It is always a treat to see these geometric solutions.

Proper fit-up includes cleaning your metal. Even tacking over rust will ruin your steel. You put in all that work measuring, cutting, and calculating. Only to completely ruin it with a contaminated weld.

I will remember that. I want to learn welding, I bought a welding book at a thrift store for ($5.00) which turned out to retail for $200, even used it was pricey. Then I stumbled upon a brand new welding mask for $10.00 at an Amazon closeout store. I look at these blessings as the Universe guiding me in the right direction 😁.

@Eliz2011abc women make the best welders. That's not ass kissing either. They have a closer eye for detail, and Naturally steady hands. There's alot of intricacies to welding that can be hard to cover in a single text. If you want to work as a welder, learning how to mig weld is your best bet. I'd also get a book that can teach blueprint reading. Most high end fabricators will make you take the blueprint reading test before they even consider bringing you in for a weld test. Tig welding pays the most, but is also the most unforgiving. Learn mig, and you'll be golden.

Learn to weld with a torch and rods. Then you'll know how to manipulate your hands, and the torch. It is basic welding. Then go to Arc Welding. Practice. Then to MIG welding, with and without flux core. Then on to TIG. ALL POSITIONS FOR EACH TYPE OF WELDING. When you can weld in all positions, with all types, and go to get a job, you can say "i came to take the job you advertised." $$$$.

He does alot of things that make me think he either has no formal training, or works on shipping containers exclusively. I personally would get fired for wasting time, material, and contaminating welds if I did stuff like this.

To new welders: Welding over Rust, paints, and galvanized materials create toxic gasses. The best way to spare your lungs, is to clean your metal. Safety should be a welders first concern. Also, contaminants will be seen during non-destructive testing.

Better but I’d prefer to see some rivets taking the shear and some bracing taking the bend…
