Drinking a beer calms down my nervous system. However, alcohol is not a good solution for calming myself down. I must learn how to calm my mind without using drugs or alcohol. It takes time - months. But that's fine because calming the mind is possible - it can be done.

not sure if you're seeking advice, but yeah you're right. for me, a few months of boxing and later Muay Thai classes have had a calming effect on me that I've never experienced from anything else. I think martial arts are underrated for this

Everything is happening exactly how it is supposed to happen. If it wasn't, it would be happening differently.
@TINE-14-k4r2 ай бұрын
this isn't particularly helpful or even a realistic thing to hear when what's happening is horrific abuse, be it physical, sexual or otherwise. Imagine saying that to a child who was hurt by a parent. "It happened because it was supposed to" would be no different to them than telling them they deserved it or needed it. No, it happened bc a terrible person made terrible choices with their free will, and it infringed upon the wellbeing of another human being, Things aren't supposed to happen, they just do, by chance or by willful action. It's not a coin toss or even predetermined. Just bc things happen because we live life doesn't mean it was supposed to happen, it just did, and that makes it no less reprehensible, wrong, moral or ethically dubious, frustrating, etc. You may accept that it happened and it was unavoidable thru a series of dominos, but that doesn't mean it was SUPPOSED to occur and that disliking it is the point of suffering rather than the thing happening at all.

Advaita “teachers” who advocate “self inquiry” or the “ direct path method” often dismiss mediation as mere concentration leading merely to temporary cessation of mind , “ manolaya”. Only self inquiry leads to permanent cessation or “ manonasa” they say.

Silly question...what if we've had bad habits for a while - eating, stressing, not always sleeping right, etc and there is a possibility that disease has already manifested as a result even though there are no obvious symptoms. Can we do this work and get in alignment along with correcting those bad habits to heal the possible illness before it becomes an issue? The reason I ask this is because I strongly believe that once the medical establishment gets their hands on you and diagnoses you, then you're at their mercy.
@_Royalfool_3 ай бұрын
So you won’t do it unless it has immediate results? You’ll never relax with expectations. Do the work, you’ll be alright. You take your habits after death anyhow, better to change them now
@brushstroke37332 ай бұрын
I think the answer is yes. The body is very capable of healing and recovering if the imbalances that cause the illness are removed. Stress seems to be one of the primary imbalances involved in most chronic disease.

How do you prevent falling asleep while meditating
@bjarkenielsen85156 күн бұрын
Sit in an undisturbed place with no movement (cars and people walking by etc) and open your eyes and look at a spot 1-2 meters on the floor in front of you. Don't focus on the spot, instead let your gaze be unfocessed while looking at it. Also, get more sleep on a regular basis.

How disappointing to have adverts constantly throughout the meditation and information sessions 😢 I guess it’s all about $$$

I pay for youtube subscription so all videos I watch are ad free. It's only like $14 a month. I don't have any other subscriptions so it's well worth it IMO. Try it amd you will see things way differently. I just discovered this channel and it may not be about money as he has small subscribers 5k maybe it is AI and yt puts ads on videos.

2 minutes in and it is obvious this man has little to no understanding of actual trauma biology and somatic knowledge. Peter Levine, Bessel van der Kolk, Stephen Porgess and Gabor Maté, to name a few, will be exellent sources of teaching. The spiritual bypassing and functional freeze of the vagus nerve isn't something that meditation will heal in many cases of complex ptsd, just the opposite in fact.
@ZenPsych Жыл бұрын
I beg your pardon. I studied with Gabor Mate' and learned his approach and I am quite aware of the contemporary theorists. As a practicing psychologist for 50 years I think I have the right to have a view on this subject. The release of congested energy can be accomplished by many techniques and practices and this occurs in present time with a practice of relaxing the body and calming the mind, as well as having a clear experience of the reality of awareness as the true natural state. Don't be so ready and willing to attack what is different from your limited view and knowledge.
@M-i-k-a-e-l Жыл бұрын
@@ZenPsych No attack coming from here and you don't know anything about how limited or wide my knowledge is. I just adressed what you said in your video and it can be utterly harmful for many people with complex ptsd.
