I recorded part of this on audio cassette on the Monday evening it was originally broadcast in 1982, (I think), and listened to it many times to the point where I knew it off-by-heart for a number of years after. Having looked it up on the ol' KZbin, years later, I remembered every single word as though I'd only listened to it yesterday. It's all based on the popular music programme that ran for many years on the BBC called, 'Top of the Pops.' Hence the titles being that which were used at the time. Probably best not mention the presenter of the show they were emulating between songs. Anyhow, the, 'acts', were all of pop groups who were prominent at the time. Namely, 'Bad Manners', (with the eponymous, 'Buster Blood vessel', being parodied as, 'Bad Habits', and, 'Buster Gut.' Then, there's Chas & Dave, who were a very popular duo based out of the east end of London. The last act is based on Adam & The Ants. Another popular band at the time.

It takes the fun off things knowing that the DJ they impersonate in between songs was later to be revealed as the most prolific child abuser on TV in the 70s & 80s. Some accurate parodies of the singers though. Buster Bloodvessel of "Bad Manners" was similar to Ronnie B's portrayal and Chas & Dave did a real song called "Rabbit", which was the inspiration for the Two Ronnies here. I'm not sure Ronnie C's "Adam Ant" was that convincing but he always put the effort in.

"Bad Habits" is a parody of Bad Manners a UK Ska/Reggae band of the time, their lead singer was called Buster Bloodvessel, and as you'd probably expect Ronnie B nailed his mannerisms. Check out Lip Up Fatty by Bad Manners to see just how well he got him down. The UK has a pretty rich history with Ska, Reggae and other West Indian/Carribbean musical styles due to a lot of immigration from those territories historically. A lot of white working class people could relate to the people and their music and so acts like Bad Manners, The Specials, The Beat, and probably most famously, Madness furthered the popularity of the music even more. The music also resonated with the Punk/Skinhead scene, so the idea of skinheads being racist was actually not the case in every instance, a lot were also ardent supporters of racial diversity as a result of the cultural similarities they found through music. A similar thing happened with Chuck Berry in the 50's (I think) - in a very real sense music did a lot to help combat racism throughout history in this country.

5:35 - Perfect Chas 'n' Dave parody - In reality, they were 2 cockney blokes who sang the sort of jokey communal sing-along songs that, apparently, were sung in the pubs of the East End of London (a lot of pubs had pianos back in the day). I saw them once, at Knebworth in 1979, as one of the support acts for the headliners, Led Zeppelin. Bit of a contrast - a bloke with a piano and a bloke with a guitar and then the band that, at the time, were in The Guinness Book Of Records as the loudest band on the planet! Top Of The Pops was a weekly TV show showcasing the Top 20 singles charts. Good memories of the original (we didn't know that Jimmy Saville was anything more than a tracksuit wearing, cigar smoking children's TV presenter at the time, not the sick paedophile he turned out to be).

@@j.dmetalhead7517 I can't say I don't get similar thoughts, but I can separate this from the the reality that was Savile. Lets face it, we are likely of similar age and have probably attempted the same impersonation ourselves before we knew?

Hi fella I hope you're good. Yeah as others have said, not your fault at all- I love smiling along with you watching these clips but the guy they were parodying in the blue tracksuits wasn't a good person to say the least. Take care and all the best
