printed at 1 per case. So your odds of building a playable strategy from a single box are 0. And by the time you did open enough packs to make a playable labyrinth/centurion deck your hands will be dry and cracked and your hands suffering from acute arthritis leaving you too physically exhausted to play
@machdude33664 ай бұрын
Rarity does not equate to playability. Tying decks to archetypes is what made yugioh unplayable because suddenly, most cards have no value outside of their immediate purpose. The importance of limited is in cohesion. Some of the most powerful cards in magic are borderline useless in Draft while many cards that never see constructed play thrive only in limited environments. It's all about what you make and unfortunately, yugioh packs aren't collated for playability.
