I must say, I've never heard of a person hating firefighters, paid or unpaid. Since I live really close to NYC, I've met people who complain about paid firefighters which to me is just ridiculous. People seem to think "well I haven't had to be pulled out of a fire yet so, why should they have to be paid?" Personally, I think there should be no such thing as a volunteer firefighter, I understand why people do it but anyone who risks their lives for others should be compensated and appreciated.

I just wanted to say that as of six months to a year ago, my brother (who I made this video for and about) was promoted to Fire Captain! I am so very proud of him and he is truly amazing! I just thought I would say so!

I'm both military and fire fighter/emt and i'm called a hero by alot of people. By definition a hero is "A person who is admired for courage or noble qualities." It takes alot of courage to turn off your common sense and run into a building you know could collapse. To all my brothers and sister in uniform, God Bless and Stay Safe

Good for you. My father was a professional firefighter before I was born, and he was the inspiration for me becoming a firefighter. That was many years ago. One of our sons became a firefighter for several years, and is now a police officer/K-9 offficer/arson investigator. He has made me very proud (as all of our children have) as I hope I did my father, who died in February at the age of 89. I am now a disabled fire Lieutenant-medic & LPN. I wish I could still work, but I cannot. I miss it.

That's totally awesome! I'm very close to a firefighter, we met a year ago now. He never once has complained about anything other than being broke and working tons of overtime to make ends meet. But he wouldn't do anything else. I am disgusted at how little you all are paid to save lives and run into not out of danger of all kinds. Stay safe!

I am now proud to call myself a volunteer firefighter in my area. I just recently graduated from fire school. I want to pursue this as a career now. Ive never thought id like it so much. Everytime that siren goes. It gets my adrenaline going. I love to help pple in time of tragedy. Even if it means dieing. People say ur just a volunteer. My answer is yes i am but i treat this as a job cuz its all im interested in. If u think its easy u should sign up. Bet u will change ur mind after training.

On the line for others. Whether it be to save someone's life, protecting our freedoms or performing jobs in dangerous trades. And one last thing, most firefighters are volunteers, they are not even paid and they still risk their lives. Which discredits your "stats" on dangerous jobs as volunteer deaths are not accounted for. God bless all of our heroes, those in uniforms and blue collars.

I'm also a volunteer, I get picked on at school for being one...they have no idea what its like to be in my shoes. Anytime they say something I tell them "ok well give me your number and I'll call you for the next fire or body recovery and put you to work in the middle of summer with 70+ lbs of gear" and they don't say much after that.
@bobcats33012 жыл бұрын

To all that try to differentiate between volunteer and paid firefighters....don't. The only difference between the two is the area they live in and whether said area is willing to pay the money to maintain a full time department. I have served in both capacities and loved it no matter what. Yes, there are those that have differing views towards one or the other, but we are all brothers regardless.

The firefighter in this video is trained in wildland firefighting as well as many other firefighting/rescue techniques. He is part of the Rapid Intervention Team in his fire department. For those who don't know what the RIT team does...they run into burning buildings after everyone else is ordered out - when a fellow firefighter or civilian is trapped. Additionally, he was just elected assistant chief of his unit... As a parent, I worry about his safety but I am also very, very proud of him!

Ask any logger who has the harder, more dangerous job. Wildland firefighting is considered the most physically demanding job in the United States. Firefighters simply overcome this with training, and a rank based system of tree size that you can fall based on experience. Both exist only barely in commercial tree harvesting. Shit, before they let you saw you have to be a sawyers assistant for a year. That's how seriously safety is taken, and that's why firefighters are so good at their jobs.
