I think George just threw in all these details wayyyyy back when he was writing the first couple of books, never intending to explain them. I seriously doubt we'll ever get an answer or explanation as to why there are buildings, etc. made of black, greasy stone.

Idk very easily could be just an easter egg or an easter egg and something more. There are things he adds in Fire and Blood and TWoIaF that feel very purposeful. Like the fyreworm thing in Fire and Blood seems very intentional. I'm on the fence with the greasy black stones. If it's more than just an Easter egg I still don't think we're gonna get answers, but maybe get some explanations. Like if the show didn't get the origins from George (thats not answered in the books, right. I'm having a moment of show and book blending together) and that was one of many long nights or maybe something came from essos and the children did create them - but way before the first men. Or maybe those people were swallowed up as the dead came through and are part of the others now and were stopped at the location that would become the 5 forts by a dying and now dead race. And the explanation could be as simple as another easter egg. I mean, it would just take someone describing lovecraftian humaniod creatures among the army of the dead and we are left to assume they are probably the people. Or we find out the others are in greasy black stone ruins/buildings/castles frozen over in the lands of always winter and we are left to assume they were the original white walkers and their land stretched all the way to essos before being pushed back by ancient beings. All I know is I will always have way more questions about this world than what [hopefully] will get answered lol I will say: the fyreworms and their immediate death in ice feeling intentional, the ghost grass, the five forts - I do wonder if something of fire is coming from east of the five forts as something of ice is coming from north of the wall. Something that didn't make it past the five forts last time. Or maybe last time wasn't a true long night, just a forced one to protect the land and children from the first men - something maybe the others only do when the fire comes to destroy the land - the children didn't realize their mistake until it was too late. Maybe they were never the enemy, but infact a way the world defends itself from the real enemy. According to everything we know - absolutely nothing survives in ghost grass - including people. People, plants, and animals definitely survived the others. Not many, but way more than none.

The mythical city of K'Dath is apparently a direct reference to Lovecraft lore. The city's inhabitants commit cruel rituals to appease the Dark God's that are connected to the church of the starry wisdom, the black oily stone and bloodstone and the fall of blood star that is referenced by Euron, Melassandra, and the legend of Yi Ti of how the bloodstone emperor brought the long night.

When I read about The Five Forts I assumed that they were very similar to Dragon Glass, sort of like Orthanc in The Lord of the Rings. I also assumed that they were used to guard against The Others. Although I've read that GRRM has stated that the continents aren't connected in the far north, during a long winter, I'd think that surely it would be frozen enough that it could be crossed by White Walkers, unless this story doesn't take place on a globe. And that would be a bit too unconventional, even for me.

My theory how GOT ends (not in order) Jon dies in battle he kills the NK but dies from injuries Daenerys dies in childbirth Jaime dies in Briannes arms Cersi gets killed by Jaime Gendry gets legitimised and becomes Lord of The Stormlands Yara dies and Theon kills Euron and becomes lord of the iron islands Jorah either dies in battle trying to protect daenerys or becomes lord commander of the nights watch Varys and Melasandre die Beric dies fighting a white walker Arya and the hound team up to kill the mountain. the mountain dies by Arya stabbing him on neck with a dagger but the hound dies from injuries. Sam becomes Arch meister Sansa becomes Warden of the North We find out the Bran went back in time and actually built the wall and he's actually bran the builder. All of the dragons die Bronn kills a white walker but gets killed by another. Jon and Daenerys baby becomes king and named Robb Targaryen Tyrion and Davos both become hands of the king We find out the Night King was a Stark Grey worm dies protecting Missandei. Podrick becomes a Kings guard Kings landing burns to the ground ending in ruins and covered in snow Thanks for reading.

@@grokeffer6226 @Final Generation I walk you through it. Jon was resurrected he was on borrowed time. He was brought back to defeat the night king when he defeats the night king he will die. Since season 1 Daenerys has said she wants the throne and the viewers have seen it shoved down our throats but it's obvious she will never get it. Jaime said he wants to die in the arms of the woman he loves. you have seen through out the show he gradually started to dislike Cersi and started to love Brianne. When Cersi met a witch when she was a kid the witch said she would have 3 kids and would be killed by one of her brothers. She always thought it would be Tyrion that's why she never trusted him but I think it will be Jaime. There's no Baratheons left and the Storm lands has no lord so Gendry has to to take over. Euron will obviously kill Yara. Theon Will kill Euron and Will finally redeem himself by being Lord of the iron islands. Jorah Will not survive he has always said he would die protecting Daenerys and I think he will. Melasandre has already said she and Varys will both die. Beric has already died 6 times but 7 is a common number in Game of thrones and he will die one more time. We know The hound and mountain will fight each other for the hound to win is too predictable so I think Arya will help but both brothers die. Sam becoming Arch Meister is obvious. Sansa becoming Warden of the North is obvious we were shown how good she was at it in Season 7. The original Stark and builder of the walk was named Brandon Stark is that a coincidence or not we have already seen Bran influence the past with Hodor. All of dragons will definitely die they can't survive the world needs to be balanced. Bronn will do well in battle and finally show he's honourable and doesn't care about money or himself but will sadly die. Jon and Daenerys will definitely have a baby Remember the dothraki witch said only life pays for death that's why when her dragon died she can now have 1 child and i think it will be named Robb. Tyrion and Davos will both definitely survive we have seen through out the whole show how they are so good at being hands and how they love it and I think they both get the job. The Night King was definitely a Stark that's why when his army got past the wall you can see a wolf's head from the army. Grey worm has always said Missandei makes him weak I think none of the unsullied survive including him Podrick had said he's always dreamed of being a knight and I think he will at the end. Daenerys had a vision of Kings landing in ruins Also Bran had a vision with a dragon flying over kings landing what if that's the Night Kings dragon destroying Kings landing. Thanks for reading.

I think these mythical cities and creatures beyond the Five Forts may be not so supernatural. However, there are some truth to them: 1. K'Dath. I think this is true about what they say people are doing there. Like the Faith Militant, only worse. 2. Land of the Shrykes. Wildling tribes wearing lizard clothing so invaders think they are monsters. Also, expert in making shrieking sounds. 3. Cannibal sands. It's natural these people are cannibals so nothing new. 4. The Grey Waste. Another wildling tribe like the ones beyond The Wall. 5. Bonetown. A city decorates itself with bones from animals and humans. 6. City of the Bloodless men. People are maybe naturally pale there. Maybe some black and dark magic going on. 7. City of Winged men. Maybe people there are wearing paragliding capes, that makes them able to fly. 8. Lion of The Night. I'm tempted to say the Lion is somehow connected to The Great Other and White Walkers. The Lion Of The Night may be The Great Other in disguise and the Blood Emperor somehow summons him. So the demons and creatures that attacked Essos may be similar to wights. Desert zombies, shadow creatures, evil dragons and dark soldiers with a lion head as their commanders? All of them are a part of The Great Other armies.
