Kay Kay This is why this society is so corrupt and ignorant; Their foundation is off of this and social media. And then people expect to have a healthy, successful relationships with this mentality. Selena is older than Justin, probably more grounded and left her value in the hands of a man. Good for her she took the healing course but don’t judge a book by its cover!

@@whatzittooyah yes that is completely true, but still they move on faster than who they abuse. Not to say they are healed, which is what the abuse usually does before they move one. But usually the abuser forgives themself before moving onto to someone new without being healed from what they did. Justin said he was emotionally abusive in all his relationships so he moved on to more people before being healed and kept the same pattern. The problem he/others doesn't see is how much they may have affected those lives with his abuse but is still selfish enough to do it again and again.

I'm impressed and grateful that Justin validated her experience. So often emotional abusers don't admit fault, gaslight, dismiss, and manipulate facts to avoid accountability. I hate she had this experience but she can count that as one blessing, to facilitate her healing.

I thought that as well. I admire his accountability, and it not only validates her experience, it bodes well for his emotional growth. Justin Beiber was the victim of being commoditized at such a young age, and hurt people hurt people. So many young celebrities do t make it out of that. I would however, like to see him further champion both his cause and hers, by speaking AT emotional abusers about the damage they are doing.

So ignorant how people feel so entitled about Selena Gomez’s healing. “Get over it. Stop talking about it.” Emotional abuse is no joke and trauma takes years to recover from. I'm sure words were had after this segment. Cause Adrienne intentional or not is supporting being quite. What if Justine was beating Selena? Should she have just gotten over it cause time passed. Also 100% if he was emotionally abusing her he probably put her in compromising situations that scared her. He might not have been the direct threat but he probably still made her feel like she was in danger.

It takes time.. she’s busy with her career health etc.. she is taking her time to process her experience slowly because memories come unexpectedly & trigger depression anxiety etc… she’s learning what she feels and what it is that bothers her … sharing as she goes.. it takes longer to heal & some never heal from trauma… so let her be Adrienne Bailon!

Rare is Selena’s first album in five years since Revival back in 2015, she’s speaking her truth about her life from 2015 to now and she has every right to do so, Justin happens to be part of that. She hasn’t been talking about it constantly for years, she’s been very low-key since 2016 because she has lupus and had to have a kidney transplant, now is her time to speak. Justin talked about Selena, wrote song about Selena on Journals in 2013 and Purpose in 2015 but nobody told him that he needs to move on or that he’s been talking about it for so long.

All I will say is this... everybody heals differently... if it takes going to therapy to heal... DO IT ! If it takes having a one on one conversation with that person that hurt you so you can get closure... DO IT! If it takes accepting the apology that never happened so you can have self relief... DO IT ! Do whatever feels necessary to get out of a place of hurt , pain , and resentment... because then you’ll be able to truly heal once you’ve released all that stuff that happened in your negative past to lead to such a positive future and learn from it !

I think I can relate with Selena as a woman who has been there, abused verbally, emotionally, physically and mentally. Some women at a young age falls in love are sometimes naive and tend to put the young man up on a pedestal. We give so much and become so vulnerable and we forget about ourselves. We become so submissive because we think it’s the norm and we don’t want to disappoint the man we love. It’s real! It’s unfortunate but there can always be a way out. I’m very happy for Selena and I think she can still do better! My prayers for her! 🙏🏼

this just shows once again that we are much the same then we are different. we struggle in relationships and unfortunately sometimes it can get ugly by staying in an emotional abusive relationship. they were never perfect, and people till this day idolize the two of them together. i respect selena for speaking her truth, and i also respect justin for owning up to his mistakes.

HalieRenee I don’t expect anything. People are so naturally entitled even in relationships. They were both too young to even know what a healthy relationship is. If you have to verbalize or force someone to change, then that person isn’t for you. It’s only up to the person to want to change. Your response (one sentence) is judgmental coming from someone who is a mental health graduate. I’ll pray for you hun.

I got cussed out all the time, a door slam in my face, if I didn’t leave.. things would have gotten aggressive, got lecture when I did something wrong, always putting the blame on me, try to tell me what I can or cannot wear & cussing me out in a public area. Now due to that situation it has caused me anxiety... So, I definitely feel for Selena.

