Another option is to increase the number of retrofits and special augments to make more ships more relevant. Obviously they aren't gonna retro or specaug URs, but some of those ships getting buffed are turned into gold.

Even up until now a lot of retrofits brings the ship to "viable" status and not "meta" status. Even if someone like Prinz Eugen gets an augment and retrofit that turns her into an unkillable machine, I would still use someone like Agir or Anchorage over her. So we need more content with more fleets to bring even those ships (retrofitted or augmented) up to chance of seeing sunlight.

I'm just saying they can be less scared of "power creeping" currently less meta ships in the game, and since they are obviously less shy about releasing URs, they should be less gun shy on buffing older ships, too. Or even doing a full-on patch of the ships with the generally considered useless skills.

In arknights they have a mode where you can start with only a certain cost worth of characters. Commons cost nothing, while URs cost a lot. So you can only start out with 1 UR or 3 Uncommons. A similar mode would give low rarity ships a purpose.

I still use Sr ships in os, but mainly because I like to create teams that are all in the same faction. I only have one fleet in os that I use for boss fleets that are mainly made with URs.

From a new player's perspective, I agree with the points raised. It feels kind of bad knowing that the ships I'm currently using are basically all just placeholders until I can get the meta stuff from reruns, events and PR. Also I just wanted to point out, they already have the ability to use other players' ships from your guild mates during the guild boss fights, so I imagine it wouldn't be that difficult to extend that to friend lists during some kind of events or new game mode. Another option would be to have some modes or maps where there is a UR cap - like restricted to one per fleet or something like that. It would have a similar effect of making players use the older ships more, and possibly shake up the meta since it wouldn't just be stacking UR's and cross barrages for that content.

I have a couple of ideas right out of the gate: 1. Ratios: Create a mode where each rarity has a ratio weight, for example, grays are 0, Blues 1, Purples 2, Yellows 3 and URs 5 and have the teams have a ratio limit, for example, you can´t exceed 15 points for each fleet. This would force people to exchange the raw power and utility of URs for a more balanced team. It would encourage synergies and experimentation in my opinion. 2. Bigger fleets. Kind of what Blue Archive did in their latest mode where you can make teams of 6 strikers and 4 supports to tackle the mode (instead of the 4-2 that has been used since the game creation). Sure, battles would become insane with bullets, planes, skills and whatnot soaring back and forth, while also having to increase the number of enemies and/or their strength to compensate. I dunno, I feel it would be too chaotic but also really fun to see and play around, truth be told tho, I am sure this kind of mode could possibly overwhelm many phones and users.

These arn't bad ideas, but I would pose some counter points. 1. It is not encouraging synergies and experimentation. It is forcing players to use them. If you create restrictions, players must adhere to those restrictions. It's the entire problem of faction synergies. They do not actually elevate or enhance ships and fleets. The hard truth is that they restrict fleet flexibility and force arbitrary limitations through fulfilling requirements. This is a problem Manjuu has been dealing with since the game started, and while they have found creative work arounds, it's still a long lasting problem that can't be addressed. 2. Bigger fleet isn't impossible, but it has to be for future content. The issue is that then we would need content that would require us to use larger fleets. Like you mentioned, a lot of phones would probably overheat, and that's the least of the problem. Making content that expects us to use 4-6 backline and 4-6 frontline, changes the game a lot. I mean a whole lot, because more backlines equal WAY more damage intervals and sources. Could you imagine running 4 CVL healers and 1 BB. the 4-6 vanguard would also be the same, with the power of torp bursting on bosses, and the ridiculous amount of CB burst you could have. The content required to match our enlarged fleets, would be insanely stupid by having weird gimmicks, or Pidgeon hole us into very specific fleets or ship choices.

Maybe in certain game modes, like Operation Siren and Meta Showdown, we transcend the 3x3 fleets and use 4x4 or even more to utilize what we have. We have A LOT of units that get benched.

