I’ve been around since the old days. One thing I see consistently not mentioned is that the reason the Emperor was so stressed for time, was because he put our whole species on a ticking clock. He journeyed to Molech and found the gate into the Warp, there he made a promise “only a god in waiting could make.” He promised to lead humanity to Chaos in exchange for knowledge on how to make the Primarchs (his replacement perpetuals according to Erda) and knowledge on how to draw on the warp like they do. He never intended on keeping this promise, which is why he knew a betrayal was going to happen at some point. This is why the Webway Project was so vital to his plans. If humanity is in the webway, the Four can’t take revenge on the Emperor. Further, he could guide humanity into being a powerfully psychic race like the Eldar, without the drawbacks of corruption being an issue. He caused EVERYTHING through ahis hubris.

Hot Take: I think it's not just that he believes in human supremacy, he believes in the supremacy of his specific humans. Think about the kind of people he prefers for company. Perfect, immortal, golden clad super soldiers *who can't say no to him.* He considers the average joe expendable. Any genetic deviation, unless it's oked by him or by his design, is frowned upon. His little city in the webway that's supposed to be humanity's refuge from a psychic cataclysm, do we really think he'll make room for ratlings there? Ogryn? People from irradiated wastelands? Cyborgs? Of course not! Those are imperfect and grew on their own over time and due to environmental stress. The emperor only wants people for whom he can steer their evolution, including psychic potential.

The Emperor of Mankind is an example of a "great conqueror but bad politician" type of king. He couldn't be an effective people leader (and including "non-people" like mechanicum) because he no longer operates on any recognizable level of human empathy, he's so imba that emotions and seeing other people's/factions' perspective are petty, impertinent stuff for him and thus this makes him instantly 100% alienated and unrelatable as a person. He was already a seasoned Perpetual (and by this, I mean for several millenia at this point in the lore) and is probably the most powerful entity in any room he enters, so everyone else's just gonna be like "yes sir" to whatever he says but only when he's around, walks away and assumes thing will play out, but that being said he will never be loved albeit absolutely feared, and eventually hated at some point.

They're an empire within an empire, both a blessing and curse and in its own way, lending its technological expertise where they can, uncovering and utilising STC's and other pre-Age of Darknesses artefacts. All the while having them plot behind the big E's back, thanks to his essential manipulation of their beliefs. It would all come to a head in the War of the Beast.

I think that emperor has created the Imperium as we know it during the unification wars, when he created thunder warriors only to "dispose of them" in the most brutal fashion imaginable instead of honoring them and giving them a chance to live good lives. He placed such a high value on the humanity, yet toyed with human genome and created unstable and brutal freaks with shortened lifespans, good only for war. The irony? He created the space marines, who are the most inhumane sub-species, incapable of doing anything that makes life worth living. I think that's a recipe for a disaster not by accident, but by the design. He created yet another set of inhumane freaks, that are hinted to also be destined to be desposed of, the only difference is that he wasn't smart enough to pay a closer attention to them. Not only they are abominations against the nature, but they are ultimately what made the Horus Heresy so brutal. All of this boils down to Emperor's arrogance and hypocrisy. Same with him using the Warp and psychic powers while trying to push the narrative of warp gods not existing. The whole heresy thing happened because of his personality flaws, as simple as that. They made him build his empire on the weak foundation of genetic freaks, lies and poor choices. And the biggest irony is that traitors were sort of right, even though warp gods had them corrupted.

This is a small point that doesn't really matter, but the Mechanicum doesn't view the Emperor as the Machine God, rather they see him as the Omnisiah. The difference between the two is akin to the difference between IRL religious Gods and their associated Messiahs on earth. The Omnisiah is something like the avatar that represents the will of the Machine god, but the Omnisiah is not the Machine God themselves.

@WhatareyouPaintingnow I fully agree. Like I wrote above. It doesn't really matter. Great video overall still. I think the primary lesson of WH40k and similar sci-fi dystopias like Dune is that an individual can develop a lot of intelligence, but that it takes a society rising together to develop wisdom. In the absence of wisdom, great knowledge gets you these settings.
