I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I totally appreciate the mistakes and the realization of having to change it. I feel that realization in my bones. Don’t just show the pretty stuff, we need the encouragement.

That old Lincoln, nicknamed ol Betsy by 1000s of pipeliners and welders down through the decades because its the most reliable, and smoothe welding machine known the modern man.. I grew up in a welding shop that had one of those on a trailer for jobs at a site and it never let us down once we got it started.. I installed one on my pipeline truck and used it for a couple decades before I effed up and sold the entire rig.. It's also a generator and can be started using ac current whenever the battery is dead or no good... Excellent score on getting that !!

When i farmed I was forced to learn how to weld strong. After I retired I had time to learn how to weld pretty. I admire the pros who know how to do both.

hearing you crank up that welder reminded me of my Dads welder. That was way back in the late 60's and early 70's and I don't know what it was but it was old as dirt then. Im sure he bought it used because I don't think he ever bought new unless it was a dress shirt for Sunday church.

Pass those stories down to your kids. And show them how to build and fix a few things. They will cherish it when you pass onto the peaceful sleep. I'm reaching my 50s and have lost a lot if valuable Time with my kids because of my damn job and corporate greed. The past few years I'm slowly trying to teach them different skills for I feel my days are numbered and speed is on the side of Time, not mine. Regret is an awful feeling. God bless.

Having a plethora of old equipment (various stump grinders, wood chippers and a skid steer), I've had to learn welding too. My welds started in the F grade range but with lots of practice they have steadily improved to a solid D minus. I refer to it as Drunken Sailor Welding, which help keep the helping-out-a-friend requests to a bare minimum.

Hey Andy, I have 40+ years of welding. You did an excellent job. FYI don't worry about keeping 7018 in a rod oven. That's a code vessel shop standard. Just keep them dry they'll be fine.

28 years at Lincoln Electric. Those SA 200s... people pay through the nose to keep them running. Can't believe the calls I would get on those for parts. Everyone loves them. Don't ever get rid of it. Parts will always be available from Lincoln. Basically bullet proof.

As an official uncertified welder with decades of mud daubing and grind it down to make 'em look OK, a smear of painters latex caulk over the rough spots before painting puts the project into a certifiable grade. Or better to borrow the neighbor's wire feed welder and become professional grade after a few minutes of practice. Take care.