Honestly I just grind units to 120 and leave them in the dock; Even my best fleets haven't really changed much over the last year (Musashi, York, Helena, and some others have been basically in use since I got them, while others just get insta benched upon 120 or 125). Bigger fleet sizes would help me out in using more units I don't usually do (outside of the 120 fleet tech grind).

One thing I dislike of this game, which I've been playing for a few years now, is actually having to manually work through content. I want to be able to auto or skip through all content at all times. What's the problem with allowing that? A new stage pops up, I have to click through every last battle 25 times to get to 3 stars instead of running this shit in the background.

You can auto them. You can just auto everything, but only the final 2 chapters and sp, which isn't recommended for auto when first doing them or not completely maxed out, but you most definitely can auto literally almost everything in the game.

In arknights they came up with a rogue like mode where you can only select characters based on a rarity cost. You can only afford to start with 1 UR character and 2 commons. Or 3 uncommons. Makes any low rarity characters more desirable, if they can do the job. And it makes the characters of that rarity in competition with others in the same bracket.

Most of my sorties are grinding events at D3 or grinding gold at 12-4. Neither of these maps need meta fleets, so I literally just use girls I want level up and sometimes I don’t even bother equipping them properly. I guess what I’m saying is that I barely do content that requires meta fleets, so it’s not a big deal to me, at least

Yeah I agree with you. I am a 5 years AL player with all the UR ship but I dont bother to do end game stuff like World 13 and above. I dont care what Kimo say about New Jersey, Aquila and Drake. I love their skin and love seeing them in action lauching barrage and bombers in game. It is also very nice seeing Drake in her bikini when she MVP a battle. Not all the UR skin are to my taste. I see Waifu skin, I buy and use it!

I think something like how Pokemon Go does their PVP could work for a game mode in Azur Lane. Rotating content that bars certain ships for certain weeks. Say for a certain month the mode is Rare Only, Elite Only, Royal Navy only, etc. Obviously that alone won't be enough there needs to be incentive for players to want to actually put recourses to build such ships to do this content, but if they could pull it off, it makes it so that there isn't only one Meta in the game. In POGO certain Pokemon are good for GBL but are terrible for raids.

Your idea sounds nice, however now that we have a lot of UR ships of almost every faction, we could also implement some type of boost to fleets that are all from one faction. A thing I don't like about the game rn is that your better having a bunch of ur ships of different factions than ships on the same one, if we implement this "boost" some ssr ships will gain their relevence again and the gap beteween the mid to end game will be reduced due to a new player not needing all the broken ur ships that are launching. The meta would be like in the early years of the game where there were some factions that were clearly better than others, but at least you could pick one and ball with it.

I wonder if a challenge mode similar to "least tiers" from Bloons TD6 (use the least amount of upgrades to clear a stage, for AL it could be fleet power or lowest rarity) could provide a chance to make non-UR ships shine a bit more and a different challenge than the usual best-in-slot ship. But I also agree that having more slots/fleets would be good to reduce the power creep. Fielding multiple fleets definitely requires a lot of resources, so maybe the "challenge" should also be scalable to let everyone have a chance, though.

I would love a multi team conquest mode. Meaning you need to build many teams that can only attack once. Example, there's 5 (or more) bosses: north, south, east, west and a bigger central boss. one team can only attack once. unlike OS where one team can clear everything (makes having 4 teams not necessary) I just hate getting all these ships and they all just sit on the bench.

I think it would be cool if there was a weekly challenge where you need one fleet for each day and you can see ahead of time what each fleet will be fighting and reorder the fleets to best match the scenario. You can't use the same ship more than once. That gives you 7 fleets with a total of 42 ships in some epic fleet action.

Ive got over 400 ships at lv 120. I wish they made a gamemode restricts fleets based on rarity so I can use meme fleets. Give us an event where you are locked with Kongou's and Mutsuki class ships only. Or just anything like this. I have the ships at lv 120 anyway and want to push them out of their port at least once a year so I can remember what they can do. Instead of locking a slot with BB/CV/DD etc only, lock it based on character/ship class.

