Tony, did you know that Ken was number one in the pop charts in 1965, above The Rolling Stones, Sonny and Cher, Bob Dylan, the Byrds and THE BEATLES. His single Tears sold over a million copies. In the WHOLE of the sixties it was the 3rd best selling single, topped only by the Beatles. Both acts from Liverpool of course.

When Ken said to the audience "It won't get you out early " it was because he just enjoyed himself so much he hosted kept going .Coming out of the theatre well after 11pm was the norm ,he once did a long run at the Opera House Manchester and every night at 10.30 the manager Tommy Appleby was tapping his watch in the wings try to get him to finish .At the end of the run Ken presented him with a Rolex .

Hey🐿️Ken Dodd may seem dated to some but personally mate I love these little journeys you take down memory lane from when entertainment was wholesome, I loved this guy when I was a kid, he looked so weird but he was a great entertainer that had notoriously long shows that would have people missing cabs etc because he just didn't seem to be able to do a 1 1/2-2hr set. An absolute legend like you buddy😘🤣🤣 cheers ✌️🍻

Sir Ken live shows were notorious for being around five or more hours long, and no support act, my late friend worked with him a few times as his musical director, and said he was more worn out doing a few shows with Sir Ken than doing a whole tour with Dan
@bigglesace1626 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I thought people were exaggerating but I saw Ken at High Wycombe a few years ago, he was a good age then, and it really was that long. I must admit that it got to the stage after about 5 hours, that I was hoping it would end. He was hilarious and never stopped, unbelievable talent.

Doddy frequently referenced fellow comics - mostly in tribute to the old guard but for comics of his generation it was just banter. His interaction with Irish comic Frank Carson on his Audience with Doddy 1994 is a good example. He also paid a tribute to a legendary dirty jokes comedian referring to the nearby "Bernard Manning memorial Sewage Works" in one of his gags.

He was brilliant, class singer including opera and his shows were value, saw him a few times and wouldn’t leave the stage with jokes about landladies everywhere locking the doors as he was going on for hours. His joke books which he made his wife promise to destroy after his death are heading to a museum as she didn’t have the heart to destroy them

It was on the news recently that Ken had said once he was gone that his thousands of hand written note books containing jokes he kept should be burned. Although his wife Anne has saved them and is now putting a number of them on public display for the first time. A selection of notebooks feature in an exhibition alongside memorabilia like Sir Ken's famous Diddymen puppets and tickling sticks in his home city at the Museum of Liverpool.

She was obviously as greedy as Ken was
@susanashcroft2674 Жыл бұрын
@@philjones45 I suppose we could look at it from all angles Phil. Lots of comedians/entertainers leave behind things, Bob Monkhouse left his notebooks (once stolen but found) and videos lots of TV shows which some have been known to have been lost by TV companies. Lenny Henry's debut on new Faces was an example, lost until discovered Bob had recorded it. Ventriloquists, magicians and co leave behind their 'dummies'. props etc. Maybe in cases there might be an element of greed, hardship from those left behind to profit from things, but all that history of an entertainer shapes our history in respect of social times, eras etc. Anyway all the best.

A maisonette is s two up two down, detached or semi-detached. A good programmers was around in the 70s should be able to catch it on Yt drama not comedy, is (when the boat come in). Based in 1920 Yorkshire when the soldiers came home from the war really good dialect from that neck of the woods. Really strong acting.

I always thought that in the UK a maisonette was an upstairs flat that had its own, literally, outside staircase. Usually purpose built and not a terraced house or similar that's been converted.

Please take a look at Nina Conti Tony, she takes the art of ventriloquism to another level, some of her act question the sanity of the whole art form..Technically she's very good and her scripts are brilliant. Ken was great fun here. In real life Ken was a VERY serious gentleman. A friend of mine once interviewed him just before going on stage, apparently he drank half a bottle of scotch before going on stage. He had a serious drink problem.
