To me the red flag is 70% discount ads from small companies. You see, big stores use discounts to lure people in so they would buy something else too, sometimes they want to get rid of old stock. But these kinds of small companies don't sell anything else so even at the "discount" they still have large enough profit margin to justify advertising. So what is the production cost and how much we are paying for ads and the "brand" name? In short, if you make hefty profit from 70% discount, what's the point of the full price?

Have to correct a detail for you there, as it's way worse than you think. HUUSK has been around for a looooong long time. They where, if I remember correctly, one of the first massively wide spread social media knife scams. I remember the "Nordic knfe"(or some such) ads on facebook still, and that was back in 2010/11 and again in 2013 as "Viking knife" everywhere because of the Vikings show. With the same near unusable and unpractical knife shown here. 1994 was the start of the company, and 2009 they opened factories in East Asian countries, where shortly after the scamming started en masse iirc. So Kamikoto did a HUUSK if anything. Not that that's any better. Glad I saved my money for my Nesmuk and Kai knives. They'll probably outlast me.😋

Huusk knives is a totally unethical company. Back around 1999 or so I made the mistake of ordering one of their blades and they tried to make me pay for their “special” package where I was to “save” a great amount money so they sent me 8 of them and tried to make me pay for them. It took about a year to get them off my back and I had to threaten them with a federal fraud case before they just gave in and gave me the knives. It was a thoroughly disgusting experience. My Ma got me one for Christmas a year or two ago. Without even watching, I know some reasons are: Blade is too short, throwing the weight off. Handle is awkward and encourages you to ride up on it, further throwing off weight and leverage. Blade is curved quite sharply, especially towards the end, making it hard to dice efficiently on a cutting board. The weight, leverage, and curve encourage you to cut with the base, putting your whole body behind it, which is much slower than chopping with the tip of a flat-edged knife. Even if intended for meat like a cleaver is, the grip prevents you from getting the same momentum as swinging a cleaver would. The curved blade also makes it hard to slide ingredients off of a board and into another vessel. I love my Ma, but I really prefer just a standard $20 knife for chopping ingredients. It's no better for meat since a sharp knife doesn't need the body behind it, it just slices.

Wait, people thought Huusk were anything other than cheap knives 😂😂😂 I have one, it’s a novelty, honestly I’m surprised that it was such a celebrity brand

I have one and only tried using it in the kitchen one time. It was difficult and awkward to control and I always felt I was going to chop a finger off. It is still around the house somewhere and was only used for about 3 minutes. My cooks knife of 28 years is amazing in comparison.

It looks like a fighting knife that they decided to market as a kitchen knife. The reason I say that is because of the finger hole.
@troystallard689512 күн бұрын
I would most certainly never stick my finger through that hole if I were fighting with it. Too easy for your opponent's blade to slide up yours on contact, and take the finger off. It would also make it awkward to maneuver, or to change my grip on the knife. While no expert, I am a bit of a buff when it comes to edged weapons - and I have never seen one with a finger hole, from any period in history.

Funny, I just finished watching your video and guess what the first ad afterward was. They even offered a 70% discount! 😂 I’ll never buy one now knowing what I know. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the helpful comments. I would have nearly bought the knife. Thanks again!!

While I was watching your video, it was interrupted by an advert. It was for Huusk knives. Great timing KZbin. 😂

I got this knife at a bargain bin store (Amazon returns) on 6 dollar day because it looked cool. I definitely overpaid. It's not ergonomic at all. 440 steel has its place, but in 2023, we have hundreds of better knife steels. The finger hole location makes it awkward to use. I put it in the center console of my boat and use it as a bait cutter.

Thank you so much for that really informative video about Huusk knives. I only questioned my near purchase (for two!) as my bank flagged up to check wether it may be a scam. Think I'll stick to UK or German-made knives like Zwilling-Henckels or Forest and Forge (Dexam) from now on..!

