My 2018 MT DPS 1000 is my first SXS and I've really enjoyed it. Not a single issue since new and it's perfect for two tracks and off trail exploring. I rarely use the DIFF LOCK feature in normal driving except steep hills or mud. Being 50" wide is handy here in MI, and I have no interest in getting something wider. The rear springs are very stiff, probably to maintain ground clearance in rough/rocky areas. All in all she's a keeper.

I'm in Wisconsin now but have recently retired and plan to spend winters in South Arizona. Would love to get together with others for rides depending on distance. I'll also be in Moab late April for a week for our first real riding since I bought mine in October. Should be a blast and I can't wait. I've also been in sport mode since I got it and never really thought about the eco mode. Now that I see how you changed that i'll try that and see if I can switch. Thanks again for the great info video.

I wanted the Maverick Trail, but where I am they are sold out with the next delivery date in late August and no guarantee they will have enough. So I ordered the RZR Trail Ultimate because Polaris was willing to do pre-orders and the delivery date is a lot sooner. It does have the ability to unlock the rear differential which I remembered you mentioning in this video and one of your earliest videos. Love your videos and look forward to seeing more.

I appreciate that, Thank You ! The new RZR Trail Ultimate looks like an amazing machine ! Congratulations ! We got lucky I think when we ordered Jr's machine back in January. It only took about a month to get. It did show up with the wrong doors on it though 🤣 seriously, black doors on a camo machine 🤣, but the dealer took care of it. I don't blame you for not waiting, and I think you will be very happy with the RZR. And yes, the unlocking rear diff is huge for me. Im hoping that Can Am brings it back at some point.

Excellent video - a question I have, does your 2018 have a "Lag/Delay/" type scenario when STARTING ? Mine has had that low/dead battery feel and hesitation when turning the key from day one. Until today unfortunately, it has always started. Looks like I need to tear down into the Battery and possibly Starter/Connections ?? I noticed in video the new machine appears to turn over instantaneously... THANK YOU for any feedback

Very comprehensive video. I'm glad they put more information on the digital cluster for 21. I hate tiny chintzy clusters that many atv companies are putting on their machines these days. I think it's time the government mandates that side by side makers have metal behind the front wheels and floorboards for protection. I've heard of far too many people having large sticks/branches coming through the footwell, and floor boards and injuring people. In fact it happened to a friend of mine just this weekend on his Polaris Ranger. A 2" diameter branch came up through the floorboard on the passenger side where his son was sitting. Luckily no one got hurt.

Hi, great video. I have a question about the low fuel light with one bar on the gauge. When the light comes on I went to put gas in it only took 6.5 gallons which means that there is about 3.5 gallons still in the machine with the light on. Do experience this with your machines?
@MyATVlife2 жыл бұрын
I have always had that problem, and everyone I know has that problem. The fuel gauge is notoriously inaccurate. It mostly (seems) to have to do with the shape of the fuel tank. It's kind of a triangle. The bottom "half" is bigger than the top "half". I've been over 130 miles on a tank of fuel. Fuel light on and nothing reading on the gauge and still had a couple of gallons in it. So I know I can easily do 130 miles on a tank (done that twice) and I usually carry a few gallons of extra fuel with me too, so I don't really rely on the gauge anymore. My trip meter is my fuel gauge. 👍

Factory aluminum wheels with 27x9-12 Tusk Terrabite tires. Mirrors are kind of a mixed bag. The mirrors themselves are Seizmik Pursuit while the mounts are from some Can Am mirrors. Great Video Jason, riding with your family is the best experience ever. I do have one question since you have multi years of the trail. Is the skid plates the same in thickness and composite. On my 2020 I’ve smacked it hard and thought I drove a spike into it, but mine is barely scratched.
@MyATVlife3 жыл бұрын
They look and feel the same to me. 🤷🏻♂️ Seems like the luck more than anything else. I have hit mine HARD several times. I've heard sounds coming from underneath that made me cringe, but my skid is still intact, no cracks (other than my dead pedal). Others have cracked and broken theirs doing much less than me, so I don't know...
@TheRJHawkins3 жыл бұрын
@@MyATVlife I have heard some noises that sounded bad but on inspection I couldn’t find anything that would indicate a break or crack. That’s exactly why I asked the question, our experiences seem to be the same. ( no cracks or stick damage for me yet). A lot of people have had some kind of failure on the skid plate. I’ve found the skid plate adequate but have yet experienced the failure so many people have experienced. I was wondering, hoping that BRP upgraded the plate on the 2020 and newer models, thinking this would explain my experience. Thank you for looking.

Important question about the 2018 rear diff. The Polaris Turf and Honda Pioneer when unlocked only power the right rear wheel like a go cart. When unlocked is this 2018 a true open diff that powers both wheels? I'm sure you know this but to check, jack up the rear and turn a tire, if the other tire rotates in the opposite direction it's an open diff. TY.

Open diff. Yup. 👍 when unlocked power will shift from side to side.

How are the belts? Do you have belt maintenance? Have you had to replace the belt yet on your 18? Thanks

I replaced my belt at about 3500 miles. The original belt still looked fine and probably would have lasted a lot longer. I now keep the stock belt as a spare. Up to that point I had never even taken the belt cover off. I know lots of people that take their cover off and blow out the clutches, but I didn't even do that.
@majerstud3 жыл бұрын
According to the "build your own" on the Can-Am website, the 2021 Trail can be ordered with the Smart-Lok package (at significant expense). Perhaps that's the reason they did away with the unlocking differential? They want you to pay for the upgrade!

I'm debating between the Maverick Trail and Honda Pioneer 700. Any thoughts?
@MyATVlife3 жыл бұрын
Well, for me the Pioneer wouldn't work because it's over 50 inches wide. But if you live and ride in an area without 50 inch trails that won't be an issue. I have no experience with the Pioneer so I can only go off of what others have said. People I know that have used both always say the Can Am is more comfortable and a smoother ride, and a lot more power. But with the Honda you get simplicity and proven reliability. I've always admired Honda, but they've always felt underpowered to me. Ultimately you'll just have to drive both and see which one feels better to you. 👍

I tell everyone, if you don't NEED a 50 inch machine don't buy one. Wider machines are much more stable, they ride better, have better articulation, everything. If you don't have 50 inch trails to deal with in your area, but the Sport for sure. They'll all tip over if you push them beyond their limits, but the Sport you can push a little harder. 👍

Occasionally yes, I come up to a tight section and have to do a three point turn, but it's rare. The other 99% of the time it's nice having the extra room in the cab and having the comfortable ride that you get from the longer wheelbase. The pros definitely outweigh the cons.

@@MyATVlife What are your thoughts on the shock lift kit and the hub spacers for extra width? It would be nice to have a few more inches of clearance, but these 50" jobs seem rather sketchy on angles. We have rolled both of our over on their sides so adding height makes me a bit nervous.
@MyATVlife3 жыл бұрын
Most people I know that put a bracket style lift didn't really like it. Makes it ride really stiff. That's all subjective I suppose. Some people are ok with the trade off of clearance vs ride quality. I'm personally not a fan of wheel spacers, but a lot of guys do run them. Maybe best might just be a wheel with more offset (5+2 or 4+3) and a larger tire (28 or 29). Would get you added width plus a bit more ground clearance without sacrificing ride quality as much... just a thought.
