The game makes no sense. A ranking member of a yakuza clan is released after a lengthy stint in prison. During his incarceration, the clan has lost a lot of ground. His oyabun, honoring his loyalty, sets him up in a hotel, for a month. Even gives him some spending cash. The yakuza then repays this by engaging in unauthorized acts of aggression against rival clans? Get this is a game and supposed to be a form of power fantasy, but cannot turn my brain off enough to get with that storyline. Maybe I missed a line of dialogue where you’re told to, essentially, initiate multiple gang wars. Even then, it still doesn’t work as it’d put that one clan under direct attack from all the rival clans simultaneously. Can roll with a game about a plumber who eats mushrooms to double his height and flowers to shoot fireballs. However, as an adult, Fading Afternoon doesn’t have enough narrative logic to make it that compelling to me. Nice visual presentation though.

You have to actually engage enemies in order to fight. I played for a while before I figured that out too. Your objective in this is almost always unclear which I didn't really like.