URs becoming the new SSR was my concern when developers announced 4 URs. Many early UR/DRs are rendered useless. Drake and Warspite are laughing stocks for UR. While more retrofits would be helpful, it's just making the ships viable for a short time. When the Tempesta event, I really liked the EX because it no longer meant spam URs with good gear. You actually had to use frigates to beat the game. 1. Game mode that I have to use a certain ship to beat the level. 2. Game mode with restrictions on rarity or total rating combined. The game gives you the maximum stat the fleet can't surpass, so people have to use lower rarity ship with a similar function. 3. Team chemistry system, a very common feature in sports game, would be a great way to revive not frequently used ships. If certain combinations are used, those ships would be greatly buffed. 4. Ship of the week system for each rarity would be a great system to give an incentive for people use underutilized ships. Ship of the week would get more stats in all game modes except exercise.

A new game mode could also add "buffs" such as if from X faction Y buff, or if certain hull ship +/- X buff. Also some sort of rarity threshold which means if X rarity is % of points, if points are above a certain threshold you lose Y amount of "buff" based on hull of a ship (each hull would have its own buff). They would also need to change conditions every X period of time so that people cannot make tier lists and inspires a sense of discovery on the user. Min-maxers will obviously try their hardest to tier ships, but it will be much more difficult and time consuming to do so in the general sense. You can spin this in many ways and it would be fun as hell.

How many years have I been playing this game, I always wondered why 3 ships in front and 3 in the back are absolutely always used, and there are no more restrictions, only this strange crap on hard mode. Why don’t they make events and maps where there are for example only Americans, or just a crowd of cruisers, or why is their division into tiers of ships(that one in fleet technology) not used in any way, so that you can take ships no higher than tier 5 for example. In a game where there are so many classes and nations, it’s a terrible omission not to do this

Like what if you had an event that restricts URs & SSRs, only allowing for SRs and below ships from either Eagle Union and Sakura Empire; that would be cool, and would incentivise people to use SRs and even grind/built them. Now I don't think they should just do it without reason. I was thinking the story can use that. It's similar to say how the animes do it. In the animations, there are literally all kinds of ships. Common to URs. They can add a bit more immersion to the story. Like you are commanding these girls in real time. I believe they have done this already with mini events example the bullies and Lil-shipgirls. They can also add a variety of stages with different settings. Though I feel like I'm asking like triple A type of stuff there though 😆

I have 3 fleets, with the back-line being mainly UR, and the vanguard being SSR, and UR if applicable. I only spend MYABE an hour a day on each day, and most of that is just building up supplies, so I usually dont worry about the meta, like I don't worry about the meta to the point that my current IJN vanguard has Ise & Hyuga (leveling them up & increasing affinity). if I did have to reccomend something to add on though, I've seen comments kind of touch on this allready for fleet buffs, but instead of having 2 or 3 fleets, and maybe a few carriers off in the distance, why not have entire fleet action groups? Like having the fast-battleships & battlecruisers "ahead", your main fleet screen, supply ships (because at this point what purpose do they serve?), your main battle line/carrier strike force, then ships built for ASW bringing up the rear, and have these built around a faction or two? It's not like there aint examples of the US & UK doing this IRL. We're coming up on the 80th anniversary of D-day crying out loud. That was a fleet action supporting a landing, buy grunts, and Spec Ops, done by both the US, and UK. And that's leaving out convoys, navel engagements, etc. Why not have something like that in Azur Lane?

Idea to make slightly older ships more relevent: Have modes that restrict you to 1 single fraction and restrict ship class. Example: Royal Navy BB/BBV main fleet: now you can use monarch Howe and vanguard. Lets say theyre high-ish AA too so you toss in Scylla, Drake, and Plymouth (in case u dont have much of fraction u can use others but theyll preform bad).

