Neither of you is right nor wrong, you're both just looking at it through different lenses.

Imo, you dont even have to be in love. Getting three touches because of a deal is just like transaction and it is so limited, you barely get to register it in your mind. Being able to hold that person and get all the touches that you need feels infinitely better, especially knowing that you are actually wanted there. the thing with the ending change is because after the studio dropped the 1st trailer in 2021 and it had so much views like 10M+ in less than a week and trust me that's a lot for a brand new anime (jjk only had 2M+) So a lot of music labels contacted mappa because they wanted their artist do music for the show so the director suggested to have different ending for each episode and it turned out this way and also it benefits the show popularity so much like all the artists are quite popular in japan so their fans will be watching the show (it's a win win)

However it is very similar in a symbolic sense, and borrows some imagery. The way the whole world watched on TV, and the horror and fear that spread globally as a result. so abotu the gun devil: it ONLY ever did the ONE attack 13 years ago. What wasn't mentioned in the anime but was mentioned in the manga was THIS: The gun devil traveled throughout the ENTIRE world within 5 minutes, and in thse five minutes attacked SEVERAL countriesincluding america, hawaii, japan, china and russia among others. Each seprate attack took at least less than 1 second (I think one example was like .45 seconds or something?) and the longest taking like 2 seconds. One of thos attacks hit Japan, killing Aki's family (and MANY others). I forget the exact death toll but Japans was in the THOUSANDS.WITHN ONLY A COUPLE SECONDS AT MOST. So yeah that's not 1.2 million in america. Thats 1.2 million WORLDWIDE. IN FIVE MNUTES. AND THIS IS ONE DEVIL. THIS IS WHY DEVIL HUNTERS EXIST AND WHY THEY TAKE CONTRACTS WITH OTHER DEVILS JUST TO STAND A CHANCE. THIS THING IS OUR APPARENT MAIN ANTAGONIST. And to clarify, no Himeno wasn't affected by the Gun Devil, as far as I can tell.. Aki was clearly much older there in the flashback. However, she's been in the devil hunting game a long time and has had six partners prior to Aki in said career, and eahc one died on the job. (so no, most likely none of them were killed by the gun devil unless Himeno was working as a devil hunter 13 years ago, which feels unlikely). That grave site is likelyeither jsut a general grave site, or one housing devil hunters specifically, there is no inbetween.

the scene between makima and denji is peak in all sense, you can feel everything, the music , direction , the way the hands move, the looks are very well done , just perfect truly conveys everything that happens there, also makima seiyuu was perfect there , his tone of voice and the way she speaks transmits too much regardless of what makima intentions may be, I am talking about what the scene achieves, not how she is as a character, which is quite interesting, She knows how to keep him busy and motivated as well as teach him how to pursue something he wants ... she understands everything that goes on around her. The terrorist attack probably wasn't 9/11. It was described as a terrorist attack involving guns. There were no guns used in 9/11. The gun devil's attack that killed Aki's family was not the event that hurt the other devil hunter at the cemetery. That was several years later after Aki went through training. The pieces of the gun devil are torn off when it moves due to the fact that it moves so fast. The age of consent in Japan is 16. Like it or not, Makima isn't doing anything illegal by the standards of Japanese law. Also, grooming is a different thing than just exchanging sexual favors for labor. So what Makima is really doing is just plain, old fashioned, prostitution.

I think the Gun Devil attack might be based on a real-life story that happened to a Japanese exchange student that was going to a Halloween party (in the early 90s, I believe). He went to the wrong address, thinking he was going to a Halloween party. He wasn’t fluent in English and the person at the house he went to got a gun and told him to freeze… he didn’t comply and the man shot him dead. Since then, Japan has always been wary of gun violence in America.

The terrorist attack in America is definitely meant to evoke 9/11 in terms of imagery, but explicitly isn't 9/11 (note there's only one tower). It won't be overtly stated probably for a while, but the series does canonically take place in 1997, so 'thirteen years ago' would be 1984. I think someone else also shared it, but a detail communicated as narration/text in the manga that I understand not necessarily making it in to the adaptation (Makima doesn't say it, and the show hasn't used and tonally wouldn't suit a narrator), but that I nonetheless still miss: the time the Gun Devil spent at nations across the globe and the local death tolls. It really builds the suspense and fear surrounding the Gun Devil (while still ominously not showing us even a glimpse of it!) and drives home the thematic tie to and commentary on gun violence in the real world. Their mistrust comes from experience. Makima has been openly treating him like a dog. Telling him to do something for a treat. As we and Makima sees, Denji had been in a leash in such a long time, making him ignorant to things such as seeing the depth of someone's care, making him way more vulnerable to manipulation; just as Makima does. Aside from Makima's restrictions and the discipline that she shows as their kind of like supervisor, she's been acting like it as if she has a bigger goal. That "deal" she's offered to Denji this episode's already a big ahh red flag. She's literally doing what people does to train dogs. She's constantly making deals with him, doesn't lie, and says and does what he wants to hear and feel. The red flag is that it's just too good to be true, saying all of it must have a price.

There have been a lot of terror attacks in the US besides 9/11. Heck the WTC had been attacked before that. In the 90s the US had quite a few attacks across the country, some mass shootings, others bombings. The show is referencing these attacks in general coupled with the high gun deaths, using the lens of stopping a bad devil by a good guy with a gun as the motivating factor across the world for broader gun use. Even with that though the US had the most violence so it was hit hardest by the Gun Devil. Someone else in the comments will undoubtedly post the details of the GD attack so I'll save myself the trouble.

If you lose an eye you also lose your depth perception, so you wouldn't be able to tell how far away things are, which makes it near impossible to catch things and really hard to drive safely. Also, I think Aki only had to sacrifice some skin to his devil because, since he summons it's head to bite things, he is also feeding it every time he uses it. So from the devils point of view, he got a small down payment, but payments continue on a per use basis. Himeno is using the ghost's arm as a tool though, with no return for the ghost devil, and so it took payment in full, up front for the contract, and so it was a much higher price.
