This Ashanti Kingdom was a British protectorate from 1902 to 1935. After 1935, it remained an independent state and eventually joined Gold Coast to form Ghana.

Nkrumah was the only founder. The others were envious, Jealous detractors with no vision but so arrogant
@kojomafoh1807Ай бұрын
This man is always trying to distort history. The Ashanti Kingdom was recognized as an independent state, not under British rule, and was not part of the Gold Coast. The fight for independence was for the Gold Coast, not for the whole of Ghana. The present-day state of Ghana is an amalgamation of the Ashanti Kingdom and the Gold Coast.
@derrickdjang3918Ай бұрын
You're should rather go and learn history about the why the "Yaa Asantewaa war"...
@derrickdjang3918Ай бұрын
For you even to say that the Ashanti kingdom was not under the British colonial rule until independence tells me that you don't know anything!
@kojomafoh1807Ай бұрын
The defeat of the Ashante Kingdom doesn't imply that they became a protectorate. That's why they reinstated the King after 25 years. The states that formed the Gold Coast signed a protection contract with the British governor. Recently, the king of Ashante reaffirmed this to a politician during an akwasidea.
@LaughRepАй бұрын
The one distorting history here is you. For simply ignoring the Northern territories in your submission is questionable. I partly agree with you that the fight for independence was for the gold coast. In fact this is what separates the UGCC from Nkrumah's CPP. UGCC was for Gold Coast. CPP for Ghana.
@kojomafoh1807Ай бұрын
@derrickdjang3918 that is not true. The Ashanti joined the Gold Coast for independence in 1951 through negotiations between the king of Ashante, politicians, and the British government. The agreement was for a country where the Ashantehene is the head of the state and elected politicians would serve as the Prime Minister, similar to the UK. However, there were various issues, such as the secession of the Bona and Ahafo regions, the Bono Kyempim, stigmatisation against the Ashantes, and other efforts to weaken the power of the Ashantehene. This has led to the country being divided with divide-and-rule tactics. The Northern Territory separated from the Ashante Kingdom after the Yaa Asantewaa War and requested British protection, leading to it being called the Northern British Protectorate on the 1935 map of Ghana. The only independent state was the Ashante territory. This history has led to divisions among Ghanaians on their views of the country's founders. Why should we even debate o. The founder (s) of Ghana?