I use faction fleets, and some of my primary fleets are years old, but they get the job done in all content. I have been using Enterprise since the first day I got her when I started 5 years ago as my flagship of my boss killing fleet, and I don't foresee that changing any time soon. Also, I really don't see the point of saying something like "New Jersey isn't as good as Soyuz and you shouldn't use her" Who cares? She still has abundant stats that with the same equipment can adequately clear any content. It's not like NJ is suddenly incapable of completing end game content. The power creep doesn't make these old ships unusable at all. The game is not so difficult that using a shipgirl that isn't "OMG THIS IS TOP TIER SUPER META" is going to prevent you from clearing content.

I've been wanting a roguelike similar to the arknights one that lets you build fleets during your run, and if you get a BB for example, you get yo choose between x number of owned ships. This comes with some problems however, like duplicates, that we have 600+ ships or that there are many "useless" ships, but I, after 3+ years hoping for gamemode like this, think this could work with some thought put into it.

I always suggest in yostar feedback to change OPS where you could (non obligatory) use specific factions and specific hulls (like Hard events stages requirements), meeting the requirements give you extra rewards also special gear with special effects that are faction and hull lock to give extra power to weak ships all this to encourage players to use different ships in a productive way

I wouldn't mind a game mode with stages with a Rarity cap. They don't necessarily have to be try hard stages. Just having the incentive to use ships up to a certain rarity could be interesting. Of course the main problem is dock space, since most players retire low rarity ships to accommodate SSR and UR.

Scalable gear, stronger for lower rarities and less for higher, more retros and maybe something like augments but limited to say 12 per player that heavily increases stats for ships depending on level

I had a discussion on this topic with some guildmates that most ships are irrelevant now there is no good reason to use anything beside ssr and Ur ships. My solution was to create a gamemode named something like incursion or expedition where the content can only be done with ships present inside the monthly whitelist (make up some excuse like it's inside a mirror sea and we couldn't take everyone) which would force players to find new interesting compositions for their fleets and play around with ships that have been long powercreeped or simply feft by the way side. To compensate for new players yostar could implement an incursion specific gacha pool with ships from the whitelist, have "yostar" prebuilt ships or let you borrow from your from your friends or guildmates. To prevent things from getting overly hard or straight up impossible because of whitelist containing too many weak ships their could be some ships that are always present in every pool no matter what.

I am definitely for more game modes that requires multiple fleets of up to 5-10 fleets. 10 fleets is like 60 ships right there. There has to be creative ways to use all 600+ ships that we have in the game.

I was thinking of the story modes having unique settings. Notice how in the animes there are literally a ton of different ships from common to UR ships? They can make the story a whole lot more immersive by making it somewhat realistic. For example, this event, these girls were in the story, made a mode that had them preset in the fleets and left the other slots out or to specific classes or rarities. That would give players a way to use something very different. They can also add different things like a requirement for ASW or whatever. Something that for sure changes from the norm. Some ships have very niche abilities. I mean, there are many ways to change how the game plays

Should make it so that you can only have 1 UR per fleet, or one per main and vanguard. This would make it so that you would still want to summon SSRs

Also I think getting a ship is the least of my worries, I don’t have much time to play this game and getting a ship raid ready takes me months, if I can borrow a max ship would save me a lot of trouble

Arknights and blue archive have modes where unit variety/number is rewarded more than raw unit power. Random modes, rogue-likes, having a limited resource to assemble a fleet etc. for example in arknight's IS mode, you can only use 6 hope total- do you spend it all on a SINGLE UR equivalent? Or a team of 3 of varying SR/SSR/uncommon? Combined with random buffs and items, it makes some runs where lower rarity units are a must.

