Honestly, I'm still confused as to how bringing a present cube into the future violates the laws of causality. The cube can obviously time travel, since you can bring a future cube into the present. Bringing a present cube into the future simply means that there will be no future cube in the future, since the present cube wasn't left alone (starting in the present) for 20 years. It *shouldn't* violate the laws of causality any more than bringing a future cube into the present, but for some reason I'm still unclear about it does.
@kamikage27473 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that, by bringing the cube from the present to the future, it removes the object from the present that would provide the incentive for the player to act and bring it to the future in the first place. For example: A=Present Cube B = Future cube Case 1: Player moves B to the present to solve a puzzle, this causes a split in timelines(one in which the puzzle is solved using B, one where it isn't and P is stuck permanently), no problem. Case 2: Player moves A to future to solve a puzzle, but, now there is no A for Present Player to have moved, due to Future Player taking it. meaning that, technically Future Player hasn't moved anything. But Future Player has already moved A and solved the puzzle, but there would technically be no A to move because by moving A, A stopped existing for Future and Present Player to move. I believe this would setup a paradox, unless my line of thinking is completely wrong. The reason why a paradox isn't created in the first option is that, by taking a cube from the future, the original(present) cube would still be there for use in the present AND in the future (to be moved to the present), thus solving the puzzle.(This heavily abuses the alternate timeline theory, but still works) This doesn't work in the second option because, by removing the original/present version of the cube, there is no version of the cube for the present version of the player to move. This is not a problem for future player, because they are in possession of the cube(at least until they realize that by taking the present cube, there is no future cube, but that's a separate problem), but without present player having access to the cube, future player technically wouldn't exist to take the cube, thus making an unresolvable loop/paradox.(I don't think that the timeline would slit for this change, due to the fact that there is no element for the timeline to split with, it's just one part of the timeline moving somewhere that the original section wouldn't be able to access, thus breaking SOMETHING, I just don't know what) Please take everything I just said with a pound of salt because I am currently quite tired and talking directly out of my ass
@sparkselm1733 жыл бұрын
@@kamikage2747 Umm... There is no "future" player, though... It's just one person, progressing through their own time, jumping between future and present. They're still "present player" in both times. There is a present version of the cube to be moved to the future, it's just that it's no longer in the present after it's been moved. That doesn't remove the present version of the cube *before* it gets moved. It's simply skipped twenty years, no different than when the player moves through the time portal. There is no paradox that I can see. It would have been a far better explanation for the game to just have the present cube be destroyed (in the same way as summoning a new cube does) if the player tries to take it into the future, simply explained as "you will not need it there, so you can't take it there". Or perhaps even setting up situations that rely on taking the present cube to the future to solve the puzzle (such as taking it through an area that is blocked in the present, but passable in the future).

This seems quite fun and a fantastic concept for a portal mod. 5:25 The simple fact you started in the past means you did change the past at the beginning. You were supposed to die in that room if you didn't change the past to be in a future version. 6:00 That's lying. Time travel itself violates causality by merely existing unless you were always meant to have time travelled which means cubes aren't fizzling because time travel but to add difficulty! It's also fairly obvious from the portal changing that it's operating on multiverse logic where changing the past from future information creates new time lines. So there is absolutely no consequences for changing the past. There also is how bringing something from the future to the past changes the past in the exact same way as the reverse. 6:50 mentioning a singular time line implies multiple so it is multiverse logic... actually it would make more sense if it wasn't time travel but rather time line jumping. Two different Apertures cooping each other. The perpetual testing initiative also makes it potentially possible. 7:58 the only thing that should be happening is it moving to where ever it will have been last placed in the future till the next time you see it. It also would change the future to that one but it should be stranding the future object from the other time line in the current past since that object is from a different future. Otherwise these puzzles would be impossible to solve.

5:55, I disagree with this logic. if taking something from the present into the future causes a paradox, then you stepping through should too. In theory, if you take a cube to the future, only the future version should vanish, like if you move it in the past, it shouldn't just vanish. however, it wouldn't help you solve the problem, because you'd still only have 1 cube in the future.

The reasoning at 10:20 is so legitimate, I was sad about these limitations but they make perfect sense for keeping the puzzle as a puzzle. When you are in the future and you press the button for a new cube, it makes sense that it deatomizes the cube because it is as if you just waited 20 years in the first room then pressed the button so no worries there. But if you move the cube to the present, and press the button in the future, it shouldn't deatomize anything because the future can't affect the past. Moving the future cube and future buttons etc, shouldn't be able to affect anything in the present area at all. A hand wavey explanation could just be that the Time portal is open, so whatever it is that deatomizes that instance of the cube spreads through the time portal and finds it. The other issue is that when you move the future cube into the present, there are now no cubes in the future, which makes no sense, there are two cubes in the present, so if you stood still for 20 years, there should be 1 cube in the future. It would be in the location of the future cube that you brought back to the present. Then if you brought that 1 cube back and placed it down, there should be 3 cubes in the present and 1 cube in the future... etc etc, and you should be able to make infinite cubes. It ruins the puzzles but it makes logical sense (provided time travel is logical at all). And again a hand-wavey explanation could be that the cubes de-materialise after a while out of their timeline. So the cube sits still for 20 years, then gets brought back in time, and then dematerialises 2 years later for example. that way when you go "back to the future" after bringing a cube through, there are no cubes.

I hope someone has this running for 20 years to see if it does indeed open.

It's insane that Portal Reloaded was created by a single developer. I consider Portal Reloaded the best one because it has 3 portals.

That THIRD puzzle broke its own rules. Pressing the button twice in one timeline should release two different cubes, not the same cube twice. I understand why they had to program it that way, but it still didn't follow the established time travel rules.

Taking cube from the present to the future, which simply just displaces the cube: Violates Causality Taking cube from future to present, creating a time-displaced duplicate and likely changing the sequence of future events due to a root cause happening after its effect: Completely Fine O_o

I would love it if Glados was still there. She just commentating whenever you time traveled. Because she would still be there in the future 😂
@warlord4thewitness3 жыл бұрын
No, she would be deactivated in the future.
@trondsjafjell46563 жыл бұрын
@@warlord4thewitness The main character deactivated Glados, let's assume for the sake of the argument that Portal reloaded takes place after Portal 2. Then She wouldn't be deactivated, if there was nobody to deactivate her. So long story short it could've been possible for her to make a return, if this was made by Valve.

6:39 since now both cubes are in the past and the past door is open and the current timeline affects the future, you just missed the opportunity to check what was behind of the door of the future.
