The sad part of all of this Ichiro drama is the focus and conversation has turned to the voter who did not have him on their ballot. While I can’t see any real reason why you wouldn’t put him on your ballot, it is still one hell of an accomplishment to get 99.7% of people to agree on anything. Lol. Happy for all five inductees in this class but seeing Billy Wagner’s reaction to the call displayed how much emotion goes into the whole waiting process.

It doesn't really matter. It doesn't take away from Ichiro getting in, and nobody really cares if someone gets 100% or not. My suggestion is that if a player gets over 90% of the vote anyone that doesn't vote for the player has to submit a public essay to justify their ballot. Then the other voting members take a vote on that writers voting privileges. If more than 75% of them agree the voter is expelled for their dipshittery.

I only collect first ballot Hall of Famers in all sports (with the exception of PED guys like Bonds and Clemens who would have been first ballot. And early Baseball players who weren’t first ballot because of the backlog). I will never understand guys getting in on their 4th, 6th, 10th vote. Either you are a Hall of Famer or not?
@BaseballCollector3 күн бұрын
So if you could, would you change it to one year of eligibility and all or nothing type of deal?
@chrisolivo659117 сағат бұрын
Mike, i would give each player 2 chances on the ballot. The reason for a second chance is to penalize a player for something they did negatively but still deserve enshrinement. For example, anyone accused of Steroids like Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, etc, should have gone in on the 2nd ballot. Roberto Alomar goes in on the 2nd ballot for spitting in the umps face. Rose (if eligible back in the day) goes in on 2nd ballot for gambling. Gaylord Perry who had 300 wins but admitted to throwing a spit ball goes in on the 2nd ballot. Everyone would then have a context of a first ballot HOF player and 2nd ballot HOF player. They would know there is something negative in their career preventing them from being first ballot. To have Bonds, Rose and Clemens left out of the HOF but Bud Selig in is an absolute joke.

Guarantee the one person who didn’t vote for Ichiro is a big sabermetrics guy who never saw his prime. 107 OPS+, Lower WAR/162 than guys like Jason Heyward and JD Drew probably sticks out to someone who only looks at numbers. I agree that Ichiro is a no brainer Hall of Fame pick, but I'm amazed that you and others are bothered so much because 1 person didn't vote for him. 11 didn't vote for Ruth, 20 for Williams, 23 passed on Musial, 43 skipped Mantle and 45 passed on Clemente. All of these players are all time greats and if they didn't get 100%, I don't think Ichiro should be the first one. Yogi Berra was left off 57 ballots and he waited until his 2nd round to get in. I would be much more interested to hear from the people who didn't vote for the legends I just mentioned. Just my 2 cents.

Mantle, Mays and Aaron should have been unanimous decisions. So should the players from the 1st HOF class. Among many others. The voting system, it has been broken for many years. Maybe always. But it does stink, however, that in Ichiro (and Jeter too in recent example) of players, where there's that one guy who made it about themselves. We may never know who this voter is, and there's no logical reasoning or explanation to have not voted. For Ichiro. Other than being that one guy who wants to ''stand out.''
@ek60073 күн бұрын
Why are so many people making outrage videos about the Ichiro vote? Do you think Ichiro cares or do you think Jim Rice feels ashamed because it took 15 years for him to get in? No. Plus, there are a number of reasons for a writer to not vote for a HOF caliber player. He could have abstained from voting entirely to protest some other issue. Besides, it's a free country and there's no "right" way to vote.
