Detroit Lakes Minnesota was founded in 1871 by colonel George Johnson. Sent to select lands for the New England colony. They called it Detroit Mn. In 1927 it was changed to Detroit Lakes Mn. to avoid confusion with Detroit Mi. Mail got mixed up.

Because it's in Detroit Lakes MN. That's why they call it that. I'm happy to be of help.

That Idle Air stuff didn't last long. I Guess they still have some down south but only 25% of what it was. Before that they had the turtles in the ground with a phone and cable jack. Imagine I drove for years without a phone, GPS or Qualcomm. Now that's when we had freedom.

Here's what I found on how Detroit Lakes got its name. Detroit Lakes was founded by Colonel George Johnston, who came to Minnesota in 1871 to select lands for the New England Colony. After extensive examinations, Johnston numbered sections which established Detroit Township. In 1873, Detroit Township boasted the first grain warehouse built west of Duluth on the Northern Pacific Railroad. The city of Detroit Lakes, originally called Detroit, began north of the railroad tracks and gradually extended south to Detroit Lake. The name Detroit came about when a French Catholic Priest camped on the shore of the lake with a view of the sun setting across the water. The water was low and revealed a sandbar, creating a narrow strait that glistened in the light of the setting sun. The priest exclaimed, “What a beautiful strait.” The word strait in French is detroit. Consequently, the city was named Detroit.

I live in Fargo and to be honest I just thought it was named after Detroit, MI. I kind of like that it isn't that it's the French word for strait.

Happy Louis Riel Day, you rebel! It's President's day here in the States. Whole country, same holiday, a miracle. Each province has its own day, I thought Canada was more central government, it seemed that way when I lived in Saskatchewan. Enjoy the day, "It's gonna be a good day!"
@Trucker_Josh Жыл бұрын
We're actually a Confederation of independent Province "States". Each with their own constitution and jurisdiction. Any of them can hold a referendum to leave Confederation and become a fully independent nation state at any time. Today in Manitoba it's Louis Reil Day, yes. To most around here in my area it would be "Traitor Day" I don't know how popular he is in the rest of the province...clearly there are parts that do like him... but around my region we do not celebrate him.

Some else mentioned it but fuel tax is different in each state and province so sometimes even if you think you are paying more at the pump you end up paying less every quarter when you or the company files your IFTA.I always factor the IFTA when I fuel and most of the times I get money back instead of paying. I am not operating in Canada but I've heard that you as s business get your GST back which could be a good chunk of the price you pay.

Yet you’ve repeatedly ignored my comments questioning your weight loss status, that is NOT being Accountable! Healthy eating habits and exercise are a lifetime commitment.
