Nice gold Dan. Did Tom tell you about the Persian dougnuts from Thunder Bay? I bought them another box for the trip home LOL. Reg and Tom ate 6 of them the night they stayed here on the way out to you, and they are not small LOL. Reg gave me a container of the cons they got during their trip out there and it's FULL of fine gold. I've been using that material to teach my crews how to pan the tough stuff a few teaspoons at a time. We have a small vial with about 200+ little flakes and colours in it now with lots left to process.

I would love to come out to one of your claims. I bought a pan and I've tried in Wisconsin. Not the greatest day. There is some gold but it's fine and very scarce. At the same time we workied the outer edge. Not the inner. But watching you has made me smarter. I hope we can go out together. Even if it's on the free river. Thanks Dan for all your insight. I find all of this so interesting. I love your videos. I am thinking of doing some paint videos. I do cars. I wetsand and buff scratches, most places won't do it. Because the don't want to be liable if they burn the clear. I've been doing it for around 25 years so, I have a unique skill.

It also makes me more inclined to buy gems and such from you, since this way I know it's been gathered in a minimally impactful way! Also, I assume you had some sorta light but a headlamp for those late evenings would probably be helpful!

Another great video that caused my light bulb to turn on. Having seen many old workings and tunnels in my teens near by my Dad's mine (Cariboo) old picks, shovels, sluce boxes etc was seen. The main mode of transport in that time was a Jack Ass or a Pack Mule. It took a lot of time and strength to bring in what was needed to mine. No chain saws back then so timbers were cut by axe. The Old Miner who worked the claim before my Dad lived in town about 40 miles away from the claim. So it makes sense that once the equipment was at a working mine, why carry it back home every year when they were coming back the following year? So that could be why you may find old equipment?

Pickerton looks like a great place for a goldrush-nugget-bucket, given the terrain and the fact in past videos you've mentioned that it's a bit of a hike to get down there, lugging a highbanker and a gas pump seems like a pain....might be worth looking into a nugget bucket

Ok you gold picker love it. Have a task for you when you get bored ! Gather a Black Light (think posters...) and a Sterile lamp (barbers use them) [ electric supply companies] and the Barbars is danger to eyes !!! It is short wave UV and Black light is Long Wave. Job is Luminescence of Minerals - I have a Geological Survey Bulletin 1052-C 1958 (US Printing office) 157 pages. But back to work - Look at your site at night and see if gold bearing glows ! Might be green or red but might stand out. Might be the host rock that indicates that has gold or silver in rocks... Have my copy and lamps for over 50 years ! Long time rocker. Martin

Have you ever seen the videos of the back country hiking tour companies that use goats to pack gear? It is amazing how ordinary farm goats can scurry over rocks and logs while wearing saddle bags. If you ever find a claim and think, "That claim looks interesting, but there is no way I could pack equipment in there" you might consider borrowing some goats.

So 2 questions and I'm not sure if you can/would want to share the answers. I fully understand if you don't. Do you make enough prospecting to live off of, or is it more of a passion work? I'm definitely not in a place in life I could do much prospecting, but it does look like a fun hobby. Second question, and this is really the one I fully understand if you can't/don't want to disclose. Do you make more from prospecting or KZbin? I know I'm probably just being nosey, but I've always been a curious person. Please don't take offense from my questions, like I said I fully understand and can appreciate if you don't feel comfortable disclosing any of that information. I love your videos and infectiously positive attitude!

Dan I just went to the Petaluma River, way too much grass and it has mud. Mud is a clay layer, but it didnt pan well. I kept seeing yellow dots, but i would get them on my finger and none were gold. I tried three amateur times on a terrible slope, its not an actual river its a todal slough or something. I live by the american river, but just the gas. I was kinda rushing it too, i brought a huge spoon and no shovel. I wanted to snipe for gold instead, but the petaluma river is very deep, probably has sting rays too.
@apertureonline9566 Жыл бұрын
At first, I just typed the river into Google, so it had me go to private property. When it comes to your dream claim, I think you allow gold panning correct? You just don't allow dredging or other things without a permit, while they camp out there.
@apertureonline9566 Жыл бұрын
I have never seen this happen to you dan, there's tons of roots in the mud, I even got a caterpillar in my pan. Not a river... no sand, steep cliffs. Could even have sharks tbh
@apertureonline9566 Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen you dredging often, I've seen you say panning can even be profitable but being realistic about it. I see the point of the permits for this reason. If I'm not mistaken though, aside from filling up your holes I'm not sure there's rules against panning from one of your claims. I just saw at the river, large dredging probably from the city. Idk it's for gold, they said its for other reasons. I could think about how we'd want to preserve the smaller cap expeditions. A house is not a mining claim. I'm not entirely sure though.
@apertureonline9566 Жыл бұрын
On the positive side, you can gold snipe and I feel it's not only more ethical but more effective. No permits are required. Idk if they'd restrict gold based actions in a river that's essentially public, some people may own certain areas but it's a very big river, it's deep. Sluicing, I mean getting a permit isn't that hard you know? Just get a permit. Sniping is like on the top and most don't go for it. Doesn't ruin the land so much.
@apertureonline9566 Жыл бұрын
I am afraid to dive in the petaluma river. We have the American River so idk that it matters, but the petaluma river was a great example of what doesn't work. The clumps were so heavy my tests were bad.i tried crushing them, it's mud. Clay is similar tbh, but I don't have a sluice or highbanker
@amandapittar9398 Жыл бұрын
I love watching your videos. I will admit to slight anxiety as you pan into that river…it would just take one slip. … then you talk about 🐻, for goodness sake! Your wife must really love you to know that you will take care and not take silly risks. You make it look deceptively safe and carefree on your claim, I’m sure it’s not. You certainly earn your metals and your gems. I would love to see some of the jewelry made from the stunning landscape rocks you source. Fun video, Thankyou 😊

Hi Dan, Newfoundland here. Question; At 8;30 or so you are pointing at the crevice you were talking about. I notice the river bend and that you are in a high-pressure zone. Is that correct or is it just the camera angle. If so, and you are getting good gold I wonder what is on the other side of the river in the low-pressure zone.