Using more fleets is a good idea, for new players there can be lower level requirements. To implement this there could be a new difficulty for all maps - call !Fleet engagments! for example- where you would use 2-3 fleets for basic battles and 4-6 for bosses. Then have Hard versions with 6-8 fleest for basic battles and 10-16 for bosses. Victory of fleet in battle stage would give some buffs and loses some debuffs, stages would get progresively harder. The only issue I see in a system like this is making the rewards worth it, because this would be a huge time commitment.

what i dont really like is that in the event pulls there are no more rare or common ones like in the one IB event with the many common z destroyer. I actually like playing uncommon ships bcs they neednt much oil but i guess they arent rly appreciated overall

Borrow a ship for a cross fleet skill would be so fucking good, like borrow kazagumo for her air raid buff, this skill isn’t a cross fleet but they can make it work this way too

I say make a game modes where only rares are used, elites can be used, as well as SSR. A game mode that is elite only would make those shipsthe main focus but also make a meta for them since we are always getting new elites every banner and the same can be said for the rest

I'd like to see something like the epic seven tower (probably done in other games too) where specific ships or ship types are given massive bonuses in a timed event/mission. IE you might be doing really hard content where british ships get +300% stats. Maybe it even boosts only rare ships of a certain faction by a massive amount so a rare ships is stronger than a UR?

I'm not really a fan of double UR event. I can't afford to have 8 UR bulins so I'm always forced to get multiple copies of the UR ship.

The problem is its not like you can't use certain fleets, and the game doesn't exactly force you to use UR ships or just meta in general. All content has a specific strategy that you may need to run. Every event that comes out i still to this day, run, literally rare to UR ships. So although "powercreep" exists. It doesn't suddenly mean every ship before is obsolete. If i to this day can still run a new jersey or whatever ship that replaced and still be successful, that means that they can still be effectively used without any issue. So the issue isn't that the meta needs to be changed. The variety of events needs to be changed accordingly. Some ships have niche abilities that are only good for literally 1 chapter. (Which is quite a few). But most run about the same exact abilities that either need another ship to work or faction. We need some submarine warfare. We need different AIR to AIR combat rounds. A more unqiue story mode where a specfic fleet is needed during battle while another fleet is fighting somewhere else. Change up the rarity based on how they tell the stories. Example: Lets say a group is sent for supplies? Run a full fleet of DDs at night with ASW equipment. Its not the ships. (Though some can use a buff or rework), its main events are the exact same every time, which doesn't require you to swap to anything else. You just end up auto everything.

When I first started azur lane I assumed UR ships were flagships that acted as heads of their factions and gave specific buffs to either their faction or ship type Come to find out theyre just better ships and I can use as many as I want which makes rp and themed fleets feel inherently less powerful

Runaway power creep caused by URs is a huge problem, but it's irrelevant at the UR level itself. It's no different from the SSR days. The minmaxer was always going to use the incrementally more powerful ship, not because it actually matters, but because they feel compelled to use the absolute best option at all times. Alsace may unseat Soyuz for a minmaxed fleet, but in no way is anyone disadvantaged for using her, when she's still stronger than 99% of the ships in the game. Same with New Jersey, who is still leagues ahead of any SSR option. And that's the real problem... URs are the only ships that matter now, no matter the power gap within their rarity. And because the only real solution is a stat crunch, skill revisions, and fixing the game's rampant use of percentage multipliers, that problem is never going to be solved. New challenges that restrict ship usage are a nice band-aid to get commanders experimenting with ships they normally don't or have stopped using, and something that is honestly long overdue considering the gigantic roster of shipgirls that don't see a single sortie these days. Rarity, faction, and ship class restrictions would all be very nice things to have to work around. Maybe have a whole list of fleetbuilding handicaps you can choose from to earn a higher score or more rewards, like the EX raid stages. Any kind of mode at all that defies UR supremacy and lends gameplay importance to having all of these other ships is desperately needed to keep the game interesting.

I didnt have a lot of resources for this event and just gave up on the UR, the power creep is to much, to many URs and I have like a billion boats I never use.

