Sure, they could have. And then they could have alll the same reliability issues. Or, they could pay 5$ more, get some pretty nice structural integrity, get spacing between all of the components, get lower interference (old style bluetooth is *noisy*, as is wifi a/b/g, as is...), make it much easier to deal with managing heat, increasing reliability... Lets face it, product design is not all marketing. making it smaller *could* be done, but in this way they got a really maintainable kit and could skip a lot of the hassles, not to mention that assembly costs are higher than pcb size costs.

I love Anthony, He's the perfect Geek. Brilliant. Dry humor and just a total badass. Please keep including more of him. He is great. And the stuff finds is so out of what I would even dream of thinking about. I'm not dumping $400 into making one of these myself, but I will watch this again because his DIY hackery makes me think hard about my own.

There’s another reason too. Keep in mind, this isn’t emulating GameCube and Wii games, it’s running them on genuine hardware. This drastically increases the speed of emulation and reduces bugs associated with it.

Hey Linus I doubt you read the comment section but I have been watching all your video's for years on my 6 year old gaming pc. This pandemic made me lose my job 6 months ago and I had to sell my gaming pc for 75 bucks just to make my rent this month. I do make it a point to head to my local library so I can hop on a computer and watch your latest video because it brightens up my day. Thanks for the content you bring into the community I hope you know that you at least make my day in these really difficult times.

You aren't the only one, I built a full size arcade but probably spent more hours building it than playing it. The building process already gave me a great sense of satisfaction, so playing it after or watching my son play it is almost an added bonus rather than the point.

I love the craziness of this project, and the amount of research that the creators put into this. It makes so much sense, but only because the board was designed very well. In vintage Japanese Hi-Fi equipment, there's also a beautiful seperation of each circuit (sometimes visibly outlined on the PCB, or cut into seperate boards for easy replacement); ("this part is for power, this part amplifies, this part is EQ, this part is output, etc") But to have the Cojones to start cutting up boards too... :) A big thank you to the entire homebrew scene, by the way. For making consoles and devices usable in more ways than were intended, and extending their life significantly and reducing e-waste. And thank you, Anthony. For making 'scary' in-depth mods like this.. Feel doable for noobs like myself He makes the learning curve seem worth it. And I'm sure he'll inspire many young people to pursue careers in electronics, coding, and engineering (or simply to become avid DIY repurposing geeks)
