Great vid. If you own a house; you work on it. If you own an RV; you work on it. If you own a boat; you work on it. To me its all the same and for me, once I've fixed (improved it) it then it will last for a VERY long time. So enjoy is the key because they all take money and work. Ciao from Sidney, BC

Minute 10:07 A beautiful "Bartender" at Sucia. Don't see those much any more. As a kid in the late '50s I'd watch the Coast Guard leave Depot Bay on the Oregon Coast in their Bartender (designed and built at that time in Lincoln City). Thanks for all the work to film, edit and post your videos!

Water is our friend until it isn't our friend. Shaun, thanks for sharing the insight of how boats, like friendships and relationships are hard work and in constant flux and repair but in the end, so well worth the effort especially when you have major boat skills like your team does. Today's lesson was very good> Thank you.

I really liked your hull scrubbing machine !! Also taking care of that pesky leak was a pain, but as usual Shawn had things figured out and problem solved. The headliner job was time consuming, but the results are beautiful and when you stand back you have to compliment yourself on a job well done. Both of you tackle jobs on MV Freedom and then enjoy the fruits of your labor. Hope the rest of your weekend and coming week bring happiness and enjoyment. Take care of each other and live it up !!

You did a great job on the headliners. Let's face it, boats are work but as long as you're enjoying the fun times more than working, it's worthwhile. Your videos are so gret. I'm sure you hate the wind because it's cold Elizabeth but when you head south to the heat, you'll love the wind. Pats to Martha and Sully.

Oh yes, the familiar frustration of a boat owner. I try to keep my SeaRay impeccable. So, to my chagrin, I was walking on the bow deck and found it a bit "squishy". Lots of investigation and we discovered that screw holes that hold the windshield down, were leaking (presumably for years). $10,000 later and the deck is fixed. Who would have believed those little screws could cause all that damage. The list goes on, but I'll stop now. Great video and super job on the headliner.

What a bummer Michael especially with how much pride you put in your Sea Ray. We take great care of our Mercedes but the differential just went out and waiting for parts from Germany. Never heard of a MB differential failing.

🤣18 year old boats parked in salt water in a climate that freezes and thaws will always have those types of issues. Nordhavns are universally recognized as one of the sturdiest and best cruising boats around, yet with tons of systems, redundancies, and creature comforts in a constant salt water environment, it requires constant upkeep. Good videos for those who are thinking of being live-aboard cruisers, as my rvs and sailboats always required almost as much time and/or money to maintain as enjoy. Check out the used boats that never received such care and you’ll see a marked difference. Keep up the good work.

That “water proof” scrubber/ drill is a great solution. The foam just disintegrated, probably due to age, moisture, temp etc. Seen it in cars. The thin foam just gives the vinyl a smooth look, covering/ hiding any defects in the sub structure/wood panels.

Misery loves company….I am heartened to see that my Nordic Tug 42 AWEIGH isn’t the only high quality boat that has droopy headliner issues. At least the Nordhavn panels are relatively easy to remove and re-do when compared to the NT. A good project for a rainy day! Great combination of cruising and maintenance content…keep it up. After lining in the Seattle area most of my life, I agree this has been a gray and dreary spring. I can remember at least one spring where it rained until Fourth of July weekend. Then there is July, August, September and most of October. Best kept secret of the PNW. I like Shawn's pessimism, his expectations are always met and he is never disappointed.

After boating "up there" religiously for fifteen-plus years, we experienced the romance, great times and countless adventures. We're glad we indulged, but don't miss it...especially those non-summer wet/foggy summers and endless boat maintenance. Not to claim it's originality but, "The two happiest days of a boaters life is the day the boat is purchased and the day it's sold". Favorite ports: Rosario (Honeymoon), Port Townsend/Point Hudson (Quiet), Roche Harbor (Vibrant), Victoria (Classy) and Nanaimo (Getaway). 😎

When replacing, hatch's or repairs. All screw holes will be larger. Shifting, waves, sun , snow, rain. Screws wiggle, not alot. But .0000001, unscrew, holes get get bigger . The fix is always roll the new screws in silicone. ( try not to use the old screws if you can, the threads have been compressed, and expanded. Put new ones in ). If there rot in the screw hole, dry it out, heat gun or sun, if it fiber glass, mix small amount of a epoxy, smash it into the hole, or inject it in to the hole, let it cure. Redrill pilot hole. Then screw. Have fun. Put a small dab of silicone on top of the screw head when done. And seal around the hatch.

I have owned a few boats made in China I now have one made in North America. An incredible difference in quality. Nordhavn are quality built boats. You can see from the gel coat finish above the headliner. There was attention to detail even in concealed locations. All boats will leak sooner or later it's just the nature of the movement of the fiberglass due to temperature and flexing in Heavy Seas however now that I have a North American built boat I will never go back. As a side note I probably would have gone after the screws first before removing the teak trim around the hatch. Hindsight is 20/20

Maybe give butyl tape a try. The fact y'all live/boat where you get freezing weather definitely won't help water leaks due to the expansion/contraction of the freeze/thaw cycle. You will have a tougher time than boaters in more tropical climates.
