This works on the assumption that you are the first person to open the product in the comfort of your own home. What you don't know is how long it's been sat on a shop's shelf with people opening it to smell it etc... I work in a well known British store. This summer we put out suncreams that have been in the stockroom since last summer & now we are sending them back up to the stock room until next summer. This is especially true of brands who don't repackage. Few of the products are sealed & people always open them to smell before making their choice of brand.

It's strange that people open up sealed products and that an administration of the shop sell them as new products. Are there any samples on the shelves?

@@idyld9556 The products (sun creams, shampoos etc) are not sealed on arrival in store. Customers open to smell. No testers.

I was watching this while organizing my makeup and ended up with me dumping half of my makeup kit which contained three different mascaras; two face contour pallettes; one bottle of primer; three eye shadow palettes; three eyeliner pencils; one liquid eyeliner; three lip glosses; two lipsticks; one lip liner pencil; and one contour stick. I was using expired makeup as half of my makeup routine and had to throw it away. Luckily some were cheap makeup brands, but I had to throw away about $30 of makeup product. Thankfully I now know when makeup expires and to continue buying the right amount of makeup and nonexpensive brands to use.

My thought is that because shelf life is specific to each product, then the containers are not time/expiration oriented. i.e. many containers are too large for the time allotted for safe use. hmmmmmm

@@Globaltrends90 no offense to you personally! Im sorry I take it back. It was indeed not the best tone! I should have been nicer, youre right. on the topic though: this is simply how contamination works. You would basically spoil the new product with the old product thats full of bacteria. Bacteria spreads exponentially so you would basically shorten the new product shelf life by mixing it with the old one, so you would waste even more product. Hope that makes sense.