I think that was a great question that Adrian posed at 2:30: "At what point do you stop telling your story?" Amanda and Jeannie chimed in, with the latter saying that "I hate that". You can enourage people to speak but pay attention to specific people they allow to "tell their story". If this was a female musican they all idolize and make excuses for, and a past male lover comes out and talks about his past with her, I wouldn't be surprised if the women on this panel gave him the cold shoulder. There's so much bias against men in favor of women. He will be viewed as the bitter, old boyfriend who's trying to interfere with female's success. Selena Gomez can speak on her relationship if she wants, especially if she hasn't talked about it much, but there is a point where speaking publically about a high profile relationship becomes past its expiration date, like America's obsession with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, particularly if the conversation is superficial and trite. There are certain stories that are constantly rehashed and doesn't have to be anyone's business. If the women are all about equality, they should keep the same energy regardless of the past lover is male or female, high profile or not.

Emotional abuse is mostly the same as verbal abuse.Until you stop talking about a problem you are not getting healed.Healing is when you hardly remember what affected you.Selena will forever be the girl I wished Justin had married because I know they both loved eachother. In my opinion you can NEVER stop talking about ANY type of abuse that you go threw, especially if it can help others. Don’t say it’s good for her to tell her story then ask when when you stop telling it. You keep telling your story and try and help ANYONE that goes threw abuse no matter what form it’s in. You can forgive and not forget and continue to work on yourself and continue to SAVE lives of many others who aren’t able to over come their abuse.

Women are more likely to be abuse emotional than physical these days. Times have changed men's are being emotionally abusive more now. It's hard to accept being in an emotionally abusive relationship because you don't even realise until it's too late. I agree 100% with Jeanie, I feel like we all want our opinions to matter when it's convenient for us, they have discussed issues of the #me too movement in this table and for A to say/ask " at what point do you tell the story" it's unnecessary, each person's journey to healing, gathering confidence and strength to talk about abuse is different. In my opinion Selena is not saying what she said as an accusation against Justin, I think for her it's being vulnerable and telling other young women to recognise the signs of abuse, that it can come from any type of relationship and to love themselves enough to get out of such situations.

It’s true with what Adrienne is saying though, Selena should’ve been done talking about him. He’s married and has a wife now she could’ve just said my ex she didn’t even have to call him out by name. She can share her story as much as she wants but he has a wife that is going to hear this and it’s going to affect her because I’m sure her hearing about Selena mentioning Justin time and time again in publications/interviews eventually becomes annoying. Like unless Selena has permission from Hailey and Justin to talk she really should stop mentioning Justin by name in interviews. It just gives people something to talk about like stand on your own quit using Justin as a crutch to stay on media.

I was in an emotionally abusive relationship for a year. He was former military and had PTSD, and I took that very seriously, and he used that to manipulate me. Every time I had any complaint about his behavior, or even any time I was personally struggling, he'd turn it into a pity party for him, and it was alllll about how his PTSD affected bla bla bla. Every time I was mad, he'd turn it into "well if you left me no one else would ever love me". I tried to break up with him 5 times. One of the times we'd been apart for 2 weeks and he called me saying that he "was taking out a life insurance policy" because he "didn't think he'd make it another 2 years" so basically threatening to kill himself if I didn't come back. Soon after I came back strictly out of fear of what would happen to him, he lost his job. And I left for good the second that he got a new one. And he left me hundreds of messages and voicemails basically still saying he was going to kill himself, and that I was selfish for leaving while he was going through a crisis, and that his depression was worse and he was always 'disoriented', and that he only bought his dog because of me. Not once did he take any of my advice, listen to any critique I had. He bought the damn dog AGAINST my advice, and refused to listen to me when I tried to teach him how to train it. He isolated me from my friends and told me that i "wasn't a good fit" for the career path I wanted to take. And yet he somehow turned it around so it was all my fault. Emotional abuse is no joke. There are no physical signs so the outside world can't see it. It is the most manipulative and evil thing you can do to a person.
