Nothing new here in the U.S. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and lived in a three room 700sq. ft. house with six people and no indoor plumbing, and we ate "surplus food" from Lyndon Johnson's so called "War on Poverty". The government legislates poverty then complains about having to care for the poor. And that was when the corporate tax rate was nearly 90% on the rich, now it's below 30%, so much for "trickle-down" economics, it's not even a dribble.

Sadly many of the homeless are veterans, the group along with farmers with the highest suicide rate in the country. And some go to work from these homeless camps at WalMart and Amazon. Give then hell Bernie Sanders!

This is interesting ! I'm from England and from the city of Bristol ( supposedly a well to do city ) , and homelessness is absolutely rife here , literally hundreds of people living on the streets ! I work in the city center , and see this for myself , mainly men between 30 to 50 , but many young women too ! There's a guy in my district who is in a wheelchair and sleeping in shop doorways at night , I see homeless people every time I leave my house ! All benefits have been cut due to austerity , it really is quite shocking !! And yes , a lot of the employment is minimum wage 7.83 pounds per hour and are zero hour contracts , so few worker rights , and they can cut your hours or sack you when they want ! I had one of those jobs once and they treat you like dirt , and the universal credit system he's talking about is very harsh , and if you do anything even remotely wrong they will stop your unemployment money ! I could talk for hours about stuff which is wrong and unfair !

City centre Manchester is the same sad, pityfull scene, Austerity is a political choice and those who enact it have no humanity. What I despise the most is ordinary working people who support and excuse these policy's, do they not realise that they themselves are only two or three pay cheques away from the same plight ? they must think it cannot happen to them, how shortsighted.
@MadderMel

Yes , very shortsighted ! And if you asked Theresa May you'd probably get some " Strong Leadership " or other Bullshit reply , like putting , literally thousands of your citizens on the streets , is necessary to get the country through it's rough patch , while they've been sipping champagne in their warm mansions over the Christmas period , it's deplorable and it's crude what is happening to our country !

It's the same in Denmark. The government is actually pushing for a greater wage span and has also dramatically reduced social security. Germany also has working poor and minimum living standards for some doing two jobs. This isn't neglect, it's deliberate and it's global.

Hallands Menved its to normalise this for every new generation of workers. They're less likely to question or rise up against the status quo. They probably witnessed their parents experience the same..and not do anything about it either. And when people turn to crime, they attack those in the same economic position as them because they're scared of those in power who voted to put them in this position.

No surprise. UK is neoliberal, global capitalist. Just like the United States, there is massive inequality as global capitalism only benefits a few elites. Britain has always been a class based society. And we inherited many aspects of the British economy; we speak English, we were settled by the English. Really everywhere anglo-saxon has spread has been based on lots of inequality and a wealth gap, plus capitalism

chaise0009 They only have control if the masses give them permission to do so. Do you see multi-million mass protests against inhumane sanctions that'll drive people out of their countries for employment, food, medicine? Or against illegal invasions, occupations and war that'll drive people out of their countries to get away from the bombs and Western-backed terrorist groups? Or against government-funded corporations like Integrity Initiative who employ mainstream journalists around the world to smear good people with false accusations and to coordinate international public opinion? Or boycott companies that don't pay taxes to our country, that choose to move valuable manufacturing jobs overseas, that poison foreign rivers and deforest land that'll drive people out because their homeland is becoming inhabitable for humans, animals and trees? You can complain to whoever you want but people are conditioned to entertain themselves to death as if they're babies than deal with reality. "It's too depressing!" "But I NEED to watch a TV show" "Its too cold" "It sounds difficult" Boo-bloody-hoo. "Name-calling" "immigrant-bashing" "name-calling" "name-calling".

@@t814 - chaise0009 thinks he has it figured out. Like many he blames 'the joos' like they had a meeting and made a plan for world domination or some bollocks 'Dave on Facebook' clued him in on. Maybe he doesn't understand, the only 'tribe' out there are called 'shareholders' and they didn't have a nefarious plan either, it's all just the result of the system/the markets/govt/lobby groups (there to legally bribe the political decision makers who need them to pay for their next crazily expensive re election campaign and funded by the likes of the Koch Bros) and how it all interacts. The 'system' is eminently logical but it has no conscience, it behaves like a sociopath because that is the logic of it and THAT is the real 'deep state' not any single group you can point to, beyond 'the super rich' who themselves become sociopathic the further removed they become from 'real life/ordinary people'. Oh, and the mass protests your looking for might well be starting now, in France, lets hope so eh? I'm off out to buy a yellow hi vis gilet, anyone care to join me?

How can you work full time when a lot of employers will only employ part time staff because it's cheaper for the employer and it's the employees who suffer. The disconnect is money. Those who have never had to go without food and money, and have always been employed in high paying jobs or born into money will never truly understand what living in poverty is. I was really happy when I got a part time job because then I didn't have to deal with the stress of dealing with the job centre staff threatening sanctions. I have bipolar disorder and as universal credit has rolled out in my area of the UK I am scared of becoming ill again with the same crap of being threatened with sanctions again for not finding a second job as my employer won't increase my hours to full time on a permanent basis. To top it all I was told I can't get pips either but the person who assessed me wrote on my assessment report " Probability of having bipolar relapse after 3 years." How the hell would she know. With all the bloody stress the Universal Credit crap is causing I can relapse at any time before 3 years! I don't have photo identification, have trouble remembering passwords, get easily confused with filling in forms and even more so with doing it on line. Every single day is a struggle to keep going. Someone at work the other day said they wanted to die because they can't get gender reassignment surgery for at least another year. All I could think of at the time was, " Shut the fuck up, I feel like that every single day." But I ended up telling her that she has everything to live for as she was lucky to have a roof over her head, money in her pocket and she is living with her parents. I even said it with a smile on my face. I am so scared right now that I will become homeless and get ill again and do something really stupid. I've had enough of everything and just want to go to sleep and stay asleep as dreamland is better than the real world. I hate what the world has become. It's all greed, consumerism and the elitists of this world that think that people should do as they are told, work until you drop and be a part of the system. I just wish I could just disappear off the grid instead of being like all the sheeple. The world we live in is stupid.

Hi Lynn :1) just to give due where it's due. On Universal Credit many do quality for an advance payment. My exact case I signed on 17th Dec 2018 was told my first payment would be made 16th Jan 2018. I was then given an advance on 18th Dec 2018 for £317. Which was an interest free loan payable back £20 per month. Alot needs to be worked out with Universal Credit but more important is Conservative attitudes to Poverty and HumanRights regarding assistance in Living.

What do you expect when letting in millions of immigrants from the third world? Society to maintain it's dignity? It's done on purpose to lower the cost of production for big industries who want the cheap labor and also by the Jews in charge who want a fragmented society because it's easier to dominate and creates "multicultural" countries that are then devoid of an ethnic identity which gives them leverage to argue for globalism/world government whether it be de facto or not.
