Thank you for this great video, it means a lot to us as Indonesians. I grew up seeing how she was born into a great player. There's nothing about her that doesn't amaze me. Her talent, passion, dedication, will and hard work are what make her deserve the utmost respect. She will forever be irreplaceable. She will always be the best female mixed doubles player that Indonesia has ever had.

When you talked about Liliyana as a player - her strengths being her defense and court vision and her weakness being speed and power - this reminded me a lot of Huang YaQiong. Great video, by the way. Hadn't heard of her before as I'm new to badminton, so I enjoyed learning about her.

Glad you liked it and yeah Liliyana was not neutrally a gifted athlete but she made up for that with sheer grit, determination and professionalism. And yes, she was helped by her badminton abilities which were sublime

Great video, Ben! As a new badminton fan during the Rio Olympics, I rooted for Malaysia to win as many events as possible, including the mixed doubles final. Very disappointed and annoyed when the Indonesian pair emerged victorious. But I’ve now gained a new perspective and can appreciate how much that Olympic gold meant to her and why it is so deeply respected and deserved. 35:06 sums it all up. Just highlights her determination, commitment and resilience.

Sorry for OOT, but i hope you'll consider making a video about something like "Top 3 (or 5) Most Wasted Talent in the last decade" which means top athletes that not only had S but S+ talent completed by good posture, height, agility, etc but maybe lack of mentality, consistency, or got injured while chasing the greatness. Someone that in your vision should have been capable to get a world championship gold medal or any color of olympic medal. I have one name to consider: Praveen Jordan.
@BenBeckmanBadminton6 күн бұрын
That's a good video idea. For me the name that jumps out to me is Kenichi Tago. One of the most gifted singles players ever yet achieved far below what he should have. And it was for numerous reasons. I do like this video idea and agree Praveen Jordan was someone who could have achieved God level things. He still did pretty well though

Lilyana natsir was the best female indonesian mixed double player and until now there is no indonesian female mixed double player that can match her performance. Nowadays indonesian female mixed double players are slow, weak in defence, weak in offense. Until indonesia have another female mixed double player with lilyana natsir caliber, there is no chance indonesia can win in mixed double sector.
@samueloctaaji1929 күн бұрын
The other important thing is how impactful Lilyana Natsir to other player. In Indonesian interview, Debby Susanto said that the reason she trained hard is because the higher ranking player (Lilyana) trained so hard that she (Debby) can't be slacking off. Lilyana often said to Debby that if Debby can't return Lilyana's smashes, how she can return other male player's smashes? This results on Debby trained her defense harder. On other note, as an Indonesian, I always disappointed when I see Nova as Malaysian XD coach and Vita as Djarum (Indonesian Club) XD coach. Not their fault, but it's a missed opportunity nonetheless.
@BenBeckmanBadminton8 күн бұрын
Hahaha a good way to put it by Liliyana. Nova having a great impact in Malaysia but was a coach for Indonesian mixed after his retirement. Not sure how long for though

@BenBeckmanBadminton6 күн бұрын
There's luck in everything, but I think even without that, Owi/Butet were in the shape of their lives in Rio
@IwanFuryo6 күн бұрын
@@BenBeckmanBadminton Head to head was 13-7 to chinese pair It's mean statistically 65% : 35% I think Owi mentally not as though as Lilyana & chinese pair or chinese pair stamina a bit better or something else/several factor. In an interview: "My toughest opponent at that time was Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei. They were the toughest, best pair, maybe until now. In my opinion, they were a complete pair, good defense, attack, calmness, and experience. It was hard to beat them. They were ready to play anything. We also needed luck to beat them. If it was with another pair, we could still be tricked, for example from a weak attack or whatever. If it was with Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei, if we threw the ball wrong, it was dangerous," explained Tontowi.
