There is a REAL HAZARD here, watch to learn what and where that is! This Texas Hill Country dive spot has really interesting features that we enjoyed discovering as well as amazing cliffs, overhangs, and grottos. Check out an old mysterious truck that we found and even a sunken sailboat.

Love this video! Not sure if your local or have seen canyon lake recently but I think a video about how low it is with footage would be awesome might bring some awareness to people and developers over pumping and draining the lake. It’s a sad sight to see. No rain doesn’t help obviously but the over drawing is awful! Wonderful video though!
@scottbauerbelow

Thank you! It is sad to see the lake so low but keep in mind it was man made and put there so we can pump water from the lake as opposed to over pumping the aquifer underground which is a huge concern to wildlife and our natural springs

I’m loving these videos on your local sites. It motivates me to make a series of Missouri dive sites. They wouldn’t be artsy and well shot like yours but I’d like to showcase what the show-me state has to offer. From mines, caves, wrecks, and lakes we have quite a few wonders around us.

I've been down there to about 85 - 90 feet, Witnessed a big 40# striper. I was diving Medina lake near the dam at about 80' (40 years ago ) and we got into some different looking clear dark green water. We could hear a roaring noise and knew we were at the mouth in the damn outlet at the bottom. Scary stuff.

This is interesting.. I always think of the dangerous parts of dams to be near the "intake towers" or other very visible things that are known for danger. But what you are describing is Medina dam does not have this and there was some type of water intake near the bottom of the dam and on the structure itself... I find dams very interesting but I would never dive near them.... there should be a dam safety class :)

@colebierplease8448
@colebierplease8448 3 күн бұрын
@@scottbauerbelow He probably means Horseshoe Falls downriver from the spillway. Before the 2002 flood, it was about 8 feet tall falls and people did drown there on occasion. The flood carved the “gorge” and filled in the falls to where it is now only about 2 feet high. I have a section on it on the video “Guide to the Guadelupe River from the spillway to the horseshoe” on my channel if you want to see it. Be well

We used to take huge rocks and jump off by the damn and see how far down we could get at Canyon Lake. One time I was going down fully extended with the rock in my hands and something the size of a small cow ran into me. I was huge and slimy and I assume was a catfish but I didnt stick around to find out. I literally walked on water back to my friends and have never swam near the dam again. A small cow you say? YES I was a 200 lb varsity baseball player in very good shape and this thing pushed me under water like I was nothing It was so heavy and solid that to this day 28 years later I believe there is or maybe some animals in that lake over 500 lbs.

Yeah it does but I would imagine you wouldn’t be able to get off of the grate lol, these dives were all from July through august and a dry suit works great because the temps are in the 60s below the thermocline but I was fine in my 5mm…it’s pretty warm up top…it’s a great spot to dive you should check it out…just avoid the building on the ridgeline lol