There is another threat looming in the horizon that they will have to deal with eventually: currently we have around 25 rainbow ships (between URs and PRs etc). That is 1/4 of the base amount of dock space you get when you start. The game will eventually get to a point where a player will have to decide which UR ship to scrap in order to get a different one. This will happen way before we reach the 101st UR as players will have their own list of favorites they wouldn't scrap for anything, there are some SSR meta ships we keep for content clearing, and trying to build ships during an event with less that 10 slots available is a human rights violation. At that point, the ones who are willing to spend will extend their dock space and the ones who are adamant about remaining f2p will just quit altogether (actually I have a feeling the ones who don't buy dock space inevitably end up quitting much earlier, as the main pull of this game is collection and we have like 5-6x the amount of characters compared to the initial amount of dock you get). This dead end they are driving into is all because of the dock space, a relic of the time when they followed the trend of other old, obsolete systems like kantai collection and girls frontline. In those games it actually made some sense as you are encouraged to obtain duplicates of certain units, something that isn't really the case with AL. AL would benefit a lot more from the character album style of most newer gacha, but it's already a bit too late to change

i feel the game is not super beginner friendly and that need to change sure they made shinano and nj on the perma banner was good first step but they need to add more thing like ur idea for example borrow ship / friend list or make the wish list have more ur so they can pull for musashi or whatever . for the other topic the ur replacing other ur that frequently in all gatcha game where the last one power creep old one so ppl can pull and waste cube for it if they don't do that some ppl or new play will just wait for rerun and save cube wich gonna lead into cut of money for them .

Maybe adding a mode to the campaing where you can only use the opposite faction to the main enemy from that chapter could be interesting, of course, people with more than 2-3 years playing the game might have everything set up, but for the rest of us it could be interesting, thats the way I play the game, but I don't even have a year playing so idk, maybe in a couple years I get to that point too.

I am fine if they add end game mode where they use more ship, just that it should be OPTIONAL for hard core players only. It should be skipable by casual waifu collector like me. As long the reward is NOT a skin or pretty new waifu. I'm fine with it.

How to double-like this vid. AL has potential to be better, they just have to make some changes into main gameplay loop instead of another couple of batches of ships which will stay in the dock after lv.120. Oh, and those magnificent pixel mini-games, which would be fine if they were in different client that was linked onto your acount, but make little sense in main AL game loop. They seriously need major gameplay revamp. And to improve UI effects when using minimap, if you do the same thing over and over for a year or more, waiting extra 3 seconds to see radar scanning the combat map feels like a waste of time tbh. List goes on, but oh well. It would be nice for them to at least try to change main gameplay or add a new game mode. And yeah, getting event maps to 100% to auto them is a drag too...

But Kimooo, there's already a way for players, both new and old, to use all their powercrept ships daily--the commissions~~~. Nah, but for real, Azur Lane should do what FGO does (as well as other games I'm sure). Azur Lane should make it so that certain ships during certain events get damage and bond bonuses. In FGO, characters get damage buffs ranging from 30%, 50%, and even 100%. That could apply to just events in Azur Lane. Yostar could also add new battle modes that could limit yet empower certain factions and rarity--the lower the rarity, the higher the damage buff. Hell, with subs, we have 9 ships on the field. They could even add a an option that would let us substitute our 3 subs for 1-3 other ships depending on the rarity or type. A meowfficer that heavily buffs only lower rarity ships would be pretty cool, too.

Just make a infinite mode with stages that can only be overcome with a new unused fleet (might wanna max the stages because 600+ ships can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to the amount of fleets). So to climb you always need another fleet. Can even have leaderboards, though might wanna split it in ranks because else all the whales gona stack it.

I made a video a while back saying why I don't like making a tier list. Essentially I don't want what I say to become gospel among my community and then prevents people from enjoying the game how they want to enjoy it. ( see the comments in here when I said in video that NJ isn't as good anymore compared to the newer BBs )

I think they make these "big event" ships so new players can get into the game faster even if they don't understand any mechanics.