I am not a knife enthusiast, but I like good sharp kitchen knifes that stay sharp reasonably long, arent difficult to sharpen and dont rust. I have bought some expensive knifes, and some cheap ikea ones. The ikea knifes are better…

Great Video and fair review. So many maufacturers are straight up lying about their knives. It's dissapointing and misleading to say the least.

Yay, Pete. He doesn't lie for views. KZbin isn't how he pays his bills. KZbin is just how he pays for buying knives lol

As Pete pointed out in his latest video, 420J2 has been used as a CLADDING steel for a very long time because of its toughness and rust resistance in San Mai style knives where the actual steel that forms the cutting edge is sandwiched in between 2 layers of it. Its not 1810 which is in fact a pot and pan stainless. 1810 heavy walled with a well attached encapsulated bottom on a pot or pan makes great everyday long use cookware, I have some that's over 30 years old . But its not knife steel. Its not even VG1 let alone Vg10. HUUSK is an IG rapid sale boot scraper knife brand sold to uninformed consumers. They sell the sizzle not the steak, and as we all know its Halloween season, but not even Michael Myers would be caught dead using it😂

Thank you besides Pete you’re the first one I’ve seen talk real about these god awful knives. Pot steel dammit it’s made of pot steel. It’ll disperse heat well probably but it won’t hold an edge

I have this knife. I bought it because of the amazing reviews and low price. I found the shape very awkward for kitchen use so I don’t use it. I still think it looks cool and I got it sharp with a stone. I keep it in the truck for times when I need a sturdy knife that I’m not afraid to abuse.

This poor guy on Facebook was trying to defend his purchase of this knife, bless his heart. Lol I said look dude you're not going to get Japanese Damascus steel for $20 you're not going to get it for $40, you're probably not even going to get Japanese Damascus for under $100! No he didn't just buy it once, not twice, he bought it three times! I said dude it's bad enough you got screwed the first time, but then you wanted to get screwed a second, and the third time, if you like buying pieces of $hit then buy more pieces of $hit, but they're still pieces of $hit!🙄

Is it just coincidence that your video opens with a commercial for a Huusk knockoff called a Mosato, or something like that?
@colinburgess9455 Жыл бұрын
I’m sure husk knives will soon disappear, unfortunately the people behind this product won’t. These unscrupulous people will turn their efforts to something else that’s equally cheap to manufacture and just as low in quality, it could be anything. They’ll have a new name and a completely different company. Their marketing skills are undeniably excellent, it’s just a pity they don’t put their skills into something worthwhile.

I’ve held one. It billed as a kitchen knife, but it’s anywhere between 4 & 5 mm (5/32-3/16), which is the thicknesses I make hunting / outdoor knives with. It’s clumsy knife, but you know what it has going for it? It’s cheap, and there’s so many more people prepared to buy cheap knives than anything else. It’s so cheap they were able to send free ones to every sell out they could who would talk about it on their social media. You get what you pay for and this knife is like all the other mass produced garbage out there.

Ever since these knives appeared in the market, all I've seen or read have been negative reviews. Yes, most likely it's cheap steel, made in China, not Japan, and some knife experts aren't happy with its geometry. I think I paid 12 bucks for it and wasn't expecting much. Surprisingly, I started enjoying using it in the kitchen. Because it dulls easily is no problem as I have a couple of honing steels to keep it sharp. I actually enjoy the blade geometry and use it a lot when cuttung up root veggies. But I also find it OK with things like onions, carrots and other veggies. Yes, I know Cedric made it sound like using this knife was equivalent to cutting with a tin can, but that's Cedric for you. I've since stopped watching him on KZbin but still continue to enjoy getting use of this particular knife in the kitchen.

As soon as this video ended I got an ad for the same knife, showing all the same features but now going by Matsato. Did Huusk go under?

I remember when these were marketed as skinning knives. Then the same knives were marketed as Viking knives. Now they're Japanese? C'mon, Huusk, make up your mind what these knives are supposed to be. Other than in the under $9 bin at Bud K. 🤠
